Dollish Polish Hylian Princess and Essie Play Date

I recently got together with a friend of mine who is also a lacquer enthusiast; she had recently picked up a few new polishes, and I decided to try this combination: Essie Play Date as a base for Dollish Polish Hylian Princess.

Hylian Princess is mixture of white, gold, purple, and lavender glitters in a clear base. I thought this combination looked really pretty paired with Essie Play Date, a beautiful light purple creme.

The formulas on both Hylian Princess and Play Date were really great. Play Date applied with the usual ease that I've come to expect from the Essie creme formula, and Hylian Princess deposited a nice mixture of glitter at one coat. Overall, I was really happy with both of these lacquers.

Dollish Polish Expecto Patronum

HOLY AWESOME POLISH, BATMAN!

Behold: Dollish Polish Expecto Patronum, two coats, good formula, wore like iron. It has a milky white base with pretty blue glitter of various sizes, and these amazing little copper flakes (hard to see, but in the right light you can see them).

Yep, solid top 10 material for me, and definitely worthy of an "awesome" tag. Good stuff.

Dollish Polish Heart of Glass (over Sally Hansen Violet Voltage)

Today I have a fun combination to share with you! This post with showcase Dollish Polish Heart of Glass, layered over Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Violet Voltage. I decided that my brand new Walkman Domo might be a good companion for Heart of Glass, seeing as how he's clearly a music fan. I'm a Blondie fan, myself, and in fact I distinctly remember my mom buying me my first ever CD, which was a Blondie compilation disc. I was mesmerized by the song "Heart of Glass".

We'll get to Dollish Polish Heart of Glass in a moment; in the meantime, this is what I chose to layer it over. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Violet Voltage is a lovely light purple, with pretty shimmer running through it. I think this is new for spring 2012. The formula on this is lovely, and this was two coats of Violet Voltage:

Dollish Polish Heart of Glass is a holographic topcoat, which contains a whole bunch of Spectra Flair for a linear holo effect, in addition to larger jagged holographic shards and holographic bar glitter. The jagged, irregular holographic shards made me think of bits of a compact disc if it was shattered. A fitting connection to make, perhaps?

This is one coat of Heart of Glass over Violet Voltage:

The following pictures in direct sunlight best show Heart of Glass in all its holographic glory:

What did you think of Dollish Polish Heart of Glass? Does it bring back fond musical memories for you?

I purchased my bottle of Heart of Glass through Dollish Polish's Etsy shop, but she has since relocated to a new website; you can now find her here.

And because this post wouldn't be complete without Blondie singing "Heart of Glass", here you go!

Dollish Polish Travelin' the Nile

I decided to add some sparkle to my Sally Hansen Aquamarine Chrome manicure, so I layered Dollish Polish "Travelin' the Nile" overtop. Travelin' the Nile is a nice mixture of vibrant, shiny, blue glitter; it varies in size and shape, which makes for a cool effect. It also has some holographic glitter in it, so in the light it really sparkles.

Because I can never take nice pictures of my nails when I'm trying to hold onto a mini bottle, this time you get a substitute prop for nail pictures- tropical flower Domo will be standing in for the mini bottle on this one!

He looks so excited, doesn't he?

I originally envisioned this over a darker blue/purple creme (maybe something like Essie No More Film), but I think the chrome base is actually kind of interesting. What do you think?

This reminds me of water droplets!

I wore this combination to see B.B. King play one evening a short while ago; it was a really great show to see. At the age of 86 (amazing, right?!) his voice might not be as strong as it once was, but he's still got it. Here's a video you might enjoy (this is from '93, I think). Enjoy!

Dollish Polish - Hip Hop Hippity Hop

Today I have a Dollish Polish lacquer to share with you- this is Hip Hop Hippity Hop, a very Easter-appropriate pastel pink with several shades of tiny round glitter in it:

This is two coats, and while the formula was a little thick, it was still manageable. The base colour is a somewhat berry-leaning cool pink (it reminded me of berry yoghurt, strangely enough). It contains a lovely mixture of small raspberry pink glitter, and tiny reflective blue and green glitters. Overall, it's a really pretty effect, and kind of gives a jelly sandwich appearance because of the glitter showing through the milky base.

As I mentioned, this is obviously a very Easter appropriate lacquer, and even though I hadn't yet received it at the time Easter weekend came around, I don't mind one bit because it's really lovely. I know what will be on my nails come Easter 2013!

Finally, I just wanted to mention that I spent some time re-organizing my nail polish collection yesterday. Over the last couple years my collection had become increasingly jumbled (as well as increasingly -alarmingly!- large) and although vaguely organized by colour it had become rather difficult to find anything. Therefore, a re-organization was warranted. This time I decided to organize by brand... and well, it might seem absurd, but I really love seeing them all lined up together in formation. Like little battalions of troops, all uniform and standing next to each other. It's pretty awesome.

How do you organize your lacquers? And what do you think of Dollish Polish Hip Hop Hippity Hop?

Essence Walk of Fame + Dollish Polish Walk Like An Egyptian

Today I wanted to show you another Dollish Polish Valley of the King lacquer: Walk Like An Egyptian. I've layered it over Essence Walk of Fame. This is Walk of Fame by itself (two coats):

This is a pretty standard mushroom-y taupe colour. There are a lot of other lacquers like this, but at $1.49 you can't really go wrong. The application was easy, and I actually really like the brush in the Essence polishes.

