A Couple Shadowdark Roll20 Marcos

Was talking with a dude on Discord. They shared a couple things they made that take advantage of Roll20’s ability in recent years to embed outside images. So here is a macro for calling up some rules:

If you wanna throw the creator some fava beans, you could buy this from them. They don’t have a blog.

If you want a free, clever, browser-based light timer thing I made for Shadowdark torch timing, go to this post.

Feats of Hexploration for Old School Revelries

I’m still running DCC peons through Tegel Manor, but the usual DCCRPG Experience Point doling is a bit too slow for us, as we only play two to three hours a week. Thus, I’ve added these achievement-based XP rewards.

The game is pretty much RAW, but it doesn’t hurt to add this system a nd some MVP votes on top of it to wrap up the session with the feels goods.

If you want more ideas, try out Arduin XP, which I posted about here.

Achievements:

  • Talked in character multiple times to other characters (roleplayed): 5×LVL extra XP. Maybe 10 for a damn fine job.

  • Did a risky job or carried out a foolish plan:5×LVLextra XP.

  • Got a killing blow: 5×LVL extra XP

or 15×LVL XP extra XP if it was a crit.

  • Can claim you did a deed never seen in the campaign: 20×LVL extra XP.

  • Have a prime ability score of 15 or higher (for instance, a Warrior needs high STR or DEX): 5×LVL extra XP.

  • Found one or more treasures: 5×LVL extra XP for everyone.

  • Figured out a puzzle or riddle: 10×LVL extra XP.

  • Found and took a secret door or passage: 5×LVL extra XP.

  • Friendly fired (spell misfires fit here): 5×LVL extra XP to you and the person you shot.

  • Went down to 1HP but no lower: 5×LVL extra XP

  • The party would have been cooked if it wasn’t for your action: : 20×LVL extra XP.

  • Spellburned, cast a reversed spell, or used a spell in a novel manner: 5×LVL extra XP.

  • Got downed (0HP), corrupted, disapproved, cursed, or mutated (permanent potions and spell effects count): 10×LVL extra XP.

  • Used a magic item or potion for the first time: 5×LVL extra XP.

  • Came back after successfully attempting a long-ass casting time spell: 5+spell level×LVL extra XP.

  • Defeated a worthy foe mano a mano: : 5×LVL extra XP.

d66 Random Dungeon Generation

If, when rolling the dice, you need some shapes, take cues from the dice you rolled. 1s can be long, 2s can be symmetrical, 3s can be round, &c. You could even use the numeral shapes themselves. Doors can often be placed by feels alone.

11 Corridor, ending in a door.
12  Corridor, doors on both sides.
13  Corridor, dead end.
14  Corridor, leads to cruciform intersection.
15  Shaft down. Corridor with secret door it that is too soon.
16  Shaft up.

21 Teleporter room, altar to the god of dungeons.
22 Teleporter room, trap (sigils lead to other sigils).
23 Teleporter room, magic mirrors.
24 Empty room, dead end.
25 Occupied room, dead end.
26 One-way path such as a drop, turn-style, crumbling Moria pillars, &c.

The threes may have to apply retroactively if they are rolled first.
31 Same as whatever the last roll was, but also with a small shrine.
32 Same as the last roll, but also trapped.
33 Same as the last roll, but there is a secret passage.
34 Same as the last roll, but occupied by a treasure-guardian.
35 Same as the last roll, but the floor or ceiling has given way.
36 Same as the last roll, doubled.

41 Cavern, small. Next four things are also cave system.
42 Series of small caves and grottoes.
43 Underground river, lake, or sea. 5 places to go around it.
44 Path carved by the god of the underworld.
45 Purple worm tunnels. Walk without rhythm.
46 Bug tunnels. Some bugs are smart. Some are humanoid.

51 Stairs up.
52 Stairs down.
53 Ramp up.
54 Slope down.
55 Elevator.
56 Wind or pheumatics.

61 Fortified area such as a fort or castle. 10 or more rooms.
62 Fane. At least 4 rooms.
63 Cluster of 5 rooms occupied by a faction.
64 Catacombs. Long and tall.
65 Under-jungle (usually fungal).
66 Dragon complex. Nice and roomy with 5 areas.

roll a d666 for your new ability scores

I like me some quick character generation. You can roll a 2d6 to get your scores and call it good, or add in a third d6 to find out which one of the standard D&D scores is your first score using the first number in he cell (the rest follow in order, as Crom intended). It really is best if you have that third d6, so that not everybody has a sucky first score. These scores are probably too week for power-fantasy D&Ds.
