MINATURES-V/A, PIPE RECORDS, LP, 1980, U.S.A

minatures

V/A- Miniatures
1980. Pipe records
A sequence of 51 tiny masterpieces edited by Morgan Fisher. Amazing collection of mostly British composers and sound explorers. Everything from abstract poetry, jazz, experimental, avant-rock and more. It's impressive to see the amount of creativity these artists back into a 1-minute (or less) piece. You can hear them having fun with the work and doing things they are not normally used to doing, full spectrum of composition, sound and explorations. Each track is wonderfully commented on by label owner and project producer Morgan Fisher. Stand out tracks for us were Andy Partridge, The Work, Fred Frith (who squeezes pieces from every Henry Cow song into a power mash up piece!) Metabolist, The Residents & Mary Langford.

Being fans of Man is The Bastard this surprising little self released single from NYC was quite the treat. not quite power violence per say but some serious self infliction based noise/sinking body synth mayhem! white noise whiplash? a 2 piece group with a no holds bar approach to clearing out the room ala early Suicide! live at cbgb's and the building. wish we could have been to either show.
"a shock to the body, a shock to the mind!" attack the body with ocillating waves? hell yes!