After a day I decided to add Dollish Polish Walk Like An Egyptian to my manicure to freshen it up. I find  adding a top coat of some kind to a day-old manicure is a great way to extend the life of my lacquer, particularly when I don't have a lot of time to completely re-do it.

This is two coats of Walk Like An Egyptian over Walk of Fame. Hey, these both have "Walk" in the title. I honestly just noticed that now as I was typing it out. Hah.

Walk Like An Egyptian is chock full of different sizes of bronze glitter in what I believe is a tinted base. You can see how it changes the base colour to a slightly darker, more brown colour. It's also worth mentioning that this wore like iron. Normally polishes chip like crazy on me, but all of the Dollish Polish glitters have been pretty exceptional in terms of wear time.

What do you think of these two lacquers? Do you think they make good partners?

Obligatory St. Patrick's Day Manicure (a few days late)

Okay, so this is a little late, but I was having some trouble uploading pictures. I've got it solved now, though, so here we go...

I began with two coats of American Apparel Hunter; as the name suggests, this is a hunter green creme. It has the usual lovely American Apparel formula, and is really shiny. Definitely a good St. Patrick's Day green!

Then I added two coats of Dollish Polish Palm Fronds. I really, really, love how this turned out. I don't think I totally captured how magical this looks. Palm Fronds has various sizes and shades of vibrant green glitter (including awesome large square green glitter). Green Domo is helping to model this combo, as is only appropriate for St. Patrick's Day.

The green glitter really pops agains the dark green base. I got a tonne of compliments on this, and I'm really thrilled- I'll definitely be breaking this out again!

What do you think of my St. Patrick's Day combination?

Oh, and one more thing! I wanted to let you all know that I'll be doing a small giveaway soon. I recently hit 50 followers, and wanted to celebrate by sharing something cool I found today with my readers... I'll post about in it more detail soon. This giveaway will only be open to my existing followers at the time I officially announce it, as I wanted to thank my current readers. So, for the readers who don't follow me through GFC but in some other way, I wanted to give you the opportunity to sign up if you're interested, as that will be the medium through which I will keep track of eligible participants. I'm excited! I can't wait to share this with all of you.

Dollish Polish - Scarab - Valley of the Kings collection (Space Guerrillas, Part 2!)

I thought that Dollish Polish Scarab, from the Valley of the Kings collection, would be the perfect glitter to layer over yesterday's Smoke and Ashes. Sadly, as you'll see from the previous days post, Smoke and Ashes was abducted by a rather menacing Space Guerrilla. Ah well, we must keep on, no matter the perils that polishing brings. This is two coats of Scarab over Smoke and Ashes:

Isn't it gorgeous? It really pops against the glossy black of Smoke and Ashes, with it's very subtle blue-green glitter. Scarab itself is made up of smaller gold, red, and green glitter with a smattering of larger blue, green and gold glitter. I'm really happy with this, and can't wait to review the rest of Dollish Polish's Valley of the Kings collection (for the review of Bow to the Pharaoh, click here).

What do you think of Scarab? What do you think some great layering combinations might be? I have to say, I'm really glad that pesky Space Guerrilla seems to have wandered off, I wouldn't want this pretty lacquer to get snatched up...

Oh for crying out loud! For real?! Marauding Space Rhinoceroses, abducting my Dollish Polish? I'm NOT cool with this.

Dollish Polish - Valley of the Kings Collection

I'm thrilled to have received my first ever order from Dollish Polish, which represents my first foray into the "indie polish" phenomenon. I ordered the "Valley of the Kings" collection, in miniature form.

In the bottle they are ridiculously sparkly and vibrant- and they came very carefully packaged as well. No broken bottles here!

I'm not the only one excited for sparkly new lacquers- Domo is beside himself with excitement!

 "OMG, did you hear??"

"Look, it's Dollish Polish!"

The first colour I decided to try is "Bow to the Pharaoh".

Dollish Polish Bow to the Pharaoh is a mixture of gold glitters, a bit of slate blue glitter, and some crazy reflective gold-holo glitter in a clear base. The overall effect is a very antique looking gold with added depth from the blue glitter and crazy sparkle from the holo glitter. I decided to layer Bow to the Pharaoh over China Glaze Fast Track, thinking the gold shimmer in Fast Track would work well with Bow to the Pharaoh. I think it does, and I'm pretty thrilled with the finished product! What you see below is two coats of Dollish Polish Bow to the Pharaoh over China Glaze Fast Track.

In direct sunlight:

Blurred to show the amazing holographic sparkle this has:

Overall I'm very happy with this polish; it reminds me of antique gold with the added bonus of amazing holographic sparkle. Over the taupe and yellow-gold shimmery base of Fast Track, it has a cool sand-y look to it. The two play well together, but I think next time I'll try Bow to the Pharaoh over a darker creme base to see if it will "pop" even more.

Maybe the best thing about this lacquer? It's totally Domo-approved. ;)

Domos love Dollish Polish!

What do you think of Dollish Polish Bow to the Pharaoh? Do you own any Dollish Polish? I can't wait to try the rest of these!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I purchased these through Dollish Polish's Etsy shop at http://www.etsy.com/shop/DollishPolish
