Sled Ride

"If  it stays on the ground three days,"
Grandpa said, "It will snow some more,"
The third morning we watched snowflakes falling
Through frosted panes in the front door.
In the afternoon sun, it melted to slush,
But froze that night with an icy crust.
Icicles dangled from the traffic light,
As we dashed across the street for a snowball fight.
We Georgia kids had no flexible flyer,
So we rounded up whatever we could acquire.
We borrowed the lid from a metal trash can
And pushed the little sister in Mama's dishpan.
With our fingers numb we charged through the door
Tracking up Mama's just-mopped floor.
Her cups of cocoa warmed our insides
And we rushed out the door for one more sled ride.

We've only had a few flurries so far this season.
Wonder if we will have snow in February?

Every good and perfect gift
is from above,
coming down from
the Father of the heavenly lights,
who does not change
like shifting shadows.
James 1:17

Secret Place

Enter into the holy of holies,
Into the secret place of prayer.
Lay down your heavy burdens
For God awaits you there.

Call upon Me, He offers.
Let Me change your heart.
As you behold My glory,
I will cleanse every part.

The cloud of My glorious presence
Hovers over your closet of prayer.
Why run ahead in your frenzy?
Peace and rest await you there.

Let me see things through Your eyes, Lord.
Shine Your love-light from above.
And as it kindles my heart,
Make me a reflection of Your love.

Your Right Hand Shall Hold Me

If I take the wings of the morning
or dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there shall Your hand lead me,
and Your right hand shall hold me.
Psalm 139:9-10

When one of my children was a toddler, and she got tired from walking, she would reach out her hands and ask "You want me to hold you?"

When I read the verse from Psalms, I thought about her tired little legs, and I pictured God's children, when the road gets long, our Father God will scoop us up in His strong arms.
