More evidence of squirrels

It's really amazing how well a grey animal disappears into the brown leaves.  It's actually easier to see the one on the grey tree than it is to see the one on the ground.

Furry fellow

These squirrels are galloping all over the place.  This one had just been raiding the neighbour's trash can.  He 'hid' a pizza crust on my window sill and then raced through the front garden to reach the safety of this tree.  He is about 10 feet high.  I stand over 6 feet high.  This makes him a bit nervous, but I moved slowly enough that he didn't try to leap into the street to escape.  These are about the last green leaves left anywhere on the street.  I expect them to be gone within the week.

The birds!

The birds came for a visit to scrounge through the grass to see what they could eat. They keep clear of the squirrel who apparently has the same idea. This is about how far apart the houses are in my neighbourhood.

Squirrel at my window

I was sitting at the computer wondering what to post for today when the answer presented itself in the form of this grey squirrel leaping up onto the window sill. They seem particularly active today; the weather has turned chilly and it seems to have stimulated their gathering instinct.

Early morning forager

The leaves are all off this maple tree, but the seeds aren't, and the squirrels are out in force. It's pretty amazing how well they hang onto the branches and eat at the same time. It's sort of crazy to stand under them and have the discarded maple wings fall down all round you.
