My Latest Favorite Things...

So much for that promise to blog more often! There just are not enough hours in a day for me to do everything that I want to do and everything I have to do. So I'm just dropping in for a quick post of what I've been up to lately and what has become some new favorite things to do...

Collaged Washi Tape!!! Yes, you heard that right - collaged washi tape! Now I'm sure I didn't invent this technique, but I honestly never saw anyone making washi tape this way either. I did a UStream video and posted the recording to my YouTube Channel if you'd like to see the process in action. First, I start with another of my favorite things lately -- scrape painted deli paper (techniques also included in same video)! So easy and fun to make and useful in so many projects. Its really nice to have a stash of this stuff laying around so that you can grab a piece whenever you need it. Now that I have it, I need it more than I thought I did! Here are some pics:

I also jumped in late (Mid-March!) to the Documented Life Project (DLP) with the Art to the 5th Group. Its a really fun project where you alter a planner of your choice, mine is the recommended Moleskine. You can learn more about the project and watch some videos at the Art5 website. Here are a few of my weekly layouts. As you can imagine I'm way behind on the weekly challenges, but I'll get there.

Notice the collaged washi tape in play here!!!

There's collaged washi tape all over this layout! LOVE!

My friend Kacie is getting married the end of June. Her wedding colors are yellow and grey, so I decided to make this as a little gift for her. We had a dinner at our place for 15 girls from work to come over and celebrate with a 'bridal dinner'. She's already had a couple showers, but we just wanted to get the work group together and I had this on the table for her as the centerpiece when she walked in. This is made on a canvas board using some of Finnebair's techniques and products, along with some of my Patti Tolley Parrish stencils, some hot glue, lots and lots of Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays (and a few bad words when at the last minute I dropped a paint brush on the groom's face and gave him a goutee!). That has since been fixed with a new pic added over my little boo-boo! I recorded the process on Ustream and uploaded it to YouTube, however, there were issues with Ustream that night and only the first and last 30 segments actually recorded. ;o(

I hope you enjoyed all the pics. Please subscribe to my YouTube and Ustream channels to keep up on my projects. I try to do a recording of any new process or project that I play with so everyone can watch it at their own pace. Another great place to keep up with everything Inky Obsessions is my FaceBook art page. I post everything I'm doing that's art related on my art FB page first.

My First Week as a Stencil Designer! Thank you!

Hi all!

I wanted to take a minute and express my sincere appreciation for everyone that placed an order for my new designs for Patti Tolley Parrish Stencils at www.iStencils.com. The launch was a complete success and exceeded my expectations thanks to all of you who continue to support me in my artistic adventure. Thank you doesn't seem sufficient. I am truly humbled.

I would love to see what you all are doing with my stencils. I wanted to extend an invitation for you to send me some pics of your work using my stencil designs to feature on my blog and FaceBook art page, Inky Obsessions. If you are interested, please leave me a message on this post and I'll give you my email address for the pics.

My latest project -- last summer our friend Jeff had me paint two large canvases for his townhouse he's decorating. Now he's asking me for three smaller pieces with similar colors. This is the first of three:

So fun to use my own stencil designs in my work now. Above is the Infinity stencil.

And this one is the Circle Infinity. I used Viva Decor Modeling Paste in Pearl White thru my stencils to get this look.

This is the second of the three requested pieces, but between you and me, I don't think Jeff will ever see this one hanging on his wall. I really love how it turned out. Funny how sometimes one particular piece just speaks to you. This one is it:

This is a collage and painted canvas. I've used several of my painted papers that you may recognize from previous videos, as well as one of Ellen Vargo's new stamps from PaperArtsy. Not surprisingly they are just as fabulous as she is! If you don't follow her blog, you should really check it out. She recently did her first demo videos for her gig as a guest designer for PaperArtsy, she's a natural.

These are a couple Instagrams I posted of close-ups with filters. Love!

So looks like this weekend will consist of making two more pieces for Jeff! (Shhhh -- don't tell him!)

Happy Arting!

'Tis the Season for Giving!

Hello out there in blogland! Looooong time since my last blog post, but I've been busy on YouTube, Ustream and my Inky Obsessions FaceBook page. Lots going on besides my usual schedule and a BIG announcement coming. Did I say...

BIG???

As with most BIG announcements, you have to wait until just the right time. We are almost there, just not quite, but please do stay tuned and trust me, as soon as I can spill the beans, you'll hear it shouted from the rooftops! BIG!!!

In the meantime, and in the spirit of giving, what's say we have a little giveaway? Cheri at iStencils has very generously agreed to offer two $50 iStencil Gift Certificates to my subscribers! If you follow iStencils on FaceBook you already know they've been running a 20% discount storewide. I'll plan to do a Ustream video and invite Cheri to join. I'll demo a bunch of my favorites of their 2,600+ designs -- YES -- 2,600+ designs. I'll advise the date and time of the Ustream very soon. For those of you who cannot stream, I'll be uploading the recording to YouTube as soon as the Ustream concludes. I'll randomly pick two lucky subscribers for the $50 gift certificates. Those I choose from will be subbies on YouTube and Ustream and follow my art FaceBook page Inky Obsessions. I feel that its the least I can do to pick from those of you who faithfully follow me everywhere. So if you're not yet following me everywhere, sign up soon so you don't lose your chance to win!

Here are a few pics of some of my recent projects.

This is a mixed media painted collage that I was working on during my latest Ustream. The video is available on Ustream and YouTube now. I added some final layer marks after the stream shut down. I like this one.

I was trying to channel Jane Davies while I was doing this one. She has such a free, loose, easy style that I thought it would be easier to replicate some of her techniques into my own projects. Don't let her ease fool you. She's just really, really good!

This one is a work in progress, but I really like the bright colors so far. Who knows how it will end up.

This is a canvas a friend asked me to make for her. She gave me an idea of the colors she wanted and free reign to take it any direction. Here's where I landed. She loves it. I used a couple Dyan Revealey tips with some Donna Downey thrown in with my hand and marks.

Stay tuned for the announcement of the Ustream for my iStencils $50 gift certificate giveaway! The best way to stay up to date with everything I'm doing is to follow me on my FaceBook art page, Inky Obsessions. That's the quickest and easiest way for me to reach the majority of people and I post everything I do on that page first. Hope you'll join me there too!

Enjoy the holiday season and I hope you all feel the warm spirit of giving all year!

Happy Arting,

Patti
