15mm DBA Lysimachid Army

The club is seeing a bit of renewed interest in DBA and opted for a c. 300BCE period for armies to take part in a mini tournament.  I bought a couple of armies from Museum Miniatures, this one, a Lysimachid army and another Scythian army which is in the pipeline.

The Lysimachids came with 4 bases of Phalangites (pike), 3 bases of Hoplites (Spear), a general's base of knights, a light horse base and three bases of psiloi.  I added some extras, 2 bases of auxilia (Bulgarian) spearmen (Ax4) and two of Thracians (Ax3) plus another Psiloi of Thracians, an elephant with tower and a pack of mules for a baggage base.  Gives me enough bases for the early and late Lysimachid periods with several options within each period.

The whole army.

War elephant, hoplites and Bulgarian auxilia.

Phalangite pike blocks, hoplites, General/Knights and Psiloi.

Baggage train, Thracian light auxilia, light horse and Psiloi.

A quick paint to get them in action as soon as possible, ready for the tourney in November.

Thanks for looking.

Progress update May 2023

Varied progress over the bank holiday weekend.

Nine of the Perry 28mm Afrika Korps figures painted and based, photographed here drying in the sunshine.  As an added bonus, I was rummaging through the stash and came across a sprue of Warlord DAK figures - I think from a copy of Wargames Illustrated.  Bonus additional 6 figures, which I've assembled and started to paint (no photos as yet).

With the 3D printer behaving itself at the moment, I scaled up some Bergmann jeeps from 15mm to 20mm and added some SHQ crews.  Two US recce jeeps with .50 cals.  One British para recce jeep and a para transport jeep.  Still have another para recce jeep and regular British jeep crew to work on.

Started back before Christmas, these 15mm M151 jeeps from QRF just needed varnish and basing.  Dried in a matter of minutes in the afternoon sun and simple static grass on base.  Two recoilless rifles and two TOW armed jeeps.  Suitable for 60's through 80's.  I just need some M151s with a recce HMG variant.  They might even make it on the table in AK47 games, or as Indo-Pak or Arab-Israeli wars forces.

Finally, for now, I got around to finishing the batch of 20mm figures I ordered at Christmas during the Elhiem sale.  These are a pack of random Middle Eastern insurgents and a pack of RPG armed insurgents.

I finished these pretty much as my Not Going to Salute sale order from Elhiem arrived on the doorstep.

As ever, thanks for looking.

15mm Cold War Special Forces

Battlegroup Northag and the Centag supplement both have roles for small special forces detachments.  I painted up a pack of Peterpig SAS from their modern African Wars range and a pack of Spetsnaz from Quickreactionforce.

Below are the QRF Spetsnaz in their Sun Bunny all in one hooded suits in faded green with sand coloured blebs.  Variously armed with AKs, RPGs and PKMs, they look the part when painted up.

I'm not sure what the chap rear right is doing, but his comrades are using their AK, PKM and sniper rifle.

More AKs, PKMs and an RPG.

Then from Peterpig, some western special forces.  I've painted these as SAS, although they work fine as Marine Force Recon, Green Berets, or any other NATO recce unit.  Difficult to be sure at this scale, but they look to be armed with M16s for the most part with assorted UGLs

I have some 3D printed Volkswagen camper vans and assorted Gaz jeeps or minibuses to carry the Spetsnaz into battle or Landrovers for the SAS, Hum-Vees or M151s for the US, assuming they arrive by road - airdropped and they have to hike into position.

Thanks for looking.

More 15mm WW2 3D prints

Some more 3D prints based on Bergman and Tigerace1945 stl files.  All need decals to finish them off.

Cromwell platoon with Challenger.  I already have a Battlefront Cromwell platoon with Sherman Firefly, so will at some point do another Challenger and a Firefly to make both platoons suitable for Normandy and Germany and the Low Countries.

The Challenger (two views).

One of the Cromwells (again two views).

A pair of Archer SPATs with Skytrex tank crew figures.

The business end of the Archers.

A Stug 33b SPG  (two views).

A zug of beute S-35 tanks (with Becker added commander cupolas).

A zug of beute Renault FT-17s.  Maybe useful for anti-paratrooper duties but way past their best in 1944.  Still armoured support is still armoured support.

