Lazy Daisy
Top: Dorothy Perkins
Cardigan: Ice Knitwear
Skirt: Manque
Boots: Duo
Here's how lazy I am: I live over the river from the Sophisticate (it's about a seven minute walk) and sometimes I'll stay over at his place, especially on weekends, because it's in the city and there's something really delicious about waking up to the sound of general hubbub under your window going out onto the balcony and thinking "I'm standing in the middle of the city and I'M IN MY PYJAMAS" (at least until someone looks up and spots you and you have to scurry back inside).
This weekend both my visiting Queensland friend and I ended up staying with The Sophisticate, and instead of going home (a fifteen minute round trip) to get a change of clothes... I bought one.
The cardigan was super cheap (two for $30) from one of those el cheapo clothes shops where nothing seems to fit over my generous bosoms but I loved the anchor print and figured I could wear it unbuttoned anyway. The skirt (by local Melbourne label Manque) was an impulse buy bought from Cat's Meow. Manque is a label that has previously escaped my notice, but in an odd little coincidence when I got home from my impromptu shopping trip I had an email from reader Sassydrcil suggesting I check them out. I didn't realise it was the same label until I saw it on the website she linked me to - it's called the Librarian.
The top? It's actually the too-short Dorothy Perkins "dress" that I never got around to remixing, but had been wearing as a nightie.
Meanwhile, in other news - My Hairy Godmother's going on maternity leave in a matter of weeks, and since I couldn't see past me fringe I thought it wouldn't kill me to get a quick fringe trim at the local hairdressers.
TOO SHORT! You can see my eyebrows for the first time in a year! In the hairdresser's defence, I'd been wearing a cloche hat for most of the day and my hair was flattened when she trimmed, but now it's bounced back, and the result's more Bettie Page than Louise Brooks.
I've decided I have two choices... embrace the shorter length (for at least the amount of time it takes to grow back) or walk around like this for another month:

Impulsive
Blouse: Liz Jordan @ NoniB
Cardigan: Glassons
Skirt: Tartanista
Stockings: Ambra
Shoes: Naturaliser
Very quick one today, because The Sophisticate and I have got a visiting Queenslander to wine and dine tonight!
She and I had a very short shop today (during which time I nevertheless managed to impulse buy two items of clothing I definitely don't need) between two amazing and extended meals.
Poor thing is feeling a little shell-shocked at the cool weather down here, but I'm actually feeling a bit of spring in the air (thank goodness!) and my wandering eye is starting to look for spring and summer frocks.

Getting My Pantyhose in a Twist
Top: Jay Jays
Cardigan: City Chic
Skirt: Laura Ashley
Shoes: Naturaliser
Belt: City Chic
I snapped up this little denim skirt in the Laura Ashley sale last week for a meagre $29.95, which I'm pretty delighted with. It's a great shape and was also available in blue denim, so if you're on the hunt for a good denim skirt, check them out.
Meanwhile... I think I've finally found a pair of pantyhose that I can tolerate!
They're no-waisted, which means I don't have that waistband-hoiked-up-to-my-bra problem - they just sit flush against my skin wherever I want them to be. They're "fuller figure" so they're nice and roomy, aren't a struggle to wriggle on and don't give me that super-flattering muffin-top effect. They're a good colour and don't give an oompa-loompa tan to my white, white legs. And no crotch-creep. Hurrah!

Ruffles and a Rant
Blouse: Victoria's Secret
Cardigan: Glassons
Skirt: Love To Love You
Stockings: Ambra
Shoes: Naturaliser
I told you it wouldn't take me long to rectify the whole no-black-cardigan situation. This one from Glassons is pretty good, though I've found that it stretches out of shape pretty quickly. Glassons is one of those stores where I can just about... sometimes.... fit into their largest size. Which is sometimes (not always) a 16. It's frustrating when I'm loving a top or a dress in there, only to discover that it only goes to a 14. Why do stores do this? Barkins is the same... they go up to an 18. Sometimes. And never in the things I want.
At what point do the clothes manufacturers go "OK. So only our customers with this bust/waist/hip measurement and smaller are allowed to wear this item." Even my favourite UK store Dorothy Perkins is occasionally guilty of it, and I often hold them up as an example of what I'd like to see all clothing retailers should do (i.e. offer everything in sizes 6 to 22, rather than offering a separate - read dowdy - "plus" range).
The things that most bothers me is when the range that caters only for the smaller sizes is considered to be an exclusive premium range. Better quality fabrics, nicer cuts. There is nothing I hate more than feeling like retailers consider me to be a second class citizen because of my size. Don't bigger girls suffer enough indignity without being forced to forgo the silks, cashmeres and linens of high-end ranges for synthetics and jerseys?
