FAQs
How do we get there?
While we don’t recommend walking, you should probably start no later than late May and pack lots of sunscreen, a tent, and water.
If you are driving, Google gives great directions. Start by putting in your address and then make Joseph, Oregon your destination.
If you are flying, Walla Walla Airport is the closest to Joseph, about 2.5 hours away. Obviously at this distance renting a car is a must. The next airport is Boise (a little over 4 hours), then Portland (about 5.5 hours).
There are smaller regional airports similar to Walla Walla in Lewiston, ID and the Tri Cities area, OR. Just like with Walla Walla, there are no direct flights and you will have to fly into Portland, Seattle, or Boise and catch a connecting flight to one of them. Kelly flies with Alaska Airlines and has never had a bad experience.
Don’t forget your rental car! Book this at the same time you are booking your hotel and flights. You want to make sure you have a way to get there as well as a place to stay.
Where can we stay?
There is a lot of lodging in Joseph, everything from vacation rentals at the lake to motels to B&Bs. However, if you are planning on coming, we recommend booking as soon as possible as some places are already completely booked.
The next town over is Enterprise, you can find some accommodations there as well. If you are having trouble deciding or finding a place, give Kelly or Karen a call and we’d be happy to help you find something.
Where is the wedding?
For the day of the wedding, you will need to travel to 60685 Liberty Road, Joseph, Oregon 97846. If you feel like you’ve gone too far (up Liberty) and you haven’t hit the cattle guard or gone over the creek, keep driving. Don’t worry, you won’t be able to miss us, we’ll have decorations out at the end of the driveway, which will be on your left. Please look at a map or cache the one on your phone before heading out of town, cell reception is spotty.
What is there to do around town?
Drinks and Food
There are three breweries in the area (all of which have food):
- Terminal Gravity Brewing-Enterprise
- Mutiny Brewing Company-Joseph
- Embers Brew House-Joseph
There is also Lathrop Country Wines in Joseph and just down Main Street from Kelly’s favorite breakfast spot, Red Horse Coffee (their savory corncake is divine!), is Stein Distillery.
Other spots to catch a bite to eat are Coco’s Grill and Beech 18 Bar and The Outlaw.
Shopping and Galleries
There are a few art galleries, a statue garden, and many cute shops to walk around in. Don’t forget to stop by Arrowhead Chocolates for some delicious truffles and a hazelnut milk chai.
Recreation
For the more adventurous, there are kayak, paddleboard, canoe, and rowboat rentals at Wallowa Lake. There are also many hiking trails in the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
Craving something a little more thrilling? Take a ride up the Wallowa Lake Tramway on a 3700 vertical foot ascent to the top of Mt. Howard.
What do I wear?
Wear This: Comfy and Classy
(although heels are strongly discouraged)
…Not That: Too Formal and Stuffy
…Or That: Wrong Time of Year
Basically we want you to be comfortable but keep it classy for the wedding. Any other time you can get down with your bad self, like Raj here who does a mean Catwoman.
Are you registered?
Yes we are, although your presence is more than enough.
If you do feel so inclined, registry info can be found here (there is also a link in our navigation menu). As we already have a fully furnished home, the registry is quite small. For another way to contribute, we have set up a honeymoon fund to help us make our Seattle honeymoon just a little bit more special.
What if I drink too much and stumble off into the woods?
You will probably be eaten by wolves and mountain lions. At the same time.
