Progress on the dock

With a little help from his brother and cousin, Greg was able to make more progress on our dock at the log cabin. I'm looking forward to being able to launch my kayak from here instead of driving around to the public launch. (We don't have kayak racks - we just throw them in the back of our SUV and we hang on to the handles while we're driving so they don't slip out. Seriously. I'm surprised we haven't been pulled over!)

Come take a look....

Greg needs to straighten the dock out next weekend and still has one more dock footing to put in.

Here's the Red-winged Blackbird singing to us along the lake path. They love to hang out in the reeds by the lake and sing CONSTANTLY! Geez, I hope they hurry up and get some mates already!

Here we are standing on a completed section of the dock. Look - a better view in which to spy on my neighbors! Ha,ha!

Working on the lake path

Slowly but surely we (well Greg really, I don't have time between hunting for Loons and making fabulous cabin meals!) are clearing the path to get to the lake. Greg purchased some dock footings from a nice gentleman who is on a neighboring lake. In fact he was so nice, he came over and helped Greg stake it. (Thanks B.!)Greg will be building the dock himself. Hmmm.....hmmmmm.....good luck honey!

I can't wait to get Greg's fishing boat in the water. It's driving me crazy seeing it parked in our driveway. I'm having visions that pretty soon we'll have refrigerators and spare tires on our lawn soon if I don't get that boat out of there!

P.S. Want to visit some great blogs? Here are a few of my friends that are well worth the trip! (I got this idea from Wixy who is a great blogger ambassador. Go visit him for sure!)

  1. Want to hear what's going on in the Adirondacks? Then Cedar at Adirondack View is your lady to visit!
  2. One of my newest friends who I'm sure is related to me and makes me laugh out loud - Busy Bee Suz at My Life as a Busy Bee! Don't ask her about the massage she had recently though...
  3. My friend - The Retired One lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I admit - that makes me partial to her! She has lovely photos and funny news stories! And she lives in a log home - a lady after my own heart!

I will profile more blogs in the near future!

Updates at the Log Cabin & a WINNER!

Now that spring is here, it's time to tackle some projects at the log cabin. We want to put in a dock this year and have been checking Craig's List to see if we can find some good deals! Next on our list is landscaping. We are going to do a small portion of it. Greg is building two long flower boxes which I'll show once they are completed. Here are some other happenings...

Here's a Robin who promised me that Spring is now here to stay....

Marvin wants to know when we are going to stain the deck. It's already been a year!

Umm Greg...this isn't WHERE your fishing boat goes!

Now the last order of business! Greg drew April's name ("Straight from the Heart" ) for my final log cabin follower winner!Congratulations to April! Be sure to pay her a visit! She has a wonderful blog filled with beautiful photos, funny stories about being a mom and much more! (April, please email your address to shelleyupnorth at gmail dot com.)

Path to the lake

Due to wetlands between our log home property and the lake, we have to follow DEQ rules for accessing the lake. We are creating a path 75% of the way to the lake with mulch that was created from a storm damaged maple tree. The tree removal service chipped them up for us and hubby has been diligently cutting away the brush. Once he completes the path to the boundary we are allowed, then we have to find a rolling dock system that will enable us to access the lake directly. For now, we've been using the public boat launch for our kayaks and fishing boat. I cannot wait until I can take a dive into the water from my own dock!
