Deborah Moss's Blog Post

Deborah Moss featured me in a recent blog post in which she discusses coming up with titles for your work.  She was one of the people who responded to my Titles post, asking for ideas.  I sent her a small piece of art, all the way to New Zealand!

This piece is titled "Paving the Way", thanks to Debora's suggestion:

18"x24", acrylic and collage on canvas, $800
E-mail me if you are interested in purchasing the original.  Prints are available on Fine Art America.

Calendars! Journals! Phone Cases!

I've licensed artwork to WalkingDots for calendars, journals, phone cases (any iPhone model) and tablet cases (again, choice of models).  They are FUN!  Nice thing about the calendars is that you can start on any month of the year.  You get all twelve months, but since they are print-on-demand, they can format them to suit. Now, of course, it's a good time to get a calendar for the year of 2017.  There is a horizontal format calendar with twelve images, and a vertical one.

This is the goofy cover of the horizontal calendar. The twelve images inside are of my work, not of me!
This is the month of June.

Cover of the vertical format calendar. All of the images in this calendar are from my series "100 Drawings on Cheap Paper", which are all 9"x12".

This is July.

The journals are 5"x8", lined.

Phone cases are available for six different phone models.

Tablet cases for iPad and iPad Mini
You can always buy prints of my work, sized and framed to suit, at Fine Art America.

Work In Progress

I started these improvisational pieces while teaching at AVA the other week.  Here are four that I consider finished; each 10"x10":
Color-Pattern-Line #1

Color-Pattern-Line #2

Color-Pattern-Line #3

Color-Pattern-Line #4

Nine more (of a dozen or so) works in progress in the same series.

The four finished pieces are now available as prints in Fine Art America.

Check This Out: My Work, BIG

As prints, anyway.  I've never heard of the  category "loft art", but ART.COM has some of my prints available only as very large pieces with this designation.
This one is sold at 72"x72".  THAT IS SIX FEET!

If I were hanging this art, I would find a bigger wall.

Ditto the above.  This one and the one above are sold at 54"x72".
These are all printed on high quality canvas.  Because of the size, some assembly is required.  Much of my work is available as prints from Fine Art America, all in various sizes.  Though it is certainly special to own original art, it is a commitment you are not always willing or able to make.  Buying good quality prints is an affordable alternative, and for me it's fun to see my work in various materials and sizes.  All of the above original works are done on paper, and at sizes much smaller than this "Loft Art".  Fun!

One option not available on Fine Art America is to make your own! Interested in a tutorial?  I could do a little step-by-step in the next post.

Some New Work

I'm having a lot of fun in my Monoprint Collage class, which is currently happening online.  Here are a few new pieces.  These are made by first printing the shapes through a stencil, then painting in the ground and other elements.  I'm trying to throw unlike things together to see what kinds of conversations they have.

These are all 10"x10", and I will mount them to wood panel.  Along with some other new work, they are now available at Jane Davies Art Gallery, in "Works on Panel".  They will also be available as prints on Fine Art America.  Stay tuned...

The ground color on the right is made from Sennelier's "Sepia".  More on color mixing in a later post.

I posted this one previously.  I think I like it the best - beginner's luck!

The UN-Gallery

The UNgallery is a hybrid of print on demand and a bricks and mortar gallery.  Read about it here.  I am one of the "founding artists", which just means that I am one of the artists they are starting out with.  I have nothing to do with the founding.  You can buy prints made on canvas, metal acrylic, or "magic block", which is a 6"x6" piece.  Most of my pieces are sold as prints much larger than my originals.

Check out my gallery here.

Click on an image in the gallery and you get this.  Then you can share it anywhere, or mark as a favorite.  OR, click "Buy Photo" in the upper right, and you'll be given options.

Here you see the print size options in metal.

Back to browsing the gallery.
Check out the other artists at UNgallery as well.  Or if you are in Key West, go look at their bricks and mortar space!

New Work Available as Prints

I've made some of my studies and new pieces available as prints on Fine Art America.  Here is how it works:  you go to my page; then click on the image you want to view:
"89/100", 9"x12", acrylic and crayon on paper

You choose among framing and format options.

And then you can choose the size.
One benefit of purchasing prints rather than originals is that you get to choose the size.  The original of this piece is 9"x12", but you can get it as large as 36"x48".

I have been pondering the issue of scale.  Often I see a piece of my own work or that of a student, and think:  this would be FABULOUS at a drastically larger scale.  But how do you DO that??  I also find interesting the juxtaposition of dramatically contrasting scales - teeny tiny marks next to great big marks.  In my studio I am investigating both of these ideas.  I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic.

Here are a few more of the new pieces now available as prints:
