She Died Real Pretty

She Died Real Pretty were a five-piece screamo/emoviolence band from Derry, New Hampshire that were around from 2005 to 2006. They only put one EP, which came with a bonus CD-R that consisted of demos, both of which are included separately below. They almost released a split with iwrotehaikusaboutcannibalisminyouryearbook, which you can read more about a find a rip of over at This Endless Breath. Sonically, they played the kind of frantic and throat-scorching screamo that will appeal to fans of bands like Orchid and Usurp Synapse. Since they disbanded, one of their guitarists has remained active, going on to play in Alessa and New Forms. There was also renewed interest in this band last year, when their track "Industry Sets In" was prominently included as a sample on Don Toliver's "Tore Up". Enjoy.

Casper Elgin

Casper Elgin were a five-piece emo band from New Hampshire that were around from 2014 to 2016. They played a punchy and energetic version of midwest emo with tons of twinkly riffs. It's the kind of thing that would appeal to fans of bands including You Blew It!, Grown Ups, or Dowsing. Their discography is pretty minimal, with just a demo, split, and a cover of Last Christmas, which at least makes this post pretty timely. "you'll be better someday" off of the demo is a particularly fantastic track, so I highly recommend checking that out. Enjoy.

Deer Leap

Deer Leap are a four-piece emo/post-rock band from Windham, New Hampshire that formed in 2009. The name is probably already recognizable from the incredible split they put out with TWIABP a few years ago. Somehow they've slipped under my radar and gone without a post of their own for years now, which is truly criminal. These guys are an incredible band, who take the Explosions In The Sky side of post-rock and combine it with only the best of the best of modern emo bands, particularly Empire! Empire! (If I Was A Lonely Estate). They put out a new (and fantastic) full-length a few months ago which I somehow managed to let go unmentioned until now, but should definitely be invested in for ANY fan of modern emo. Enjoy.

Youth Funeral

Youth Funeral are a four-piece screamo band from New Hampshire that formed in 2013. They were formed by Raph from Old Gray, though the similarities between the two bands aren't incredibly prominent. For one, Youth Funeral are very chaotic, and even more relentless. They pump out dark, crushing riffs, with only the odd hint of clean melody, and are accompanied by gut-wrenching, pained vocals. They've pulverized through two EP's and a split so far, and I can't say much more besides definitely give them a try. If you're a fan of screamo, hardcore, aggressive music or whatever, Youth Funeral are a band that should be on your radar. Enjoy.

Trap Them

Trap Them are a four-piece hardcore/grindcore/metal band from New Hampshire, New England and Seattle, Washington. They formed in 2002 but didn't become fully active until 2006. Since then, they have been annihilating album after album. They've worked with labels such as Deathwish, Southern Lord, and Prosthetic, which is a sign that they've earned their place as one of the most noteworthy hardcore/metal bands in the last few years. A new album just dropped which definitely shows no sign of them slowing down. If you are looking for a chaos with a pulsating, beast-like intensity, Trap Them is exactly what you want to hear. Especially if the metal aspects of bands like Entombed or the hardcore leanings of bands such as Cursed appeal to you. Trap Them fit perfectly in both worlds, and seamlessly blend them together (not that there's a ton of difference, but they certainly have different aesthetics). Update: They have played their last shows as of 2017. Let this serve as a headstone to this incredible band. Enjoy.

Old Gray

Old Gray are a three-piece emo/screamo/post-hardcore band from New Hampshire that formed in April 2011. The lovely gents that comprise this wonderful group are Cam (vocals, guitar, bass), Raph (vocals, guitar, bass), and Charlie (vocals, drums), in addition to numerous other collaborators. Since their formation, they've been quite prolific and progressive. They started out as a noodle-y, Snowing-esque band with mild screamo tendencies and lots of gang-vocal sing-alongs, as heard on their demo. However that's the only thing they've done with that sound. On subsequent albums, they've expanded their sound by making the screamo/emo (not the "twinkly" kind or whatever you want to call it) aspect more prominent, especially in the vocals, dynamics, and, guitar parts. They also incorporate elements of post-rock and spoken word, making them all the more diverse. Their lyrics are also I don't know, they are just a REALLY good band, and easily one of my favourites currently around (I suppose I say that for a lot of bands, but it's particularly applicable in regards to Old Gray). So yeah, I highly suggest you check everything out if you haven't already, and do what you can to support them. You're welcome.
