I've finished the bed!

The bed I was working on the other day is all done and dressed. I am really pleased with the color. I painted it with Martha Stewart Crafts Lake Fog mixed with the same brand Antiquing Medium. It turned out great! I made the box spring and mattress, pillow covers and dressings. I love how it turned out! This bed kit was awesome and it was so much fun to make - easy, too! I wish Daisy House hadn't gone out of business, but if I see more of their kits, I am going to snatch them up! I put this bed in the Glencroft and it's *perfect* there! That's where it will stay. The brass bed was nice, but this is a much better look for this room, I think. :) Now I have to figure out what to do with the brass bed, whether I want to keep it or not. :)

Anyway, on with the pics!

Closeup of the footboard. As you can see, I added some lovely embossed paper to both the headboard and footboard as I built the bed.

Close-up of the pillows! :) I love the fine lace detail.

At home in the Glencroft bedroom. I added Dale's Dreams' pillows which were on the old bed, as well as the cute pajamas I won from Little House at Pine Haven a while back. :) Oh, and of course the teddy bear! :) I really think this fits nicely in this eclectically decorated room.

Home sweet home!

Desk goodies and more!

I was in New Hampshire again today and stopped in at Earth N Tree. It's a great reward for all of the traveling and the field work (which is the reason I go to NH in the first place). I bought some goodies, which I will be sharing as I work on each of the rooms. :)

Tonight I did some work on the desk in the bedroom and added some details, including a trash can with trash. :) I am loving how it turned out.

The Japan magazine, passport, postcards and airline tickets, as well as the typewriter, came from Earth N Tree. I painted the typewriter and added the paper. I made the notebook from cardstock, printer paper, masking tape (colored in with black marker), and a rub-on embellishment.  I want to add pencils, envelopes and a few other details soon. The trash can is a thimble decoupaged with sheer ribbon. I cut off the tip of a finger of a disposable glove to make the plastic liner. I cut out the Doritos "bag" from a newspaper ad and decoupaged it onto a piece of plastic packaging, then crumpled it up. I also added some crumpled pieces of paper and an opened "letter."

Getting the mail today was also very exciting. I ordered from dale's dreams a couple of days ago and received my order when I got back in town today! She's quick!! And she threw in some lovely goodies in addition to the beautiful pillows I ordered. :) I love her stuff and I recommend that you check out her etsy shop (poke the link above) if you are looking for decor for your dollhouse. Her pillows are lovely. :) See for yourself:

Hope everyone is having a lovely day and are feeling inspired! I am sure there's more to come soon. :)

Things I've made tonight...

I tried making my first cupcakes tonight. They're not perfect, but not terrible for my first try. :)
I want to try different flavors and add some toppings in the future, but these were fun to do. The "dish" they are sitting on is a jewelry finding from the craft store.

I also made up some plants for the Glencroft. I had bought a few things from Joann's recently that would make some quick and easy plants.

On the left are some dried ferns which I separated, cut and attached to cloth-covered wire to make a smaller fern plant. On the right are some really cool embellishments I found in the scrapbooking aisle. The top one I hung on the herb shop door to decorate for spring. The one on the bottom was placed into a vase I had on hand. You can see the finished plants below.

Here they are in the Glencroft:

Plants do add some life to a scene.

Currently, I am still working on the details and I am going to focus on the bedroom next. I think I am going to repaint and redress the bed and add some stationery to the desk. I just found a little handpainted chest of drawers in my collection that fits the color scheme in the bedroom.

That's all for now. I am going to be quite busy in the next couple of days, so I don't know how much crafty stuff/blogging I'll get to do, but I am glad I had some time over the last few days to do some artsy stuff. It's a nice relaxing break from the usual...

Glencroft redecorating and finishing

Well...have I been making some progress. I am in the midst of job searching and hoping I get one very soon, but in the meantime, I have been keeping myself busy (and sane) with the Glencroft. I finally decorated the Glencroft bedroom (including dressing the bed, my first one ever!). I also painted the living room walls and added the moulding to the front kitchen wall, between the ceiling beams. For the interior, all I have left are some minor touchups with paint and wood filler (the latter has become my best friend in this process) and adding the front door.

Before I get to the pics, I want to say a word about shingles...I went shopping for shingles on Tuesday, first at Ben Franklin, because I had remembered that they had bags of shingles for a reasonable price. Well when I got there and looked at them, I noted a) their selection was a bit limited and the price wasn't as good as I had thought and b) some of the shingles were in pretty bad shape in the bag. So I grabbed some of the other things that I needed and moved on to the local A.C. Moore, which sells dollhouses and components. Oh boy. They had shingles all right. But for 46.99 for a BAG of 1000. 0______0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously I did not buy shingles there, and I have made a decision to buy them from Tom's Mill/Earth and Tree which is much cheaper and local. Plus they make their own, which makes me happy. I like to give my local miniature shop business when I can anyway. I am going to wait until I am employed to purchase the shingles, and hopefully that will be soon!!

Anyway, here are some pics:
This is the whole bedroom. I papered the sloped ceiling with some awesome scrapbook paper I found at Ben Franklin's...one side was a solid color and the other was textured and you could sand it.
A close-up of the bed... I made the comforter myself. ;) Super easy.
Here, you can kinda see the window seat I made. I LOVE the ribbon I used to cover it. Super-cute. I found it at A.C. Moore for a dollar or so.
The comforter is reversible, but the same pattern on both sides. Underneath, I placed a little flannel blanket. The sheets were made from a satiny handkerchief I had in my stash.
I used ribbon as trim for the sloping walls...this room turned out very "springy."
Just a close-up of the window seat.
I built this shelf above the bed because the wall is a little "wonky" right there. It also adds more storage space.

Now for the downstairs:
In the living room, I painted the walls an off-white color. I also made this tiny bulletin board to go next to, or above, the rolltop desk.
More living room. The window seat downstairs is much simpler than the one upstairs. Just silk-covered padding embellished with some ribbon.
Last, but not least, here are the mouldings I made for the kitchen...it looks a lot better than before.

Thanks for reading! I have a few goodies from the RGT Outliet Store in Barre, VT and a find in a Montpelier bookstore to post about next time! Cheers!
