Highly Collectible

It's the 400th post on Chicken Nugget Lemon Tooty!  And in sticking with tradition, today I'm sharing just a few cards from our full-to-bursting Packs of Family Trading Cards.

"Family Trading Cards? What are those?" you might ask.  Years ago -- 7 or 8 years perhaps -- our family started making our own Trading Cards and swapping them amongst ourselves.  And we still do it to this day.

Here's how it works:  every so often, Dad cuts up paper into uniform rectangles and hands out 5 or 6 blank cards to each member of the family.  The cards can then be filled with anything.  Absolutely anything.  No rules.  All the completed cards get returned to Dad who shuffles them and randomly passes them back out.  And the trading begins!  It's fun and furious as everyone scrambles to wheel and deal for the day's favorites.  It gets quite competitive.

Everyone has their own pack of cards they've collected over the years, all of which by now contain hundreds upon hundreds of cards.  They are highly treasured.  And it's always fun to shuffle through the collections to see how everyone's drawing skills have developed over the years.

Here is a sampling of recent cards we've created:

Carded

It's the 300th post on Chicken Nugget Lemon Tooty!  That means it's time to crack open our Family Trading Card Packs again and share some favorites...

It's been a while since we last mentioned our "Family Trading Cards."  It's a fun family activity we try to do on a regular basis.  Dad cuts up rectangle cards and hands them out.  Each person can fill their cards with whatever they want.  The cards get handed back to Dad, shuffled, and redispersed.  Then the trading begins!  Fevered bartering goes on in an attempt to snag the day's favorites.  Each of us has our own pack filled with 4 to 5 years worth of collected cards.

And since the last time I shared Trading Card highlights, Elijah has joined in on the fun!

Packed

It's the 200th post on Chicken Nugget Lemon Tooty! In keeping with tradition, I'll take this centennial post to share more cards from our Family Trading Card Packs. And boy are the packs packed now! Dad had to make bigger cases for everyone -- the old ones were splitting at the seams. Here are a few favorite cards, collected over the years...

Save or Trade?

It's been a while since I've posted any Family Trading Cards, so... here are some more.  We have well over 400 cards currently in play, so the following are a mere sampling.  The ones I'm sharing today come primarily from the collections that Gracie and Isaac have saved.  Enjoy!

100th Post

You're supposed to celebrate your 100th posting, right?  Well this is it!  I thought in honor of post number 100, we'd share some more Family Trading Cards.  I pulled these ones from among the cards in the 2 packs that Mom and Lily have collected.  Keep in mind, some of these could have been made up to two years ago...

Trading Cards

Here's a fun family activity we've been doing for some time now. We make Family Trading Cards. At some point in time, Isaac became interested in the idea of collecting trading cards, and I suggested we make our own. The whole family's hooked.

Here's how it works.... Dad cuts paper into a bunch of card size squares and each family member gets five or six at a time and can fill them with Anything. When everyone's done, they get all mixed up and randomly handed back out. Then the trading begins! It's really fun to see what everybody has made and to try to get a hold of the day's favorites. After a bit, each person pulls their complete collections out to see if there's any past favorites that can convince so-and-so to part with a newly created treasure.

At first I thought it would be a one-time fun family activity. We didn't anticipate how fun it would be, or how competitive it can get. It's really odd how much everyone cares about their collection. My wife and I treasure our packs and get really intense about trying to score certain cards.

We do Family Trading Cards on a fairly ritualistic basis now. We started maybe a year or two ago, and our collections have grown to about 60 cards each. It's also a great way to remember how the kids used to draw when they were little and to see how they've progressed. The cards in this post are some favorites from Dad's collected pack.
