Let's crackle together

Blogger tuntuu taas vaihteeksi kehittäneen jonkun mökötyskohtauksen mua vastaan ja heittelee pelkkiä virhekoodeja mulle kun yritän tallentaa, mutta yritetään saada tämäkin postaus vihdoin ilmoille. Pidempään olen halunnut tehdä vertailua eri crackle lakoista, niiden koostumuksista ja siitä miten ne halkeilevat, joten nyt saatte sellaisen, tosin melko maratonpostauksena.

Kaikki kuvat voi klikata isommiksi ja kaikkiin swatcheihin on käytetty alla kaksi kerrosta OPI:n Ogre The Top Blueta ja päälle kaikkiin identtisen paksuinen kerros crackle lakkaa. Kirjaimet kiekoissa on lähinnä oman muistini helpottamiseksi, mutta jos joku on utelias niin: I = Isadora, C = China Glaze, O = OPI, D = Depend, A = Alessandro, K = Kelier. Ensimmäisenä kuvat täysistä swatch kiekoista. 

Blogger seems to hate me today and it won't let me save any written content without giving me error messages so I hope this post will go live nevertheless. For the longest time I've wanted to do a comparison post of all my crackle polishes but since I have quite a few of them, I never had time to do this on my own nails. Now I figured that this might actually be even better on nail wheels. 

You can click all the pictures and see bigger versions of them. All swatches are done with two coats of the base color (OPI - Ogre The Top Blue) and a semi-thin coat of crackle polish. The letters on the wheels are mostly just for me but if you wanna know: I = Isadora, C = China Glaze, O = OPI, D = Deped, A = Alessandro and K = Kelier. First of all, here are the pics of the complete swatch wheels. 

Mustat / Blacks

Isadora - Black Tag, China Glaze - Black Mesh, OPI - Black Shatter, Depend -  5001, Alessandro - Crash Coat, Kelier -  Black

Mustia lakkoja mulla on selkeästi eniten. Näistä voi huomata kolmea eri tapaa halkeilulle: pieniksi palasiksi halkeilun (Isadora vasemmalla, sekä Depend ja Alessandro, kolmas ja toinen oikealta), pitkittäisiksi suikaleiksi halkeilun (China Glaze ja OPI, toinen ja kolmas vasemmalta) sekä kuivaksi aavikoksi halkeilevan Kelierin lakan. 

Kelier on koostumukseltaan aivan erilainen halkeilija kuin muut ja sitä käytinkin paksumman kerroksen kuin kaikkia muita. China Glazen ja OPI:n pitkittäinen halkeilutapa ei ole mun suosikkini, tosin en tiedä johtuuko tämä siitä, että nämä kaksi lakkaa on paksuuntuneet ennätysvauhtia!

I apparently own total of six different black crackle polishes. You can clearly see three different types of crackles among these. First we have the very fine crackles with the Isadora, Depend and Alessandro polishes (marked with letters I, D and A). Then we have China Glaze (C) and OPI (O) with kinda bar shaped crackles that really follow the brush strokes. The on the right we have Kelier crackle polish that has a completely different formula than the other six and the crackles remind me of dry desert. 

My favorite ones are the small crackles and I dislike the CG and OPI way of crackling. I don't know if it has something to do with the fact that these to have thickened on me faster than any other polish before!

Valkoiset / Whites

Isadora - White Art, China Glaze - Lightning Bolt, Depend - 5000

Näistä huomaa saman kuin mustista, Isadora (I) ja Depend (D) halkeilevat pienempiin palasiin kuin China Glaze (C). Mielestäni näistä huomaa myös sen, että Isadora on pigmenttisempi kuin Dependin hinnaltaan huomattavasti halvempi lakka. 

Here you can see the same that we see with the blacks: Isadora and Depend do leave behind finer cracks than the China Glaze one. You can also see that the Isadora one looks a bit more pigmented that the Depend one. 

Pinkit / Pinks

Depend - 5003, China Glaze - Broken Hearted, Isadora - Masterpiece Pink, Isadora - Pink Bite

Jatkan samaa virttä: China Glaze halkeilee pitkittäin, siinä missä Isadora ja Depend tekevät vähän kuin pieniä kuutioita kynnelle. Tuo oikeanreunimmainen vaaleanpunainen on ehkä suosikki crackleni ikinä. Tykkään siitä, että nää on kaikki vähän eri sävyisiä pinkkejä. 

