random thoughts of mine

I have these randoms thoughts, scenarios, play by plays, opinions of unusual things of pure nonsense float around my head through out the day, so I decided that instead of just letting them be a thought, I'm going to give them an extra moment of concentration and see how silly they all come out when I view them written up before me and not just floating strings of gray matter in my noggin.

I'll start with the Olympics. I've been watching bits and pieces here at there.  I miss the excitement I had for it when I was young. My mom always had it on, and I remember watching it after school or before bed and getting really into the intense moments and action.  You can't have figure skating without Scott Hamilton, what a guy. I don't remember his gold medal skate, (I'm not that old), but I know his voice and his token phrase while showing the replays "aaaaahhhhh, she/he fought so hard to hold on to that jump" I love it. classic olympic energy comes from Scott Hamilton's boyhood charm for ice skating, he makes it kind of not seem so wimpy of a sport for boys.

kind of...
oh, you know that look sold him the gold. And that unitard! wow!

but as I was watching all the lovely ladies, and glittery men, gracefully skate on their ice pond, I noticed how elegant and poised they all looked and their hair always is done up so nicely, even Johnny Weir knows how to accessorize,

I mean really, he has a thing for bling

so here is my random thought when the ice skating gets a little too hum drum for me.... Why can't the women's gymnastic team jazz up their hairstyles a bit?  I mean, there is a nice version of a slicked back pony, and then there is the gymnastic SLICKED back pony! for real, they should have a separate olympic event to see how many hair clips they can fit on one head! sheesh!

bonus points to whoever can tell me the total count of hair clips in this photo
I've given this some consideration and while the gymnasts sport ensues more upside down flips, their hair do's aren't put up to any harsher elements then when  ice skater spins and spins and spins and spins and spins and spins! I mean if that little Russian can turn into a twister without a hair falling out of place, and not one tacky clip in sight, then I think the gymnasts are just getting a little lazy.  For pete sake, even Jason Brown supported the slicked back pony, without any clips so I know it can be done!

And so I conclude my thoughts on the 2014 winter games. I think the gymnasts for the upcoming summer olympics could take a little more heart into putting their hair together. for all we know there could soon be a shortage of hair clips for us regular joes. We very well might not be able to see the next USA women's gymnastic team win gold because our hair will be in our eyes because we couldn't buy one little clip to hold it back. Unless, those clips are some sort of lucky charms...but that is fielding into a deeper thought process then even I want to get into!

hahah!

for lindsay, if you can blog I can too!

Remember that one time James applied to dental school all across the country? and we thought we were going to move to far off places and see new horizons and be all alone in the world especially if we landed in Kansas or something? Well, as luck and fate would have it, the far off places ended up just being Riverton utah, and any new horizons we see just change with the seasons, but we still ended up all alone in the world. Instead of us packing our bags, our cousins and friends shipped off all over the country instead! a topsy turvy world in deed.  So, now that we have lost just about everyone (not all, luckily) we loved seeing whenever we wished I suppose I could blog a little so you don't forget us. And perhaps I'll make the blog interesting enough that you will still want to hang out with us when you come back into town. Or even better, invite us out for a visit and a view of your new horizon!

where to begin.... where to recap... what to say to sound interesting...

The big guy in red is usually fun, we ran into him at the ward party.  George asked for a Buzz Lightyear, THE BIG ONE. (I hope his christmas wish comes true.)

this is the first year in three years that we have hung ornaments on the bottom branches of our tree, mostly because george hung them all there. Sadly, I'm a grinchy mom and moved them all up a little higher, (guess we know where george's anal gene comes from)

I bought a nativity set for the boys and thought it would be fun to have them unwrap it. I told George there was a present to unwrap under the tree and his response was, "oh, it's my Buzz Lightyear, THE BIG ONE" (I hope that christmas wish comes true) nope. just baby jesus, the real gift of the season....

We beat the snow and saw the temple square lights before the cold set in.

We decided a family photo would only enhance the Christmas spirit,

it didn't.  But we still have one jolly little elf,

there is our december so far, hope the gazillion snow storms don't stop our faraway family from coming home for a visit!

well.......

my attempts at blogging have all ended in drafts about christmas with the publish button never being pushed.  seeing as how we are now closer to christmas 2013 then we are to christmas 2012 I think it's time to give into the reality my numerous attempted posts are never going to see the light of the computer screen.

so, what do people post about? I feel my  bragging/sharing/creating/desire of updating has left me. Not that my blog was ever any of these things to begin with. But seriously, what did I once find blog worthy that has now gone missing.

I still have a funny kid named George,

and I'm pregnant which is a fact that is always obvious and unforgettable

james is still in dental school, doing gross things if you ask me

and summer has begun and we have had some moments of "fun in the sun"

and the rain

the harman's still dance

and we take trips to the zoo

but yet my poor blog never gets updated with anything new.

catch up

I left off with a post about august in the middle of September, so I'll start my summarization of the year in october, written within moments of the christmas season....

george and I went to disneyland for a few days with my family. sans james, he was learning how to give shots!

george was a cowboy for halloween

and hated every minute of it....

