Joining in at Mrs4444 Friday Fragments
Much needed heavy rain at the moment, without the forecast storm.
Had some exciting news last night, my daughter let me know she had puchased tickets to take me to see Andre Rieu in Sydney next year.
I collected the book by Billy Graham, Nearing Home, yesterday. I am reading straight through it first, and will go back and study it later. It is a brilliant book for people of all ages, for compassionate family members who wish to understand the feelings of older people, a reminder for those nearing retirement to prepare for it, and consolation for the aged who are losing their strength.
Concerts yesterday and today. Barry was very touched by one gentleman that we have known for a while who is now bedridden. He clasped Barry's hands and cried when Barry was saying hello. I think Barry is questioning if he can carry on, seeing people growing weaker and passing on. We have commitments until the end of the year (and already some bookings for 2013), but Barry has asked me to turn down any new requests that might come in for this year.
For new readers we entertain at nursing homes and for seniors groups averaging about six times a month, under the banner Crumbs of Comfort. Here is link to our Facebook page. (I don't know if it works if you don't have FB). Basically Crumbs of Comfort means passing on some of the Comfort that we receive from Him, though one Activities Officer challenged me saying we pass on a lot more than 'Crumbs'.
Still raining...... many months since such good heavy rain.. Grateful that there is no wind, or storm.
Hugs and Blessings,
Jan

I must get that book on Billy Graham you have tweaked my interest. Thank you for performing at retirement homes. My parents are in one and it is an excuse to get dressed and out of bed.
How wonderful you have tickets for Andre Rieu. Of course I'm a bit biased as he is as Dutch as I am ;)
The Billy Graham book is on my list too. I've read his biography and that was awesome.
I can understand how hard it is to see people getting weaker and weaker. But that gentleman showed you exactly how much good your "Crumbs" do for them.
We went through a severe drought here this past summer. There is NOTHING as welcome as those rains when they again appear.
I bought Nearing Home for my parents-in-love earlier this year. They both enjoyed reading it. My father-in-love has been in a nursing home on respite this week - in our town. It's been lovely to be able to visit him regularly. I'm beginning to have a nurturing heart towards nursing homes and the care they give. The input of activities offices and volunteers (and family) must add so much joy to the days of the residents.
We visit nursing homes with our dog, Abby, and are blessed as much, if not more than the residents. They are so appreciative when we stop in to visit them. If it weren't for our sweet dog, we would never meet these people!
Oops, I forgot to mention, that book sounds very good. I'm going to look it up.
Several people are reading the Nearing Home book, it must be worth the read. I think you must have a large heart to visit nursing homes, they can bring tears to even the most callous of people.
It rains and rains ever here and the frogs are loud. I am grateful for that.
Thanks for the comment GB DB, but I cannot respond as I cannot see your posts or email you. I added you on Google+ but nothing opened.
Thanks everyone for comments and I try to visit everyone back, and if there is an email address when the comments come to my inbox I mostly am able to reply and find the "no reply" emails a bit frustrating.