And once again, China Glaze has the most bar shaped crackles whereas the other ones have small squares on the nail. I like how all of these are different shades of pink (okay, the Depend and China Glaze are kinda close with each other) so it's completely justified to own all of these. 

Siniset / Blues

Täytyykö mun enää edes sanoa...? Sama toistuu näissä kuvissa kuin noissa aiemmissa, mutta tässä huomaa sen, miten Dependin sininen lakka, jossa on shimmeriä, halkeilee isommiksi lohkoiksi kuin muut kaverinsa. 

Do I even have to say anymore...? The one thing that I need to say of this picture is that you can see how the blue Depend leaves behind bigger crackles due to the shimmer that it has.

Merkit / by brand

Isadora

Isadora oli ensimmäinen, joka toi markkinoille tähän buumiin crackle lakat, ja joista todella moni innostui. Alkuperäiseen valikoimaan kuului kuusi lakkaa (musta, valkoinen, keltainen, pinkki, vihreä ja sininen), mutta he täydensivät halikoimaansa neljällä uudella sävyllä (baby pink, baby blue, beige ja ruskea). 

Isadoran pullossa on 6ml tavaraa ja hintaa pullolla on noin 7,90e, tietysti riippuen vähän ostopaikasta. Itse en periaatteesta muuten osta Isadoran lakkoja, koska 8 euroa 6ml pullosta on mielestäni aivan naurettava hinta, mutta erikoislakasta suostun tuon verran maksamaan. Näissä sivellin on ihanan paksu, joten kynnelle saa helposti levitettyä juuri sopivan kerroksen lakkaa. Itselläni nämä eivät ole päässeet paksuuntumaan, vaan ovat pysyneet hyvinä ja halkeilevat aina kivasti. Mielestäni nämä ovat ehdottomasti laadultaan parhaimpia crackle lakkoja, joita tällä hetkellä on markkinoilla. 

Isadora was the first one to start the crackle hysteria (at least in Europe they were). They started with six shades of crackle (black, white, pink, yellow, green and blue) but due to the popularity of the polishes, they released four more shades (baby pink, baby blue, beige and brown). 

The bottle has 6ml of product (0.2 fl. oz) and it costs around 8 euros here. Normally I'm not willing to spend eight euros on 6ml of polish but due to the fact that these are crackle ones, I'm okay with the price. The brush in these is wonderfully big so you'll be able to spread an even coat of the polish on the nail easily. My polishes haven't thickened like some other brands have and I really like how these crackle. I think these are by far the best crackles that I've tried. 

Depend

Toinen suomessa myytävä crackle vaihtoehto on Depend. Kicksissä myytävät Dependin crackled maksavat 3,90e ja pullossa on tavaraa 5ml. Mä en lämpene Dependin lakoille muuten, mutta näiden kanssa oli pakko tehdä poikkeus. Nämä lakat on ihan ok tavaraa, kivoja, mutta itse mielummin maksan sen muutaman euron enemmän Isadorista, joissa kaikissa on kivasti pigmenttiä ja ne tuntuvat halkeilevan tasaisen kivasti. Depend ei kuitenkaan ole huono vaihtoehto Isadoran rinnalle. Värejä tähän linjaan kuuluu tällä hetkellä kuusi (musta, valkoinen, pinkki, punainen, sininen ja violetti). 

Another brand of crackles that is available in Finland is Depend. These cost 3,90 euros each and they have 5ml (I've no idea about the fluid ounces, sorry!) of product. I don't like Depend polishes usually but I had to try because I love crackles. These are okay, they crackle nicely but I still like the Isadora ones better. Depend offers six shades of crackle (black, white, pink, red, blue, and purple). 

China Glaze

China Glaze on yleensä mun suosikkimerkki on kynsilakoista puhutaan, mutta nämä cracklet ei sytytä niin paljoa. Toi tapa, millä nää halkeilee pitkittäin, mutteivät poikittain ei oikein sytytä mua. Nämä maksavat 4 dollarin pintaan + postikulut verkkokaupoissa ja näissä kyllä saa paljon tavaraa (14ml) rahoilleen vastinetta. Toisaalta nämä kyllä tuntuvat paksuuntuvan nopeasti, joten en usko, että kukaan ehtisi käyttää pullollista näitä ennen kuin nämä ovat ihan liisteriä. 

