He received his education at the Paris Conservatory under Boulanger and Obin. In 1887 he made his stage debut at the theatre of Nîmes as Eleazar in ‘’La Juive’’ of Halévy. He remained active in this house two years, till 1889 and then undertook guest performances in French stages and tours with traveling opera companies which led him among other things in 1889 to Athens.
