Our Home Makeover

When we first walked into our house, this is what we saw...

LOTS of tan walls, extremely nasty carpet, and it smelled like animal feces.
Pleasant, yes?

Check out THESE before pictures.

Luckily we were able to see the potential of this house, and the amazing price certainly didn't hurt.
The layout, location, size, and price of the place sold us immediately!
We had a thorough home inspection and meth test (to check on the smell)
and everything checked out without any extreme problems.

I wrote about the whole house-hunting experience HERE  and HERE.

We started working on the house the day we got the keys,
and spent the next several weeks working day and night.

And we did it!
Thanks to an immense amount of help from family and friends
we reached our goal in time for little Evan to join our family.

Here's a sneak peak....

Progress

Things are going well on the house renovations.
We're not even doing anything major,
but we definitely have our hands full for the next three weeks.

So far we've...
Cleaned every surface
Ripped out carpet and pad
Painted upstairs doors and trim
Cleaned out the front flower bed
Begun ripping out wood floors
Picked paint colors
Chosen new flooring and scheduled installation

We still need to...
Paint all walls and additional trim
Paint front door and trim
Pressure wash house and back fence
Clear back yard and lay sod
Replace back door
Wash all screens and windows
Paint stairwell/hallway ceiling
Replace stairwell light fixture
Replace master bedroom fan
Prepare sub floor for new floors
Move stuff out of storage
AND
Move in before baby decides to make his debut!

One thing is for sure...
WE HAVE THE BEST FAMILY AND FRIENDS!
We have been so blessed with many willing helping hands.
Painting begins!
"Ladies Night!"
New Flooring Choices (vinyl will be different)
Carpet Rip Out
Clean Flower Bed
Wood Floor Rip Out

Living Room Makeover

This makeover began several months ago,
and as much as I'd like to say "it's finished," that isn't entirely true.
Things are always changing around here.
I'm always moving pictures, pillows, and blankets around.
I'm always painting something here, and fixing something there.

But, I will say that I think we've reached a good resting place. . . for now.

This makeover has been a big learning experience for me.
I learned to sew piping on pillows.
I learned that you can find treasures at thrift stores.
I learned how to reupholster a wing chair.
I learned how to sew a button hole.
I learned not to rush into choosing fabric.
I learned that Ikea has really good, inexpensive picture frames (almost as cheap as a thrift store)
I learned that I am not decisive.
I learned that painting a wall a lighter shade of blue is totally worth it if it makes you happy.
I learned that you can still make things look nice even when you have a messy toddler.
I learned that my husband is really patient, and encouraging of my "hobbies."
I learned that when I want "help" from someone it mostly means I just want support.
I learned that I like others' opinions, but I don't need to rely on their opinions.
I learned that I have no one to please but me and my family.
I learned that having different textures creates depth and interest.
I learned that things don't always have to match.
I learned that redecorating doesn't have to be expensive.
I learned that I can create things if I put my mind to it.
I learned that I don't want a big home someday.
I reaffirmed that creating a beautiful home helps me feel peaceful, patient, and loving.

Most of all I learned that I
really. love. creating.

And now for the big reveal!

Drum roll please!
(and now most of you are saying "oh please")

Here she is before

And here she is after!

Finally, just because I always like to see
some good before and after comparisons...
