I love starting a new year. I love that feeling of starting over that I feel January 1st. I also love the idea of New Years resolutions; but that love usually only lasts a month (ok a week) until I lose motivation and forget about my goals.
This year seems different though. For the first time in maybe forever (ok at least the last 5 years) I actually have time to improve myself. I don't have school, teaching, a brand new baby, ect, ect. I have more "me" time than I probably will ever have for at least the next 20 years and I am determined to work on "ME" while I can.
Rob and I have been talking about resolutions the last few days and he told me something that has really changed my perspective on resolutions. Rather than working on/setting "what" goals, focus on the "how". For example: rather than making a goal to lose 20 lbs (not an actual goal of mine) one might make a goal to exercise 6 times a week and eat a big green salad every day.
I think we often get in the habit of setting goals without telling how we will get there. This year, instead of setting "what" goals, I'm focusing on the "how". How am I going to be the person I want to be, how am I going to make the changes I need to, how am I going to improve myself. I feel more motivated than I ever have been in my entire life.
And it only helps that Rob made me this super cool tracking sheet. The boxes even turn green when you've reached your goal for that week in a specific area. That's pretty much motivation on its own. If you ask nicely, he might make one for you too.