Lots more 3D prints to work on.  Sadly, the printer prints far faster than I can paint, so I'm giving it a little rest at the moment - it has been somewhat hammered the last few months.

As ever, thanks for looking.

15mm WW2 British desert vehicles

More of Bergman's STL files, this time for the desert war.  All need decals to finish them.

A Dorchester ACV.

Bedford MW 15cwt trucks, an MWC water carrier on the left and an MWR radio communications truck on the right.

Another view of the Bedfords, MWR on left and MWC on right.  I'll add some regular trucks as infantry transports for the desert army and for the NW Europe British.

Austin Tilly light van.

A pair of jeeps, one open, one canvas covered.

Jeeps again.

I printed off some Dingos, a troop of M3 Honeys and a pair of Bishops to fill some gaps in the British ranks for the desert war.  More on those later.

Thanks for looking.

15mm WW2 US vehicles 3D printed

Most of these are Bergman STL files from Thingiverse, possibly with one or two from Tigerace1945.  Pictures haven't come out too well here - lots of reflections.

Three jeeps, can't remember where the armoured jeep STL file came from.

Dodge staff car.  One of Bergman's 1:200 offerings scaled to 1:100, so not as detailed as others.

Dodge ambulance, again an upscaled 1:200 model.

An M4A3E2 Jumbo assault tank - uparmoured Sherman.

A pair of M4A3E8 (easy 8s) to make my Sherman platoons more suitable for 1945.

All need decals adding, especially allied stars and US vehicle numbers, plus I'm sure the tanks will be named at some point.

Thanks for looking.

15mm Early War Germans

Over the last couple of years, I've been gradually picking up the makings of an early war German force in 15mm, mainly PSC for the infantry and some vehicles, as well as Zvezda for a quite a few of the vehicles.  The vehicles are all painted the same way, in Vallejo grey violet, with a panzer blue filter applied.  Decals are all I94 from Pendraken/Minibits purchased at shows.

First up, two troops of Pz IIs from Zvezda.

One of the Pz II troop commander vehicles.

Next, a troop of Pz IIIEs with 37mm guns, suitable for Poland and France.

A troop of PzIIIFs with 50mm gun but no improved armor.

A troop of Pz IIIGs with 50mm guns and extra mantlet armor.

A troop of Pz IVDs

A pair of Pz IVF1s.

A troop of Pz IVF2s

Overall command Panzer III in Pz IIIF.

Recce troop of Sdkfz 222s.

Sdkfz 232 heavy recce vehicle.

Sdkfz 231 recce vehicle.

A pair of Sdkfz 250/1 with an Sdkfz 250/10 recce platoon leader's vehicle.

Marder II SPAT.

Kubelwagen with 2 man artillery spotter team.

Marder III with ex-Soviet 7.62cm AT gun.

Battery of three Stug IIIE.

Two troops of three Pz38t - a mix of PSC and Zvezda.

Troop commander's Pz38t

Troop commander for the second Pz38t troop.

Rommel himself, this the Battlefront/Flames of War version.

A 3D print version of the Befehlspanzer I.

A 3D print version of the 150mm Sig33 infantry gun mounted on a Panzer I, crew spares from various Marder variants.

A pair of Battlefront Tiger Is.

An infantry zug from the PSC Early War German infantry box, which gives enough figures for three zugs and a company command section.  Here formed as three 10 man squads (including a three man MG34 team) and a six man command squad.

The command figures.

An infantry squad.

Another squad.

Two man 50mm mortar team.

Three man 8cm mortar team.

Two man AT rifle team.

Three man tripod mounted MG34 team in the sustained fire role.

PAK36 with three crew.

75mm infantry gun with three crew.

I still have two infantry platoons to work up and will eventually motorize a platoon in Opel Blitz trucks and Gepanzert another in Sdkfz 251s, as well as adding some softskin tows and possibly an 88mm gun or two.  These should work well for BG Blitzkrieg and Barbarossa scenarios (and Stalingrad), but I also plan to mix in some later vehicles and weapons from my DAK or late war collections for BG Kursk era scenarios.

As ever, thanks for looking.
