Labor and delivery
February 25 2012
5:30am- We get a call from labor and delivery that we needed to be there in an hour for my induction. It was so nice being able to shower and get ready. We woke up Drake and headed over to Joyce's house to drop him off. He was excited to be there so it made dropping him off easier.

6:30am-We arrived at the hospital.

8:00am-Dr. Chalmers came in and broke my water. I was dilated to a 3.

9:15am-Dilated to a 5 and having hard contractions. I was ready for an epidural.

10:00am-Feeling good. Watched some t.v, had a few visitors and took a nap.

12:30-Feeling a lot of pressure and started getting nauseous. The nurse came in gave me some medicine to help with the nausea. Dilated to a 7.

1:15pm-By then I was feeling a lot more pressure and started getting the shakes. I knew I had to be getting close. Nurse came in checked me and I was dilated to a 10. She called Dr. Chalmers and he was in 5 minutes later. I started getting feeling in my legs and feet. I pushed for 20 minutes and he was out.

Right away we did skin to skin. After about 30 minutes of him being on my chest he was still upset so I had the nurse take him to get his weight checked and get him wrapped up in a blanket. He continued to cry so the nurse gave him back to me to see if I could calm him down by nursing. He latched right on.  After about an hour we headed up to the room to get settled in.
Brooks finally settled down by the time we got up to the room, but was making a grunting noise when he would breathe. His little hands and lips looked a little purple so the nurse took him to the nursery to have him looked at. They were gone for a good 30 minutes. The nurses from the NICU came in my room with Brooks to tell me they were going to take him down stairs to the NICU because he was having a hard time breathing. His poor little lungs were underdeveloped and they needed to keep him in the NICU until he was stable.

They told me I could give him a kiss before they had to take him down the the NICU.
I completely lost it.

After Brooks was out of the NICU Cassidy came to our house to take newborn/family pictures for us.
We were all pretty worn out from being at the hospital for a week it was so nice of her to come to us.
I love all of these pictures. They mean the world to me.

I'm now just getting around to posting my birth pictures. It has been a crazy couple months with two kids and blogging is so far down my list of things to do. My amazing talented friend Cassidy Miller came to the birth of Brooks to photograph one of the greatest days of our lives. We are so grateful of her.
Here are just a few of my favorites.