Usually China Glaze is my favorite brand of nail polish but I was really disappointed with the crackles. I don't like the way these crackle and follow the brush strokes and leave behind long bars of crackle. These are around $4 online + shipping and they have 14ml of product (0.5 fl oz) so you get quite a lot of product in these. The other downside to these is that they get quite thick pretty fast so I don't think anyone could be able to use up a whole bottle of these. 

OPI

Black Shatter oli lakka, jota monet on maanisesti etsineet kokoelmiinsa. Itse maksoin tästä muistaakseni $5,75 + postikulut ja olen tähänkin vähän pettynyt. Tämä on paksuuntunut ennätysajassa ja levittyy jo aika kivuliaasti kynnelle. Lisäksi tämänkään pitkittäiset halkeamat eivät ole omia suosikkejani.

Black Shatter was the polish that everyone wanted at the beginning of this year. It was much anticipated and of course I wanted to have my share of the magic. I thought this would be amazing but I'm actually really disappointed with this. It's gotten so thick, so fast, that I can't even believe it. I don't know if I just have a bottle from a bad batch or what's going on, but this has been so far from the usual OPI quality that I'm used to. I'll try some of the other shatter colors from OPI but the black one is just one big mess on me. 

Alessandro

Mulla ei oo mitään hajua, mistä Alessandron tuotteita saa, paitsi omani ostin Sasasta Hong Kongista. Toimii kuin unelma. Kannattaa ostaa jos vastaan kävelee. 

Works like a dream. I got this one from Hong Kong and I've no idea where you could find Alessandro polishes. If you find this, buy it, 'cause it's amazing.

Yhteenvetona: 

Isadorat on mun suosikkeja, ne halkeilevat tasaisimmin ja niiden laatuun voi luottaa. Myös sävyvalikoima on kiva. Lyhimmän korren vetivät ne merkit joihin normaalisti luotan, eli China Glaze ja OPI. 

Toivottavasti tämä auttoi teistä joitain pohtimaan mitä crackleja haluatte... Mitkä (merkit tai sävyt) nousivat teidän suosikeiksi? Onko muuten joku koittanut kynsilakanohennusainetta crackle lakoille. Näissä kun kemikaalien koostumus on erilainen kuin normilakoissa ja pelkään, että ohennusaine saattaisi vahingoittaa näitä jotenkin...

Summary:

The Isadora ones are my favorite. The have the prettiest crackles and the best quality. I dislike the China Glaze and OPI ones the most though I usually trust on the quality of these brands. 

Hopefully this helped some of you. Which ones (brands or shades) are your favorites? By the way, has someone tried nail polish thinner on crackle polishes? I'm not sure if you should use it with crackles and I'm afraid I'll ruin my polish with it... 

ps. after working with this post for over three hours, I know realize that I didn't include the new Models Own crackles in this post. Dammit! Well, I'll write a separate post of those later.

Cracked mint

Tänään tuntui maailman oudoimmalta kaivaa taas kamera esiin, napsia kuvia kynsistä ja ajatellakaan postauksen raapustamista blogiin. Loman aikana sain rentoutua aika paljon ja bloggerin huolehtiessa blogini päivittelystä oli helppo unohtaa edes vähän mitä blogimaailmassa tapahtuu. Nyt tuntuu kuitenkin kivalta päästä taas itse höpöttelemään tänne. Lomani meni hyvin, lapissa tosin tuuli niin paljon, että pääsin kunnolla laskemaan vain yhtenä päivänä, kun tuulen takia huipulle menevät hissit oli melkein joka päivä kiinni. Kokeilin myös siipiäni moottorikelkkailijana, joka päättyi siihen, että lensin kelkan kanssa kyljelleni ja jäin puoliksi sen alle. Paksu pehmeä lumikerros suolla onneksi päästi mut pelkällä säikähdyksellä, enkä saanut edes mustelmia minnekään. Nyt pitäisi palata arkeen (yök) ja Turkuun (jee) selvittelemään ainakin postikasaa, joka epäilemättä odottaa kotona.

Mulla on tällä hetkellä vielä yksinkertaisuus-kynnet: Models Ownin Jaded Stone ja Kelierin musta crackle lakka. Tänään kun pääsen kaikkien koristeideni luokse, toivottavasti myös luovuus puhkeaa kukkaan.

