I'm still here... a Ruin and a grand overview of Oronegro

Well first things first I am appologizing for not being active recently. I have been up to my eyeballs with work and as soon as I clear just a little, my sister leaves minecraft on the computer and it just draws me in like a fly to a light... so yes clearly I have problems to sort out there but during this time I have got some work done.

Well I guess another thing to say is that if you were expecting a nice small post with a few pics I am sorry but this may just ruin your day. 17 pictures and a lot to say, so lets start it off with the RUIN!\

The Ruin is made from cork floor tiles salvaged from when we ripped up the floor in there. other materials include sticks, bamboo scewers, brown packing paper, card (various types), thin plywood, filler, wire mesh and kitchen towel (more paper). not the best built ruin I must say but for a first go its alright. the figure for scale is actually from Emmett (Winttrix) who was selling his old models. I bought a few figures, a helicopter and some Bren Carriers, which i am sending to Michael. Some of the figures were already painted with a few patches where they had been damaged, so my job was to patch them up and get them ready to go again.
I found the cork quite a nice material to work with. easy to cut and stick together.

examples of the way to get the ruin effect, breacking the cork by hand looks (left wall and front) more realistic IMHO than cutting (wall on the right)

I also decided to add some details, on the roof are some sand bags with some nasty spikes. it looks simple because it is, card wrapped in kitchen towel and some sticks. ok the painting is bad but i forgot about my colour blindness and assumed it would all look good in th end. (ps lines on wall to the left are the glue for sticking the tiles to the floor)

perhaps the best angle for viewing the ruin, the curtains are made from packing paper. nice and easy.

the ladder is very large compared to a figure but is more for show than to be 100% accurate.... its so you know there is a ladder (you can sometimes get a fig to stand on it also)
Now lets take a closer look at our friend here! he was the least damaged of the figures and the most painted... so a simple bit of nasty Tamiya primer and some paint to cover the metal that showed through and he was ready againt to see action! since I took these photo's (a while ago now) I have fixed up a buddy for this guy and almost completed some of my own figures from the Elhiems I got sent. All very nice figures I must say.

Special forces, Merc, rebel, PMC who knows this man could be any of these.

Remember most of this is Emmett's work, I just patched him up.

well there you have it. Emmett stopped posting pictures on his blogs last year so I am happy that I can show off just one more bit of his excellent work
Now onto the overview! these pictures are even older but still well worth a look! This is all of Modern Oronegro minus the city boards and the terrible little river boat I did ages ago... if you don't remember its the green one which I photographed with a rubber duck.

it is big! very big! and for some reason its not enough... perhaps its good I am going to university next year. that will limit how much I can do.

newer work stands by older work as we look over the National side

the lynx is there also, it was the newest part of the overview.

now to the rebel side. the Spetnaz and russian T-90A standing out against the rest of the rebel forces

rebel armour advances. this battle would A) not occur at any time except when everyone agreed to it and B) be a nightmare to be part of.
Now for some action and detail shots! first up we have some pictures of the aircraft of oronegro. then some shots of the chaos on the ground.

2 jets, 1 Spitfire and 2 helicotpers (sort of)

view along the rebel advance! I seem to have reversed the laws of stereotypical cold war style warfare by making the Russian's the blue team... well I guess that means I have to paint the US soldiers Red.

fighting back the UN Germans and other troops hold the left wing of the national army, in the distance the black angels unload and prepare for what must be the most chaotic fight in Oronegrean history.

and the view from the National right. they have the better position and armour but still this is not going to be an easy fight
Well thats all folks. hope your well and happy and I hope that I might post more frequently and visit more frequently but seeing how busy I am I cannot promise that. anyway have a good day/night everybody.

A modified spitfire and a sneak preview

well with all the stress of exams upon me I still find time to paint and glue, though photographs have not been on my to do list until today so only now am I able to show you the spitfire and a new item for a new era!

first up the spitfire, Oronegro is home to some very, very rich men who can afford to buy their own private armies. during the civil war many did, but even before there were a few who had access to a few vehicles and soldiers to force, I mean, help people to get to work. sadly for them the government chose to do little to stop them, this was one of the causes of the rebellion as oppressed workers were ignored by the government.
planes are expensive and jets-fighters are nearly impossible to buy if your not a billionaire. many oil or manufacturing giants therefore needed to settle for something cheaper that was also more effective in attacking a lone truck on the road or a small village. to this end spitfires and other aeroplanes from the old Oronegrean air force were quite useful. with a bit of a repaint and some black one way windows so that the pilots (quite often the rich men themselves) could not be seen, with some newer guns thrown in for good measure this once gracious and beloved aircraft became a sinister instrument of exploitation.
the plane gracefully moves though the sky the engines song hides the hideous purpose of the plane

blue crosses mark it out as a plane from one of Oronegro's corporate giants

a sight that all poor villagers fear as the plane roars over the houses

all the colours are acrylic with a wash and some PVA here and there

you can't see in but they can see out.

a look at the underside and the make shift base I made for it from some clear spure, plaster and a lid from a jar with some grass, rocks and bushes thrown in for good looks

over the wing at the table were I am working.

Now if you have been around the last few post and/or you have been looking at the other blogs you will have noticed that I have been contemplating doing some stuff based around Oronegro in the 18th century. Well the project is getting underway with the classic symbol of the era, the sailing ship. now if you read this post on the colonisation and expansion of Oronegro you will know that it was founded by a real mix of people and cultures and especially that there was a strong Arab influence in early Oronegro. this is reflected in this ship which is a small ship which is influenced by the shape of dhows and of European ships. I have made it out of card and a foam core like material with some paper and string thrown in for the sails and rigging, there is also some metal so super glue was in use. Now this is far from complete and the sails will not be black I am just painting them black like this so that the finished sail will have some nice shadow... I hope.
the foam core like material is perfect for this type of thing it cuts easily and shapes like a cloud

here is the shot that shows off that Arab features of the ship

sailing down the river news paper the ships captain spots a giant computer in the background where a blog post will be posted later that day :-D

a view at the captains shed, which has some stairs down below deck and the steering handle that turns the rudder (not then attached but it is now)

a Zvezda Numidian from their Carthaginian infantry set... he will get converted into a local tribesman at some point.

oh the guys seems a bit sea sick. I hope that the new coarse will not send the ship into some rocks.

the old and the much older together in a photo... another ship is planned for the building (same type hopefully)
well there you have it... soon I will have the ship done and then I can post the pics...However I need a crew! so here is just a little advert for a swap or trade. If you have this set... HäT Set 8098 British Marines and Sailors I would be very happy to organise a swap.  of coarse I could get the whole set myself but I think I only need 2 guns per ship and those would be the long barrelled ones.
if you have this I would like to trade/pay you for it :-D
Well there you go folks, I have my mathematics exam tomorrow, and Spanish on Tuesday. so have a nice week everyone... I hope I do.

thanks archduke for spotting the, um, mistype

time for take off.

well Oronegro would not be a modern nation without airpower so I created one for it. it is very small right now...one aircraft an old harrier jump jet. built in Oronegro intended for the Royal Navy however recent events have put it into service with the national forces. I would like to think that I have given it a roundel that has not been used by another nation but if it is please tell me... so here is the plane
commotion on the tarmac (wooden table) as the groundcrew prepare the jet for take off.

guards stand ready, even these safe bases can be attacked without warning

the plane is ready, lets clear the area and take to the skies

it flies into the sky, with a view of a giant building in the disance

there is the threat a giant cat... his name is montyzooma
well there you go. hope you all like this post. I have a euro-fighter typhoon somewhere in the house so maybe I can find it.
