I could not resist the urge to go super thick with color on Beyond the Storm Iris Garden. This painting is dedicated to those who are facing adversity, a loved one in hospital, a fear that a job will not be there tomorrow, a scary medical diagnosis. Three people I care about very deeply are facing each of these scenarios. As a friend, all we can do is be there for those we love, in these tough situations. And so I am there. With love and support to my dear friends. Someday, there will be a time when the storm is behind you. And I'll still be there beside you.

Blue Breeze Daisies is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio - try saying that three times fast, at midnight, after painting until midnight for six nights in a row! Not that I'm complaining, I love my job. And it seems the muses really do prance about at their colorful best at midnight, now why is that I wonder? I often wonder if my normal friends wonder what it is that motivates an artist to quit her "real job" to paint and dabble all day. Life's a Breeze Peonies is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio. Since the day was chilly and slightly wet out, the pugs stayed in the studio with me all day, hunkered down as if they lived in the Alaskan tundra. I love these cozy days in the studio, with all my office helpers snoring and tossing toys around while I work. French Rest Stop is a new sunflower garden in Flower Mound Studio, I was needing some warm color to chase away the winter chill and fused some of my favorite photos from my back yard garden along with my trip to France together to create this little floral-scape. My adirondack chairs are bright blue, so I shifted their color to white so they wouldn't compete with my blue flower beds in the foreground. I'm imagining a nice warm summer day, with temps in the high 90s, and an icy glass of lemonade nearby...

I'm absolutely thrilled and delighted to be featured for the Elegance show for Contemporary Fine Arts International this month! Here's the story behind the image shared - She Wore a White Dress With Roses.
One of my father's favorite stories was about the night he and my mother (who were just courting at the time) went to a dance hall in St. Louis to hear a live band play and dance the night away. My mother worked as a secretary for a law firm and still lived at home with my grandmother and grandfather. Every pay day she would go out and buy herself a new outfit. Read more....

When I saw the little boy hopping up and down at 7 am this morning in my hotel lobby and pointing, I thought maybe he really liked the koi pond here at the Gaylord Palms. Imagine my surprise when I saw what he was really excited about - the resident gators! Fortunately these leathery little guys didn't seem too interested in climbing through the iron bars to munch on the tourists and they even ignored their lazy turtle neighbors. Excuse me, Mister Bellman, there's an alligator in my room.... Note to self, if you hear scuffling on the carpet outside your door, do NOT open the door without your running shoes on.
We painted roses until the seagulls came home in sunny Florida today. Tomorrow we tackle sunflowers and, if they cooperate and open a bit more, some tulips, too!

We hit the flower jackpot in Florida yesterday, my hostess with the most-ess Ann drove me to a warehouse of fresh flowers as soon as I landed in the sunshine state yesterday. On top of that, she failed to restrain me in any way, shape, or fashion, as I tossed fresh peonies, hydrangeas, Japanese iris, daisies, delphiniums, and all sorts of other colorful plants onto our my shopping cart. Oh, and a few new vases, too, (because one can never have too many sparkley vases....). Today we painted hydrangeas until the seagulls came home, and tomorrow we're going to warm up our pink brushs with some lovely roses and peonies. I do so appreciate my flower models. They don't fidget, they don't complain about the bright lights, they don't eat much and never, ever show up for a shoot after partying all night with bags under their eyes. Read more....

True story. The hubby and I were browsing the gourmet cheese aisle at the new Whole Foods near Flower Mound, Texas today. A woman walked by on her cell phone. She had peonies in her basket. I turned to my husband and said in a very, very calm voice: "Honey. They have peonies." He was browsing the olive bar and didn't really hear me. I said in a more serious tone. "HONEY. THEY HAVE PEONIES. I'VE GOT TO GO THE FLOWER SECTION. NOW." I was very proud about what happened next. Read more....

California Blooming Radishes and Hydrangeas was my class demonstration in historic Balboa Park this weekend. I was tickled pink to find the roses were in bloom on Coronado Island, when we visited my favorite cottage garden there after class. This talented group of painters included the largest collection of international students I've ever had in a class. The traveled furthest award went to six students from Singapore, Australia, and Canada, though one of the ladies from Orange County California was pretty certain her commute that morning took longer than a flight from Sydney. We also had painters from Michigan, Alabama, Arizona, New York, Idaho, and across California swinging brushes and making bright color happen. My next California workshop is going to be in....*sound of harps* Sonoma, California! That spring class in one of the most beautiful wine destinations in the US is filling fast so don't delay, I'm reserving a grape with your name on it mon cher! Read more...

It's shocking what happens in Flower Mound Studio after dark sometimes! This scene from my visit to Southern France started out as a perfectly innocent and sedate laundry on the line kind of painting, and then a little breeze kicked up and the slip started some shameless flirting with the shirt and it was all downhill from there. The little dress is clearly trying to give the shirt the slip. At the very least, she's going to show him who wears the pants in the family, while the bystanders were just left hanging out to dry!
I mentioned a few days ago how utterly excited I am to be teaching in the wine country in May, and class is filling fast. Apparently I'm not the only person who's looking forward to sipping some vino while making brilliant colors bloom during the peak of flower season in Sonoma, CA. Purple Spangle Sunflower was my class demonstration in Tennessee last weekend, and I'm packing up again for a workshop in Rockwall, Texas this weekend. I'm excited to announce you can now pre-order my new DVD, Ranunculus and Daisies, for a discounted price. I'm so excited to announce my first workshop in Tuscany, Italy, June 6-13, 2015, Painting Under the Tuscan Sun! Scheduled strategically to coincide with the heart of poppy bloom season, we'll be in the Chianti region of Tuscany. We'll stay in a restored 12th Century monastery, and take excursions to Siena and nearby hillside villages.