Today I felt so weird when digging out my camera and taking pics of my NOTD. All the posts during last week were timed and I took a whole week off of blogging and my life in general. I went to Lapland to ski and relax and had a great week there. Well, actually, I got into a little accident with snow mobile while riding it. Due to a lot of soft snow, I ended up falling down from the snow mobile and it landed partially on top of me as well. The soft snow saved me and got out of the situation without even scratches, but it was definitely a scary moment to lie partially under the heavy machine trying to figure out if something feels weird. It was fun riding the mobile though!


Today I still have very simple nails: Models Own Jaded Stone with Kelier crackle polish but I hope that tomorrow I have something a little more exciting to show you. 

Bumblebee!

Tämän päivän postaus meenasi jäädä kokonaan tekemättä, ennen kuin tajusin, että pystyisin etukäteen kirjoittamaan mun hienosta värikoordinoinnista, jota harrasti ihan vahingossa. Pidin eilisissä crackle testailuissani mustan ja keltaisen yhdistelmästä, joten päätin käyttää sitä koko kynsillä. Vasta sen jälkeen tajusin, että voin harrastaa kunnon bumblebee-meininkiä kynsieni ja haalareideni kanssa. Kynnet nimittäin mäcthää aika täydellisesti haalareideni kanssa.

Syy siihen, miksi tänään ei olisi postausta tullut on aika iso koko päivän opiskelija tapahtuma, jossa pääsen taas käyttämään haalareitani. Mä rakastan meidän keltaisia haalareita ja sitä, miten ne päällä on aina lupa pitää hauskaa. Mä olen myös ristinyt ne maailman parhaaksi mukavuusvaatteeksi, enkä välillä haluais ottaa niitä pois ollenkaan.

I almost didn't have time to post today before I realised I could write a post before and time it for you for later. I did some color coordinating without even realising, and I just had to show you the results. I liked the Kelier crackle polish so much that I decided to do full mani with it and yellow polish (China Glaze Happy Go Lucky). Later on a realised how well it goes with my overalls.

Now, to completely understand the last sentence, I have to tell you something about local universities, colleges and students here in Finland. Partying is a big part of every student's life, probably in here and in all other countries too. Well, in Finland we have this tradition that students have a set of overalls kinda like constructions worker do have. They look like this  and when attending to different parties, you get new patches to sew on your overalls. They're ugly, I know, but it's a tradition and it's super fun tradition. The color of your overalls depends on what your studying and mine is yellow. It's needless to explain, I love my overalls, I really do.

It's hard to explain but these are a huge thing here in Finland and just wearing them is fun and when you wear them, it's okay to do some stupid things. And by stupid, I mean sing out loud outside when it's 4 pm, not anything stupid like illegal. Usually when going out I wear skirts and stuff like that and these are just about 20 times more comfortable when you don't have to think what you're wearing when having your overalls on. 

I know that was a long and rambly explanation that still probably won't make any sence but still. Tomorrow we have this big event for all the students in my city (I live in a city of almost 200,000 people so you can just guess how many students we have). Not everyone is participating of course but it's still gonna be big. I get to wear my overalls after a long time and my nails magically match with my clothes now. 

I'm sorry if this was a long and boring post but I didn't wanna leave this just to be in Finnish. 

Kelier crackle nail polish review

Jatketaan vielä Bornpretty-tuotteilla. Niin kuin sanoin, pahoittelen, jos hukutan teidän näihin arvosteluihin eri tuotteista, mutta haluan saada nämä nyt suht samaan aikaan pihalle, jotta jos joku pohtii tilaamista, tietää ainakin mitä mieltä yksi ihminen on tietyistä tuotteista.

Seuraavaksi heluan kertoa tuotteesta, jonka kanssa ei oikein kaverustuttu ollenkaan, ennen kuin vasta tänään iltapäivällä sain lakan vihdoin toimimaan niin kuin pitää. Kyseessä on Kelier merkin crackle-lakka, ja kaikkihan jo tietävät mitä mieltä minä näistä crackleista olen. Olin erityisen innoissani tämän lakan johdosta, koska tämä kuivuu kiiltäväksi ja crackleilee eri tavalla kuin esimerkiksi Isadoran, OPIn ja Dependin cracklet. Tässä on jännä kuiva aavikko fiilis, vähän tähän malliin.

Meidän rakkaustarina ei todellakaan lähtenyt vaivattomasti käyntiin. Tahdoin tottakai iskeä tätä silloisten kynsien päälle heti kun sain tämän. Tuloksena minuutti kuivumista, olemattomia halkeiluja, kädet kerran hiusten lävitse ja lakka oli kadonnut hiutaleina pois kynneltäni. Mitä helvettiä? Uusi yritys seuraavana päivänä... sama lopputulos.

