The Field Negro news watch.

Here are some of my takes on a few of the most relevant news stories right now.

I will start with the war in Iran. Mr. Trump announced last night that the Americans and Iranians are on the verge of agreeing to a truce to end the war. This is a "really big deal" says Dear Leader. So what are the terms of the deal? Well field hands, like everything else in life, the devil is in the details.

So it seems that the Iranians will allow ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, and they will of course charge a fee. Or, a toll. Whatever you want to call it, the bottom line is that the Iranians will now be making a lot more money by controlling this narrow strip of water than they did before. Also, and here is the big one, and this seems to be the sticking point with all of this: The Iranians will not be handing over their highly enriched uranium. Which means that they would still have the ability to produce a nuclear weapon. So Trump's war of distraction got us nothing. Zilch. Nada. In fact, it made the Iranians objectively more powerful. The deal Trump is dying to sign to get an off ramp from this fiasco, is actually worse than the one Obama brokered in 2015, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).  America, and I am serious when I ask you this. Why did you elect this man? Twice!

In other news, I see where Jaxson Dart, the quarterback of the New York Giants, introduced Trump at a rally in New York a couple of days ago. (Shocker! A kid from Utah who played at Ole Miss, supporting MAGA)  No biggie, he is entitled to his freedom of speech. Besides,  I already hate the Giants, almost as much as I do the Cowgals. As a die hard Birds fan who bleeds green, I can only hope that the Trump sports jinx continues, and that Big Blue gets their asses kicked in a ton of games this year.

I do think it's funny, though, how conservative commentators were quick to tell athletes to just shut up and play sports when they openly supported politicians like Obama. Now that one of their own is supporting Trump, it's crickets.  I am not sure who advises Dart, but next time it might be important for them to tell their client how to read the room.

Speaking of athletes in the SEC. Lane Kiffin , newly minted head football coach at Louisiana State University (LSU), recently posted in a story about the racism in Oxford, Mississippi, or lack of diversity in that city, and not surprisingly, it has the Ole Miss fans up in arms.  They claim that Baton Rouge, Louisiana is just as racist, and that the LSU Tigers were actually named after a Confederate military regiment.  All facts.

To me, the entire debate is kind of funny. It's like Carl Lewis and Usain Bolt fans debating over who was a better sprinter.

I also see in the news that the NAACP is finally wising up and trying to get some of these three. four, and five star athletes (playing for state schools who would want to take us back to the forties and fifties, and prevent black votes from having the power  that they should at the ballot box) to reconsider their choices and consider playing for schools in states with a more progressive record when it comes to minority voting rights.

Young man, you will get just as much NIL money, and  date just as much pretty girls at USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Notre Dame, and Penn State, to name a few. Say no to Ole Miss, Texas, Alabama, Louisiana,  Tennessee, Arkansas...you get the picture. Trust me, they need you a lot more than you need them. Make a statement and do your ancestors a solid and spurn those schools. Just a few years ago they wouldn't let you near their campus or consider having you as a student or student athlete in their midst. Now they want to use you to raise their state's profile and allow them to push out their chest and brag about what a great [insert sport here] team they have.

Finally, it looks like the 1.8 billion dollar grift that Trump and his cronies was trying to pull on the American people is officially on life support. The fact that it got this far and MAGA was actually onboard with it tells you all you need to know about where we are as a country.  Imagine suing yourself for 10 billion dollars, and then settling with yourself for 1.8 billion, with the funds being paid for by tax payers who you are supposed to be serving. That is a hall of fame level of corruption that only Donald Trump and his MAGA base could pull off.  And it's still not over yet, with the help of his personal attorney turned Attorney General, he is still going to give it the old college try.

Wait, I know I said finally, but there is one more bit of news. Last night some insane person tried to shoot up the White house and the Secret Service shot and killed him. Sorry, I take that back. In the age of Trump this isn't news anymore. It's more like just another distraction.

Carry on.

Enjoy your Memorial Day.

I hope the deal that Iran makes with Trump does not include them trying to collect tolls. If it does, then the Iranians are dumb, as this will just be a provocation that leads to the next Iran war. Regardless, Trump was never going to obtain a win of any kibd, since the war was launched on the false premise that if we dropped a few bombs, Iran’s government would collapse. Netanyahu sold Trump a ridiculous fantasy that was always going to end in tears.

Will black athletes entirely boycott Southern universities? My guess is no. Because there won’t be enough slots for them all to play at non-Southern schools, so for many of them, this boycott would mean forgoing the opportunity to play college ball at all and losing a shot at the pros. Maybe it will mean that Southern schools will end up stuck with the lower-tier players, as the players with more choices will avoid the South? Time will tell.

As for the stolen cash that Trump wants to hand out to thugs (excuse me: “victims of weaponized prosecutions”) as a reward for supporting him, I sincerely hope that the courts are not so degraded that they would not shoot this down.

The most disturbing part about Trump’s decision to engage in such politically toxic, naked corruption indicates that Trump is betting everything on his ability to completely dismantle democracy, since he clearly does

Oops, got cut off. The last part I meant to say:

The most disturbing part about Trump’s decision to engage in such politically toxic, naked corruption is that it indicates that Trump is betting everything on his ability to completely dismantle democracy, since he obviously gives zero f*cks what the voters think.

Congresscritters were not supposed to be able to cash in on this windfall, but Blanche met behind closed doors with only magats and told them if their phone records were seized by the FBI they could get free money.

“Congresscritters were not supposed to be able to cash in on this windfall …”

I’m guessing that’s not going to make this go down any easier. Republican politicians know how sleazy this looks, even to their own brainwashed base voters. They are not happy, but Trump doesn’t care.

So if you bought one of those Fergus Phones, your personal information is out there for the taking, and apparently there were 30K preorders, not 600K like they have been saying.

The Iran deal was always going to suck in comparison to the deal that competent diplomats took 20 months to hammer out.
Witkoff and Kushner are not diplomats, and have massive financial conflicts of interest in the gulf region.

The congresscritters whose phone records were accessed by Jack Smith's investigation were probably not the ones Fergus needs to worry about defecting, and wasn't there already gonna be a payout to them?
Oh that's right, they repealed that payout because it was too corrupt...

A string of recent unfavorable polls has led to President Donald Trump notching his lowest-ever job disapproval rating in one top aggregator’s average.

According to RealClearPolitics, which averages all major polls, Trump’s disapproval rating now sits at 58.3 percent. His previous low as president, in the RealClearPolitics average, was 57.6 percent — a number he reached shortly after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

“The Trump administration issued the directive stopping individuals at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases from communicating with the WHO.”

We're not really harder to reach, we're just less susceptible to the low-grade bullshit they like to base their campaigns on:

“America’s fastest-growing religious group is also one of the hardest — and costliest — to reach: the ‘nones,’” Axios reports.

“Religiously unaffiliated Americans now make up a large and growing share of the electorate. But without church-based networks, they’re significantly more expensive for campaigns to reach and mobilize.”

A woman in Trinidad, Texas has filed a lawsuit over being jailed for a Facebook post she did about the quality of the water there.
Town officials admitted they had ongoing issues with water quality, but denied that anyone had been hospitalized over it, although there were multiple claims to the contrary by people from the town.
They jailed her for "spreading a false alarm" even though the substance of her post has been largely corroborated.
No word as to whether the town, which claims the upgrades to the drinking water would be very expensive, accepted any of the $50 billion the Biden infrastructure bill appropriated for water and sewer improvements.

RIP Sonny Rollins. I knew and played a few times with Prince Lasha, who was friends with Sonny. I used to have a cassette of a jam session between Prince Lasha, Charnette Moffett and Sonny Rollins that was recorded at a piano player I know's house when Sonny was visiting the West Coast. I lost it with the rest of my music collection in 2001.

Hi Field. To answer your question...Let's not forget that they elected "that other guy" twice also. But then during term #2 the stock market came tumbling down and that''s when supremacy was put on temporary hold just long enough to pray for and receive a "Black Messiah" to get them out of the trouble they had gotten themselves into. And then after the "Black Messiah" cleaned up their mess they went right back to "business as usual."
America has very short term memory so as long as the powerstructure can keep them believing that the poorest among them are their enemies by using smoke screens, dog whistles and diversions...they will never see or believe the obvious. For anyone who is familiar with American History...what is going on is just more of the same tactics that have always been used.

Killing Citizens United at the state level:

"S.B. 2471—a bill under which Hawaii would no longer grant artificial entities, including corporations, the power to spend in Hawaii’s politics—has passed both chambers with overwhelming bipartisan support. It is in conference committee now, one step away from Gov. Josh Green’s (D) desk."

"The bill redefines the powers Hawaii grants to the corporations that operate within the state. It does not regulate what corporations say. It does not regulate what they spend. It defines what powers they have in the first place—and the powers Hawaii grants would no longer include the power to spend in Hawaii’s politics."