I should have had him be a fireman, live and learn. hindsight 20/20.

george turned 2 and got spoiled

he was also gifted with the first snow storm of the season

we gave thanks for our blessings, and pumpkin pie (george was thankful his favorite shirt was clean)

we hit up the zoo

hung up the chirstmas lights

finished our stockings after five years

and now, we'll wait for santa to come and a few other festive things in between.

for gpa harman...and anyone else who may still read this blog

Dear Grandpa, this post is for you.  I'll try and make it as fascinating as I can.

thanks to my awesome brother and sister in law, we get to see unique parts of the world! this time they led us to their new home in Hanford California! a bitsy little town about 30 minutes from fresno. It truly was an individual space in California, nothing like the trendy L.A or magical Anaheim. No, Hanford was a little bit of retro! and we had an awesome time!

our trip was centered around the biggest party of the year, Jane's birthday party! She has been in planning mode for a good month and we were fortunate to be such hot guests for her fabulous shindig (we lucked out because it was james birthday too, that made him a special guest of honor). she chose a pirate theme and we pAAAARRRRRied all day long!!!

from a pirate cake (that sunk by the afternoon), to a pinta, and finished off with a round of walking the plank we had a pretty awesome day.

I would say a birthday wish came more then true though when grandma jill got in the pool!!!!

the next day James and Scott went into Yosemite to hike Half Dome.  No small hike for these two. they came back a little stiff. the pictures sum it up nicely as to why James needed Scott to make this trek.  I would never have been brave enough to go with him.

the first four small pics are of scott and james starting out on the hike. james said that waterfall behind them is usually rushing but since they hiked later in the season it had a slower flow. the bottom right picture is of them finally reaching the last stretch of this monstrous hike.  they had to hike up those make shift, steep steep stairs. james dared to take a picture of scott climbing up them in the 2nd picture from the left, on the bottom row.  the top right corner is them at the top, just hanging out taunting death on a ridge hundreds of thousands years old.  this hike is not for the faint of heart, scott and james had to bid for a permit to hike the trail, and when they returned home safe and sound, after a nine hour trek, they told us that one guy had to be life flighted out while they were hiking. something that happens quite often on this hike.

up close of the stairs. coming down is harder then going up.
here are some of the cool nature shots they took.  pretty amazing place.

Sunday we decided to take a relaxing drive to see the Sequoia's. they were great and amazing, but the ride up the canyon to see them wasn't so relaxing. george and I both got a little queasy from the windy road. a trip worth taking for sure, but most likely a one time deal for me. george can go again when he's old enough to clean up his own barf! yuck!!

we also drove around the park to see some of the other cool stuff, like driving through one of the sequoia's and some random hike to the top of a look out. it was a pretty neat experience.

Jana showed us around town, Hanford has a lot to offer, but it mostly comes in their fields upon fields of lemon and lime trees, strawberries, corn, various nuts and a mystery plant, cotton! I was quite amused at these fields of food. incredible how many and huge they are.  the corn was by far the best I have ever tasted.

the fields are a lot more fascinating in person
we had the best trip ever! a week full of dance parties, ice cream, swimming, toad spotting, hot tubbing, olympic watching, eye dilating, shopping, national site seeing, crazy hiking, out to eating, big slide braving sorts of fun!

thanks scott and jana, we'll for sure come back soon! and bring grandpa with us! right grandpa???

a momentous occasion!!!

One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong....
can you tell which one is not like the others before I finish this song?

john, mckay, matt, andrew (d-rew)

It's Mckay, he's wearing a hat! duh!
Now, can you correctly decide who is oldest?
I'll give you a hint,

it's not this guy!!! even though the receding hairline, and swampland beard make him look like he is 50 years past the young, and current, age of 21. yes, john has has been growing this bad boy for a year. one year precisely. we were (un)lucky enough to share the journey with him because honestly there is no way to avert ones eyes from the hair ball that consumed his face.

John's beard had some adventures of its own. a beard of this caliber and magnitude should never be denied a breezy ride on a motorcycle. so john suited up, as only john can, and let the wind swish through all that fuzz.

he was also known to find leftovers stored in there as well, another perk of beard wearers, they never go hungry.  (dry heave)

but, the countdown is officially over! a year of waiting and dry heaving has commenced as we all gathered for the glorious riddance of John's beard!!!

one last comb through to show the fullness of the beast. really it was quite disgusting!

we tried to transplant the beard to his bald spots, hair that long shouldn't go to waste. but then again, 21 years olds shouldn't have receding hairlines either. cheers were yelped, tears were wiped (all from laughter), and a fine chin was restored, a kissable one even!

the happiest of all, grandma and mom got their johnny back!

and four brothers looked like brothers again, instead of three guys possibly standing with their grandpa...

and for the record, I'm the oldest, it was a trick question!
