~Vintage Knitting Book Giveaway & Birthday Time~

This weekend has seen me turn 44, which is a bit of a shock, but a nicer more symmetrical number than 43...
Laura bought me these lovely flowers.
Remember the Beginner's Crochet on 1st Feb at Me and Mrs Fisher in York? The lovely Hannah and Liz mentioned me and my blog on their Facebook page here.  So, I did also attend the Improver's Crochet the following week and I did manage to understand and complete the different projects, but I was very slow!  My colleague from work came along too (she was accomplished and speedy), and she made me this for my birthday.  Clever lady.  Just the shade of blue I like...

I am giving away this lovely booklet of vintage inspired knitting projects, by the talented Sarah Hatton.

If you would like to win this lovely pattern book, just leave me a comment and I will randomly draw a winner at 6pm Monday 24th February. Good luck x

~Gardening Giveaway~

I got a tiny bit of my gardening mojo back yesterday and today. Though windy and bitterly cold out of the sun, yes, actual sun,  it was lovely to potter about and see that things were starting to grow.  New green shoots on my clematis; it's the small things that cheer me up...
Tete-a-tete daffodils in a shady corner

Primroses (they must have liked the cold) and pulmonaria
Now that Spring is coming I'm wondering what the year has in store weather wise.  Last year was a dead loss for tomatoes and fruit in my garden. Today I sowed some tomato seeds in trays and have them indoors on a sunny windowsill to germinate - but normally I would have done this already.  I sowed 2 cherry types as I eventually grow them outdoors in wall-mounted troughs. First one were some new seeds I bought  'F1 Sweet 'n' Neat Cherry' from Suttons seeds.  8 seeds for blooming £1.99! Apart from that I decided to be frugal and have a forage for seeds in the garage In my seed tin I found some free seeds from a magazine last year - 'Red Cherry' by Fothergills seeds. I've also sown some seed trays with Cosmos 'Purity',  marigolds and Borage.
Time for a Spring gardening giveaway!

The giveaway consists of; gardening gloves, handmade Rosemary & Marjoram soap, an RHS Gardening Techniques book and some seeds from my tin (Marigolds, Foxgloves and Sweet Williams) - just leave me comment for a chance to enter.  (UK entrants only please)
For an extra entry please link back to me on your blog and let me know you've done this in a second comment. Closing date  12 midday Sunday 14th April.
Good luck!

~Fat Quarter Giveaway~

After a busy week last week I finally managed to finish off my Christmas pudding tea cosy.  As I knitted it in moss stitch, it hung off the teapot like a poor-fitting frock in need of support.  Foundation garments in the way of wadding and lining were needed! I bought this 1940s fabric at a Vintage Fair, and have wondered what to do with it as I didn't want to waste it. So it now has a purpose - keeping my Christmas brew warm.
I'm hoping it will become a tradition to get it out every year. Maybe it will become a family heirloom!
Anyway, Giveaway time again - this time it's fabric from my stash.
To enter the draw to win a fat quarter of pretty craft fabric, please leave a comment below before 10pm on Friday 18th November, stating which fabric you'd like...
Navy sprigged cotton (left) ...or the cotton lawn (right)

P.S. Good luck all!
P.P.S. Many thanks and welcome to all the followers of my blog x

~Hallowe'en Giveaway~

Thanks for the great comments and lots of interest in my Haberdashery Heaven post, both here and on Twitter. Never mind a global recession; us crafty folk know what's important to debate - trimmings, mother of pearl buttons, crochet lace and ribbon! Brilliant.
The only thing that could surpass the divine subject of haberdashery is another giveaway.
On my visit to Me & Mrs Fisher, I purchased this cute seasonal chap...

Pictured on my sewing table is Mr Mouse and his pumpkin, lovingly crafted in Yorkshire by Dawn at Treacher Creatures available at Me and Mrs Fisher.  See here for more gorgeous examples of her work on Etsy too. Dawn makes unique sock animals and crocheted Amigurumi. Follow her on Twitter as @DSquiffy He'd make a lovely pincushion but I don't think I could bear to put my pins in him...
To have a chance of winning him...please leave me a comment below before 10pm on Friday and become a follower of my little blog.
That's all....Good Luck!

~Haberdashery Heaven~

I took part in a Twitter chat this week about the lack of Haberdashery in department stores these days...Of course I know shopping habits have changed - and I buy ribbon, buttons and fabric online like the next crafty-person- but nothing beats a leisurely mooch and touchy-feel around an inspiring haberdashery. Some crafters in the South West can't find decent supplies and it has to be said Hobbycraft did reply and say they were looking at the situation. However, personally I love independent shops.  And I have to say I don't mind a market hall haberdashery stall for basics - but choice is limited and often not the style or quality that I'd like. It's a bit like grocery shopping - I get basics from one place and shop around. I like to buy vintage buttons from a certain charity shop in Wetherby, thread, tape and basic supplies from here and wool from Wool and Buttons here.  In York and Leeds we're lucky in that we have the famous Duttons for Buttons and Samuel Taylor, as well as my new favourite Haberdashery Heaven in the previously blogged-about Me and Mrs Fisher. This little treasure trove, called Sunday Nest, is part of Liz and Hannah's emporium and is accessed through Narnia-esque doors from the tearoom, up the stairs and next to where the craft workshops take place. Gorgeous, gorgeous things - I heart♥ily recommend it!
Some of my purchases .....
I also bought a lovely mouse and pumpkin pin cushion which I will feature in a Giveaway tomorrow.
If you visit York make sure you pop into Me and Mrs Fisher.

~I ♥ Lavender Hearts~

Earlier this week I found out I'd won Daffodil & Snowdrop's lavender heart giveaway.  I don't win stuff. I just never do. Well, apart from first prize for my chutney 2 yrs ago in a local horticultural show, and before that a year's supply of Jordan's toothbrushes and dental floss in 1984 in Just 17 magazine.

My gift arrived...

...beautifully wrapped and so pretty.
Cheered me up and made me smile after a long day...
(It will have a home (soon) in my caravan. Ssssh!)
Thankyou to Em at Daffodils & Snowdrops, one of my very favourite blogs. I covet the photography and like the style of writing (and the blog in general) - and it has one of the nicest headers too - really effective.
Thankyou again! May more of Lady Luck come my way!

~And the winner is! Tea Cosy & Teapigs Giveaway~

Here we are again...
This time I numbered the comments 1-7 in the order they were received...

I had some lovely new followers this week, but they didn't leave a comment, so (gulp!) I had to be strict and not include them in the draw. I don't do strict very well.  Then I  used the trusy number generator...
And the winner is...
Em, Number 2! Please email me (lavenderattic@hotmail.co.uk) with your address and I'll send you your teacosy!
