Colonel General of Hussars 1804

I am sitting here looking at a large collection of military postcards which arrived today. There are around 80 sets of Rene North Paint Your Own Cards, unopened in their original envelopes, around ten unopened packets of Charles Stadden and others, along with some loose cards from the Imperial War Museum and other series.

If anyone has an FN 358, General Andoche Junot in his uniform as the Colonel General of Hussars, ready to paint this card may provide an additional reference to the Hinton Hunt painting instructions posted here.

I will add this image to that post as well. Blogger is messing up the format of this post - I apologise for this and will try to fix it later

Prussian Command

Some recently completed Prussian command figures for the Prussian contingent. I have some more ADCs and some David Clayton castings of Landwehr Lancers still to paint up. The figures here are all David Clayton castings. L to R PN 65 Prussian ADC; PN 60 Blucher; PN 61 Gneisenau; and for variety an RN 85 One Piece Casting Russian General, painted as Prussian, to add variety to the other Prussian OPC generals I already have.

Bessieres and Soult transposed

I have been reminded that the pictures of figures Bessieres (FN 353) and Soult (FN 357) had been transposed. I have now (finally) corrected this, although the illustration for Soult is still captioned Bessieres on the photograph. I will correct this when I am able to find the original photograph to repost.

Wellington and Staff at Hougoumont - Peter Gilder

Charles Grant wrote a long running series, the Napoleonic Wargame, in Military Modelling magazine from March 1971 to April 1973. This later became the basis for his book Napoleonic Wargames, also published by MAP, in 1974. The magazine series was illustrated by some (pretty small) photographs, often of Peter Gilder's work.

Identification notes #1

This figure illustrates why I am trying to use unpainted figures where possible on the blog for identification purposes.
It has lain unidentified in my collection for some time, until just now when John has pointed out it is FN 361 General Nansouty.

The figure has been very nicely painted, but on close inspection his blue general's coat and red sash has been painted over the figure's cuirass.

An unpainted figure would have been much more easily identifiable.

The horse is interesting too. The saddlery etc has been painted on to what seems possibly to be a Minifigs 20mm or even a Lamming (old style) horse.

It is quite a common feeling to realise you have had that figure you have been looking for for years without realising it...

Thanks to John for his expertise.

FN 367 Napoleon and his Marshals, Personality Figures: General Cambronne on foot

FN 362 Napoleon and his Marshals, Personality Figures: General Baraguay d'Hilliers

FN 361 Napoleon and his Marshals, Personality Figures: General Nansouty

The second picture of this figure has been very nicely painted, but in a way which disguises its identity as the personality figure for Nansouty. The blue general's coat and red sash have been painted over the cuirass which formed part of the Guirassier General figure's dress.

FN 360 Napoleon and his Marshals, Personality Figures: General Dorsenne

FN 359 Napoleon and his Marshals, Personality Figures: General Lasalle

FN 358 Napoleon and his Marshals, Personality Figures: General Junot

FN 357 Napoleon and his Marshals, Personality Figures: Marshal Soult

This figure was transposed with that for Bessieres. When I can find the original photo I will remove or correct the caption - this figure is, however, Soult.

FN 356 Napoleon and his Marshals, Personality Figures: Marshal Massena

FN 355 Napoleon and his Marshals, Personality Figures: Marshal Davout

FN 354 Napoleon and his Marshals, Personality Figures: Marshal Ney
