My name is Janzell (you can call me Janz), and I am a software engineer based in Cebu, Philippines, with over 10 years of experience building web applications and distributed systems. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Information Management with Cum Laude honors.

My work focuses on creating scalable systems and thoughtful user experiences. I've built e-commerce platforms, real estate analytics engines, financial systems, and healthcare management platforms that serve thousands of users. I'm particularly interested in API design, database architecture, and cloud infrastructure.

Currently, I'm a Senior Software Engineer at vWise Inc., where I build digital engagement platforms that personalize employee benefits and retirement planning experiences for financial services providers. I also work as a contractor for Fresh Clinics, developing practice management software for cosmetic medical clinics across the US and Australia.

Previously, I worked at Lanex Corporation as an Assistant Manager, where I architected loan management systems and financial analytics platforms. I've also contributed to projects at ViCommerce, building e-commerce solutions using Magento, WordPress, and custom frameworks.

I'm drawn to the challenges of building systems that scale gracefully under load and remain maintainable as they grow. I care deeply about API design—how to structure endpoints that feel intuitive, how to choose between REST and GraphQL for different use cases, and how to version APIs without breaking existing clients. I think a lot about database architecture: normalization versus denormalization, when to use relational versus document stores, and how to design schemas that evolve cleanly over time.

On the frontend, I appreciate frameworks that make state management predictable (React, Vue, SolidJS) and tools that improve developer experience without sacrificing performance. I've worked extensively with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Google Cloud) and find satisfaction in architecting systems where services communicate reliably, failures are handled gracefully, and costs stay reasonable. The problems I enjoy most are the ones where technical constraints force creative solutions.

Financial Services Digital Platform

Leading development of vWise's digital engagement platform that personalizes retirement plan enrollment and benefits education for employees. Built scalable solutions for plan enrollment, benefits optimization, and product adoption that serve financial services providers nationwide. Implemented personalized participant journeys, one-click transactions, and journey-specific communications. The platform has achieved 56% transaction completion rates and 88% average increases in participant deferral rates. Tech stack includes Vue.js, Laravel, Python, Snowflake, and AWS.

Fresh Clinics Practice Management System

Healthcare SaaS Platform

Building comprehensive practice management software for cosmetic clinics, serving over 2,000 med spas across the US and Australia. Developed HIPAA-compliant systems for electronic medical records, inventory management, and telehealth consultations. Implemented clinical oversight features including good faith exams, medical director access, and adverse event management. Created mobile apps with React Native for on-the-go clinic management and backend services with Laravel. The platform helps clinic owners maintain regulatory compliance while focusing on exceptional patient care.

Loan Management System

Designed and architected a comprehensive loan management system that analyzes borrower financial behavior and automates lending decisions. Built the backend using Laravel and Node.js, with MSSQL for transactional data and Snowflake for analytics. Implemented the RateRewards program, a system that identifies and rewards borrowers with good payment histories, resulting in improved customer retention.

Predictive Analytics Platform

Collaborated on the design and architecture of a real estate analytics engine that predicts market trends using machine learning models. Built mobile applications using PhoneGap and a web platform using CodeIgniter. Developed ETL pipelines in Node.js to process property data from multiple sources into Snowflake for analysis.

Beauty Products Marketplace

Developed a Magento-based e-commerce platform for beauty products, integrated with a facial recognition API to provide personalized product recommendations.
