That's a Lotto Pleats

Well, rats.  No winning here.  Not that I expected there to be (since I forgot to stop and buy a ticket after work).  But there was one in Baltimore county, MD!   Which has me humming along to this all morning...

(And there was a winner in Illinois, but they don't have a catchy retro tune.  Do they?)

Well, maybe the winner is a follower and will buy me that beach house anyway.  ahem.

Meanwhile, it's Saturday!  I have buttonholes to sew and a new project to cut out.  I pinned this dress this week and it is fantastic:

The color is gorgeous.  LOVE the tiny pleats on the skirt and the tailored sleeve.  Looks a LOT like this doesn't it?

Which is my favorite Chuck dress of all time!  This collar/neckline is better suited to me (I might be too old for peter pan collars? Nahhhh.)

I have had this pattern (vintage Simplicity 3039) in my stash for a while now:

And I still have that bold royal blue dotted swiss too:

That combo would be like....

And bonus, if I get the dress all nicely fitted (should be easy since I've been playing around with a "sloper" I made from another project bodice) then I can use that hot pink Imperial broadcloth I bought last year to make Chuck's dress too.

Good plan, right?

Once Upon a Pie...

You already know of my intense love of all things Pushing Daisies.  After all, I did an entire series of collages based on Chuck's wardrobe!

Then my blogger friend Barbara, of Moxie Tonic, decided she wanted to create a Pushing Daisies wardrobe/fashion blog.  When she asked for input, I jumped at the chance to help!  More Pushing Daisies?  Yes, please!

Together we have been (sometimes feverishly) putting together a wonderful new blog featuring all of our favorite people, places, and things about Pushing Daisies.  Finally, I feel like our baby is well enough on it's way to share with you!

May I present....Once Upon a Pie!

While our main goal is to ultimately document every single fabulous outfit that the ladies wore on the show, we also have plans to include a Stitching Daisies section, for all of those "inspired by..." creations, a vintage pie recipe section, Emerson's knitting patterns, and tons more Pushing Daisies inspiration.

I hope you'll come see what we've been up to, and follow along!  Pushing Daisies, the television show, may be a thing of the past, but it lives on in our hearts.

Grab a button if you'd like to share one on your blog! Just copy the linky text below and paste into a new "add html" gadget (if you're using blogger).

thursday thursday.

SO many great comments in my giveaway post!  And I can't wait til this weekend when I can peruse about a hundred new-to-me blogs!  Thank you all so much for sharing your sewing plans.  I see several kindred spirits.

If you haven't entered the giveaway yet, go to the previous post to do so before midnight tomorrow!

Meanwhile, while we wait for Friday midnight, did you see this cute (free!) tank download over at Fabric.com?

You can download your own copy at the page here. I've already downloaded mine!

I'm off now to have a Subway flatbread, because I'm starving.  Before I go though, so many of you commented about what a generous giveaway and expressed delight with the patterns (but couldn't believe I could part with them)...well now I'm going to let you in on a little secret.  I have TOO MANY PATTERNS.  I, Angie.A have a vintage pattern buying problem.  ha.

I dearly love these patterns, but honestly, I'll never take the time to grade them because since buying them I've found something similar in a better size for me.  So don't feel any guilt whatsoever! I am SO happy to pass them on to someone who will love and cherish and use them!

But, you know, if anyone out there would like to get me one of these for my blogiversary gift, I promise I will make good use of it:

My very own Lee Pace Pieman.  Can you just imagine?  Mmm hmmm.

ps...Cherry Sundress news:  I'm chicken to cut into that fabulous vintage cherry print fabric (in case it doesn't fit) so I'm making a "test garment" in a yummy yellow floral.  (Not vintage, but still adorable).  So hopefully at the end of this little project, I'll have TWO cute sundresses!  More to show on THAT this weekend!

shoesday.

Ok, Wednesday.  But I had a fun box waiting for me when I got home from Naturalizer.com:

Love them!  I think they will be the perfect accessory to one of my Chuck-inspired spring outfits.  Like these slim green pants & cute tops:

Or maybe this adorable yellow outfit:

Just in case that's not enough Pushing Daisies for you, I'm still putting together collages of my favorite outfits.  LOVE these too:

Awww Chuck, I miss you & Ned & PD!!!   Good thing we have DVDs and Netflix so you can live on in your quirky pie shop forever.

(If you want to see all the Chuck outfit collages I've made so far, you can check out the whole album in my flickr over on the right!)

More mail...I also had this adorable vintage Simplicity sundress from my favorite Etsy seller:

I love the little bolero. Now that I have a basic bodice just about perfectly fitted, I thought it might be nice to have a princess seam dress fitted too.

No sewing progress...too tired this week!  Darn, those snow days sure do make the regular week harder.  Hmmm.

pushing daisies & a vtg mccalls

Do you know what Netflix is most especially good for?

Snow Days.   And catching up on tv shows you forgot about or never had the chance to meet.
We've been off all week here what with our little blizzard and all.  (It's snowing again today.)   Lu & I have been watching Pushing Daisies on instant play.

I am SO in love with Chuck's entire closet!  I've been busy compiling screencaps to plan my spring and summer wardrobe.  Some of my favorites...

I love the full, feminine, swishy skirts and fitted bodices.  And the abundance of yellow.  I just bought several shirting and lawn prints from Fabric.com, at least 3 pieces in yellow, so this was pure serendipity. I also have saturated greens and blues, mostly stripes, checks and simple florals.  I was channeling Chuck and I didn't even realize it!

I have plenty of patterns to choose from, including this gorgeous McCalls:

And I'm ready to muslin my square neck sundress (bodice only) one more time after the last few changes. Then I'll be cutting out my first Pushing Daisies dress, I think a bright green check first.  I'm digging through stash but so far I haven't found a cute 50s shirtdress...odd.  That seems like something I should have in stash! Etsy time!

I am also digging around to find a suitable fabric for this lovely:

It is also very "Chuck-like", don't you think?  I have a size 15, so I had to grade up and do an FBA first.  Here is my first muslin:

Note the snazzy knit pj pants. ;)  The fit was pretty darn good.  The sleeve is a tad too tight, so I did a simple slash and spread on front and back sleeves to add a 1/2" to each.  Up there on my shoulder you might be able to see a "dart" I have pinned out.  With this type of cut-on cap sleeve, that bunchiness is inevitable, but I did attempt a small fisheye dart here to remove some of that.  I had to rotate it into the waist darts.

I also lowered the waist darts another 2".  Whoops.  Forgot to do that on the traced/graded pattern I guess!  The neckline lies perfectly against me (I keep experiencing this with vintage patterns which makes new patterns less appealing, let me tell you!) in front and back.  There is a tiny bit of pulling at bra level in back, so I did add a bit there, as shown in my last post I think (the Rasband book).

Lastly...a swayback adjustment.  I really don't have much of a swayback, I have a short waist and usually petite patterns in back.  Sometimes in front too, but I typically need additional length over my bust anyway, so in a weird way, a swayback adjustment works better on some patterns than petiting.  If that makes any sense.  I'm not even muslining again, this one's ready for fashion fabric!

I leave you with pretty snow and visitors outside my window...
