Pooch's Painting- May

Ok, so this is super late, and I am not even going to try and make up an excuse.

Instead, I will distract you with pretty pictures, like...

These ones of additions to my Bolt Action German army!

Rubicon StuG G/StuH and a Warlord Marder III

This marder is simply lovely, such a good kit.

Warlord Motorbike and flamethrower team, as well as an Early Panzer III

Just the thing for invading Russia.... Unless you encounter a KV-1!

Initially, I disliked this model when I saw it online. Little did I realize how much I would enjoy painting the flames....

Every German army needs a BMW. This is fact.
So some cool wee additions to my Germans, adding in a few elements to let me do a more early war army, as well as some great late war elements! I think my Germans are more or less done at present, there is nothing I have a burning desire to add (I am sure someone will remind me that I don't have x and I just have to rush out and buy it...)

Sticking with Bolt Action, I have finished the fourth BA army for this year- US Rifles!

The whole horde
Black Tree Miniatures 57mm gun

Bazooka team

The Forward Air Controller showing off his sweet shoulder decal. Next time I think shoulder decals are a good idea, I have instructed my wife to slap me.

A standard issue GI with his standard issue Garand rifle

My sniper team, safely returned from the clutches of Tom's Lt Grohling. Which really means that I left him behind last time Tom and I had a game!

Prone guy with a BAR.

And another GI with Garand, this time showing off his Big Red One unit patch- again another decal.
On to the tanks...

The whole motor pool- Sherman and Stuart you have seen before with the US paras I painted

Rubicon M8 Greyhound- There was something fitting about naming a poxy armoured car after a barbarian...

And the same kit, just with a different top hatch to make and M20.

One of my personal favourite armoured vehicles, the M10 Tank Destroyer!

Same Rubicon kit, but with the M36 Jackson turret on top

Two Warlord Games halftracks, one with a 50, the other with an 81mm Mortar

Close up on the M24 mortar crew
So there it is, BA army number four! Overall, I am really happy with them. I am on the look out for some crew for the M10/Greyhound/Scott, but other than that, I think the army is more or less complete!

Lastly, this month I completed some Warlord Games Special Forces troops for their Project Z game. I decided to build them as a unit of the "Not Russian" Green Men from the Ukraine. Overall, I wasn't that impressed with the kit, but am happy to have them done (you can read more of what I thought here if you are curious).

7 man fireteam with NCO, RPG, RPK and some AKs

Close up on the NCO

One of the riflemen
So that was 7 of the 8 figures, so the final figure I converted to being my take on the Punisher, from the latest run of comics. Who better to do your zombie killing than him?

Anyway, that is it for this month, see you for the half yearly round up in a few weeks!

Deepest Darkest....

I have just finished my school holidays and I have spent most of my modelling time knee deep in a really cool terrain project. Colin at Skirmish Sangin asked me to build some African Terrain for a new expansion to Radio Dishdash's Skirmish game called Skirmish Afrika. Here is a link to their blog if you want to find out more about the game here
My centre piece is this jungle bar. This took a while to build but I now have the deck and pillars all straight and solid. A corrugated Iron removable roof is also part of this structure. It is a nice clear space to fight around so I have added some tables for things to hide behind.
I have also created some jungle bases and scatter, some fences, roads and a couple of out buildings.

This has been an extremely enjoyable project and one I hope works well for Skirmish Afrika. As part of what I am doing for Colin, I am also writing a "How Do..." Article, so once published I will link that into this blog.

Pooch's Painting- March Part One!

Goodness, three months, it is a whole quarter of the year gone!

I am cranking through the painting, managing to finish a number of big (ish) projects this month.

First, something small. Two units of AWI British Light Infantry for our big Blackpowder game over Easter. The Light Infantry performed in my usual style, being over aggressive and consequently being wiped out. So... that was fun!

Look at us all in a nice line

Next up, we have my Aleph force for Infinity. Prinny will attest that I bought these off him last year, or maybe the year before- regardless I got them through the magpie grapevine!

The Infinity Aleph models have a very cartoonish-anime style, alongside some very Greek names. My inspiration for the robots in the army came directly from the movie Chappie, (blue and orange). Once I had them sorted, I was a touch stuck on what to do with the human models. The anime style heads just weren't doing it for me, so I set off on a magical journey across the internet to find some I liked. Anvil Industries provided me with some awesome looking futuristic helmeted heads, which I then applied the tried and true NASA spacesuit colour scheme too!

And the results? Turns out I quite like painting orange....

The whole Aleph force as it currently stands

Achilles- I went with a dark "black-ops" style for him

Nagas, showing off the orange

Chappie?

I managed to paint something from the cupboard of sad and unloved model kits. This time, it is a patrol of Irish (converted Radio Dish Dash ANZACs) and their UN landrover, replete in it's dazzling white paint scheme.

jeez- how neat is that lettering?

Not as neat as the other side....
On to Page 2.... for Bolt Action and Impetus!

Pooch's Painting: January

Well, it is only a week late, but here is what I managed to finish last month:

Bolt Action US Paras

I have had these guys painted for a while now (like... 4 months maybe?) but I hadn't based them up. So in January I based them all and painted up the 57mm AT gun and the M5A1 Stuart/M8 Scott to complete the army.

Rubicon M8 Scott

And the same tank, just with the Stuart turret- excellent work by Rubicon!
 Team Yankee 6mm US

The whole force
My 6mm was previously painted in an all over desert scheme for Desert Storm era gaming, so to fit in better with Team Yankee, I decided to repaint it all into NATO 3 tone camo. Now, this isn't anywhere close to all of the 6mm I own, but rather this is just everything which I can use from the Team Yankee book, once Bradley's etc are made available in the rules, I will give them a repaint too!

My US is made up of three companies, two tank companies in M1A1 Abrams, and a Mechanised company in M113 APCs. Supporting them is M109 artillery, ITOW vehicles, mortar carriers and Vulcan AA guns. As well as the air support of 2 A10, 2 FA-18 (subbing in as A-10s), 2 AH-64 (subbing in as Cobras) and 2 AH-1 Cobras.

Objective #2
In Her Majesty's Name

The whole warband
Well, I said that I was a magpie, and this warband is definitely proof of that! When IHMN came out, I bought this set and promptly played one game, and have never touched them since. So, as part of my "finish stuff this year you lazy git", I decided to actually finish them!

In the interm, I think they will make a good frostgrave band actually (Necromancer? Either the Mummy is a zombie, or a construct I think).

You know if you are in matching red robes, you are definitely the good guys.
The big bad guy himself

Close up on the big bad's tattooed skull. I used a fine pen to draw on the tattoos.

Mummy!

What a dramatic pose. And a scary looking assassin....
From the cupboard....
Right, lastly we have the completed models from the cupboard. This time it is two Wiesel light tanks in 1/56 scale, produced by Company B. These are pre-production versions, and are actually 3d printed. My only tip with the material is to clean it before you paint it. Twice! I had some issues where I hadn't cleaned the mould release well enough, and it did funny things to the paint. Anyway, two 1/56 scale armoured weapons carriers (they really aren't tanks)- with a 28mm soldier for scale. Can you believe they fitted two (on the 20mm) or three (on the TOW) crew into these?

Without a scale reference, these could look very imposing!

With a scale reference, you realize how you can fit two into the back of a CH-53....
Not a bad spot of painting for a month! I can promise you that there won't be this much everytime, as I will only be showing off things that I have finished. Just in case you were getting your hopes up...

Oh, the other thing I painted was a boat! Right, back to the painting table. February's painting involves so much red.....
