Cavern Tiles - New Tiles

Since receiving the Dwarven Forge dungeon tiles last month, I have been looking in the Workshop of Doom for some previous Hirst Arts tile work I did last year. Well I found it and got kinda hooked again. I spent an evening pouring tiles so I could make a couple more large rooms and corridors.

The tiles are from the cavern molds series. These are perfectly sized for fitting with the Dwarven Forge tiles. So now I can have a regular dungeon, and a cavern labyrinth. Good for me.

Here's where I am at with the caverns:

Cavern Room or entry - 28mm fig for scale

Open 6x6 Tile

2nd Cavern Room, 2 Connecting Corridors

Cavern Walls - Loose so they can modify rooms and big tiles

Dungeon Accessories - Ruined columns, chests, boxes, sacks, barrels, fonts, and piles.

Here's a few things on the work bench:

Demonworld giant spider, Micropanzer Walkers, and a few Bones

And a pile of Bones. I am finding that the Bones need a lot of Tacky Glue on a stick to stay on for painting. Big pile of Orcs, Golems and a few monsters.
We are playtesting different takes on wargaming fantasy dungeon bashing, especially when you have 6-8 people playing. And we want to be able to play heroes and denizens.

Bones II

So. Reaper just put up Bones II and 47 minutes in (at 9:47 central US time) its already at $265,000.00 with a goal of $30k. Obviously the 30k is a way low point. But almost 10x goal in 45 minutes. Sheesh.Reaper Miniatures Bones II: The Return Of Mr Bones!

Good looking all in at this point with this as base set so far:

So they are doing things a little different. $100.00 entry point minimum. No smaller pledges. They are also limiting pledges on a first come first serve basis and its tied to shipping. So the first 2000 that pledged, got the first shipping slot, which is Sept 2014. the next 2000 got Oct 2014. Etc. They got 17,000 pledges last time, so Reaper learned a lot about fulfilling one of these mega Kickstarters. Easier on their staff and encouraging early pledges.Smart. Really smart.

They are Halloween themed right now. But I think they may be hinting at doing big terrain pieces. That would be awesome.

Oh, and a summary of the first Bones KS:

Material is bendy when its thin.
Does not prime well unless you use the right paint.
Bases on most are warped.
Mold line are easily scraped.
Material is easily cut and can be bent with hot water.
For price, access to big figs is amazing.
I dont need all the character figs, but to get the monsters and such gotta get them.

Overall, I will never paint all of the bones I already have, but for me having 25 orcs for 20 dollars, its awesome.

Bones are sorted.

Well, the bones are sorted. Which in and of itself is no small task. But I'm an organizer when it comes to such things. So I have 4 piles. First one is dungeon dressings. there are only a few, and I put them in my box of GW bits for doing fantasy buildings and such. Second is the Chronoscope SF stuff. Not too much of that, put that in a box of unpainted plastic SF stuff.

Next is the fantasy characters. A huge pile. Adventurers, Fantasy races, good and evil. Tons to choose from for some fun one offs and building adventuring parties.

Finally, is the monsters and creatures. Orcs and goblins and undead and vermin and huge things and small things and all manner of things. The gold mine. I have been the most excited about getting these minis. I have a bunch of painted adventurers. I have a limited palette of monsters and creatures. Cant wait to dig in. Probably start with some vermin and work my way up from there.to the mighty Kaladrax.

Chris Palmer of GASLIGHT fame (one of the BG's favorite games) has put up a Blog to chronicle his efforts to paint all of his Bones. Good luck Chris! We'll be watching. I'll be posting mine here.

Hopefully some time to paint coming up soon. Good stroking everyone!

Bones have arrived! - 7-3-13

Bones are here. It's all so lovely. Worth the wait!

Vampire on the bottom, with the Orcpacalypse box, giants and Monsters a plenty, plus the rediculously sized Kaladrax.

This is just the base of Kaladrax. Hot Wheel and ipad for scale.

Body of Kaladrax

and finally the head of Kaladrax.
Holy crap that thing is huge. I really just had no idea. I wanted an undead dragoon who could be the centerpiece to my 15mm Undead army and be big enough to be scary. Well, I got it. He's the size of a whole division or even army. Wow Reaper.

So no more waiting. Time to sort and start painting for October when the prepainted(thank god) Dwarven Forge Dungeon Tiles show up.

REAPER BONES - SLOW CRAWL VIDEO!

For those of you waiting til March for your Bones to arrive, meet your Doom! Here is the Vampire level pledge in one slow video crawl. And for everyone (and I mean everyone) who bought a bunch of extras, Oh my god!

When will I ever paint these. Man.

It looks very good, but check out the candle sticks on the candelabras. Bent over. I have been worried about how the bones material will work with slender things like weapons and such. Generally it looks like pretty good, but there will probably be a couple of issues. Rubberized plastic has memory, so if these are pulled out hot and the pulling distorts something it could stay that way. It will be interesting to see. On the other hand, if you are a kitbasher or modder, just look at the variety of stuff you get and the ease with which you can cut and snip it.

Looking forward to March.