Tajusin, että tämän kanssa on äärimmäisen tärkeää, että tämän levittää tuoreen lakkauksen päälle, eikä päivän vanhojen kynsien, joiden pinnalla on varmasti jos jonkinlaista likaa ja öljyä. No, aloitin tänään kokonaan alusta. Aloitin testaamisen lakkaamalla joka kynnen eri värillä ja käytin sekä creme, shimmer, että glass flecked lakkoja. Kärsimättömänä annoin monen lakkakerroksen kuivua pari minuuttia ennen kuin lätkäisin tämän päälle. Tulos oli tämä:

Ei täysin kaamea... mutta kuitenkin todella kaamea. Halkeillessaan lakka veti alla olevia kosteita kerroksia mukanaan ja lopputulos oli kauniin kumpuileva. Tällä kertaa crackle lakka pysyi jo kynnellä ja koska pidin halkeamista, olin päättänyt keksiä miten tämän saa toimimaan.

Lakat pois taas kerran ja uudet tilalle. Mahdollisimman ohuita kerroksia ja 20 minuuttia kuivattelua ennen crackle lakkaa. Lopputulos näytti tälläiseltä:

Harmaiden hiuksien ja hampaidenkiristelyn jälkeen vihdoin keksin, miten tätä tulee käyttää oikein, eli alle tuore lakkaus, joka on saanut hetken kuivua ja crackle-lakka päälle.

Tämänkin kanssa pystyi hiukan pelaamaan sen suhteen millaiset cracklet haluat saada. Etusormi ja peukalo saivat vahingossa ohuemman kerroksen crackle lakkaa ja halkeamat ovat todella pieniä ja hienoja. Muille sormille levitin taas hiukan paksumman kerroksen lakkaa ja halkeamat olivat suurempia ja pohjaväri pääsee paremmin esille. Tämä ei ala halkeilemaan ihan yhtä nopeasti kuin suomesta saatavilla olevat crackle lakat, joten tämän kanssa saa hiukan aikaa myös levittää tasaisin kerroksen.

Pidänkö tästä? Pidän kovasti. Ostaisinko itse? Ostaisin ehdottomasti. Kannattaa vaan varautua siihen, että tämän kanssa saattaa joutua tekemään vähän testailuja ennen kuin saa tuloksesta juuri sitä mitä haluaa.

Let's move on with some other Bornpretty products. I'm sorry if you're already tired of these posts but I just wanna get these all out soon so that if someone is planning on ordering something from there, they would at least know my opinion on some of the products. 


The next thing I have for you is the Kelier crackle nail polish. I was really excited about this one because the crackles are so much different than the ones that I get from my previous crackle polishes. This reminds me of a dry desert just like this.


My love story with this polish started out pretty roughly. I got this over a week ago and I wanted to try it out over my current mani immediately. Well, I applied a coat over one nail and waited for several minutes. I didn't get crackles at all and after brushing my hand through my hair, the polish had flaked off completely. Didn't go too well. The same thing happened the next day when I tried it again over a day old mani. Well, in conclusion, this doesn't work with old polish.


Today I had time to try it out again. This time I did colorful skittles to show you the polish over several different colors and finishes. Impatient as I was, I applied the crackle polish over pretty wet polish and here's the results:

It's not complety horrible... except that it is. The crackle polish dragged some of the not completely dry polish from underneath with it and the finished look was bumpy, clumpy and weird-looking. 


I was determined to get this polish to work with me because I really liked the crackle effect that it gives so I started all over again. This time I did super thin coats of the color polishes and waited about 20 minutes for them to dry. Then I applied a coat of the crackle polish and this is how it looked:

Much better, right? This time I got it to work with me instead of working against me. It definitely took some time, but I think it was worth it. The finish that you get is pretty unique (I think the BYS crackle polish gives you somewhat same type of finish though) and I like it a lot. You can also play with the amount of polish that you use. On my index finger and thumb I have pretty thin layer of polish on, and the crackles are almost minimalistic. The rest of my nails have bigger crackles due to thicker layer of polish. 


Do I like this polish? Absolutely. Would I buy it with my own money? Absolutely. Just remember to have a little patience with this polish and try it out before doing full on manicures.
