The Comic-Con Experience
I'm back from San Diego Comic-Con!
It was crazy, crowded and ridic... But I love it. Love it. It's always a great time. I get to see friends from all over, meet readers and Twitter followers and make connections.
While it's a geek's holiday, it's also a hot ass mess at times. Let me share with you my experience at Comic-Con.
- It's about 4 days of madness. I get into town on Preview Day, which used to be a peaceful day before the flood of nerds. But now, it is an invasion. More folks are here on Preview Day and it's not pretty. The lines are packed, exclusive items are sold out and floor is too difficult to walk on.
- The panels are truly worth it... Well, the educational ones. I learned a lot about writing scripts and how to get published. It was the spark I needed to get my ass in gear.
- Cosplayers are no joke. I appreciate the work they put into their costumes.
- Hall H... They need to really rethink the organization of the room. Folks sleep on the sidewalk to get inside that room. Then, once they get inside, they become squatters. They will sit in there all damn day. So if you didn't camp out, you don't get in. It's so ridic.
- Their food options are horrid. Nachos, Pretzels, flat burgers and dry pizzas... No Ma'am!
- You can see celebrities in the studio booths. It's kind of cool to see them in a nerd environment.
- I walked 10 miles in 2 days a the con.
- I went to the Black Panel where I saw Cree Summer and Erika Alexander. They are still beautiful women.
- Comic-Con is also a networking event. I took full advantage of that, meeting writers, producers and publisher. Again, I got to get my ass in gear.
- It's funny and sad to see the Gaslamp area gouge their prices for Comic-Con; mostly the parking. A spot that is normally $12 becomes $60 for the con. It sucks that San Diego allows this.
- I realized that I rather stay at the Hotel Circle vs downtown. It's not worth it. Better to stay at the Hotel Circle, where they don't charge you for parking and you are away from the crowded restaurants.
- I don't mind the crowds, but I hate walking like a zombie up and down the exhibit hall.
- I didn't get much sleep... Maybe 5 hours tops.

Comic-Con 2013 Recap
So, another Comic-Con is done. It was really fun this year and I didn't overspend. I'm learning how to do this fiscally now.
The hustle of this event never gets old and it was a bad ass experience. Let's me share with you the biz.
- The goal was to get the Glitter 'N Gold Jem doll and let me tell you, it was not easy. In fact, I waited over 4 hours in line to get her. Then, it got really interesting because I was trying to get 2 of them, however the limit was one. So, this cute geek helped me out by getting the second one for me. I also helped him by giving him a kiss (jk) I got him a Boba Fett figure.
- I met a few people who follow me on Twitter and Facebook. One guy could actually tell me about all the Wonder Woman posts I wrote.
- It was super crowded this year. Tons of people.
- I saw two students I mentored over the years. One from Murray State and one from USC.
- I watched the Agents of SHIELD pilot. It's going to be awesome!
- I love working the PRISM Comics booth, it's truly a great experience to be around LGBT comics and creators.
- The Gaslamp area in San Diego never seems to be prepared for Comic-Con.
- Over 2,000 people camp out overnight to see 1 minute film clips. Just think about that for a minute.
- Preview Night, should be called Hasbro Night because everyone goes to the Hasbro toy booth on Preview Night.
- I'm not feel the Superman/Batman film. Where's Wonder Woman?
- Gay geeks are truly amazing.
- The Gays in Comics panel wasn't as good as it could've been. A couple of egos spoiled the whole bunched.
- The Comic-Con staff needed more training. They never seemed to know what was going on.
- There were a lot of writers panels that are really good.
- Packing your own lunch is key.
- The best times to walk the floor is on Sunday after 4.
- Celebs love to drink.
- I am tired.

Interesting Quote: Harrison Ford
His views on Orson Scott Card's views on gay marriage:
“I think his views outside of those that we deal with in this film are not an issue for me to deal with, so I have really no opinion on that issue. I am aware of his statements admitting that the question of gay marriage is a battle that he lost, and he admits that he lost it. I think we all know that we’ve all won, that humanity has won. And I think that’s the end of the story.”source

Special Edition JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Doll to be available at Comic Con
I'm SO EXCITED about this! A company called, Integrity Toys has stuck a deal with Hasbro to release a special line of JEM dolls!
The first release will be Hollywood Jem and it will be available at Comic Con, so you already know, I'm getting one!
Here's some of the press release:
Integrity Toys, Inc., under license from Hasbro, Inc., today announced a brand-new series of high-end collectible fashion dolls based on the 1980's ground breaking animated series JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS, launching at 2012 Comic-Con International in San Diego.I can't wait to see what else they have in store. The Stingers, Jacqui Benton, Regine Craig Phillips! Again, I'm so excited!
Inspired by the "TRULY OUTRAGEOUS" characters created by Hasbro over two decades ago and cherished by fans and collectors alike ever since, this nostalgic retro doll line is designed to pay homage to both the animated series and its original companion doll line, originally marketed from 1985 to 1987. Created for fans by fans of the rock 'n shock pink haired pop-culture icon and her outrageous world, this classic commemorative line will feature the high-end details, quality accessories and ultra-limited edition sizes that fans of Integrity Toys have come to appreciate through the years.
This first doll in this exciting commemorative collection will be JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Special Edition Doll: HOLLYWOOD JEM, one of the most requested animated-based looks. This doll will be available for purchase at the HasbroToyShop booth #3329 during Comic-Con International in San Diego at an approximate retail price of $125 and following the convention, at WWW.HasbroToyShop.com.

Gay Marriage Issue of Kevin Keller will be a San Diego Comic Con Exclusive!
Archie Comics will be offering a reprint of the iconic gay marriage issue of Kevin Keller.
Bleeding Cool has the scoop:
LIFE WITH ARCHIE #16 is a landmark issue for Archie and comics in general. We broke new ground with the wedding of Kevin Keller and Clay Walker and we want to commemorate it at the biggest comic book event of the year: San Diego Comic-Con. Now, fans can get their hands on an exclusive copy of the issue, comic book-sized, featuring a beautiful cover by superstar Phil Jimenez. We have no plans to reprint this issue as a standalone again, so this is a unique opportunity to get a piece of comic book history.”I'm certainly getting a copy of this.

I'm moving up in the geek world. I have become a Comic-Con Professional! Yes, the Action Doll (me) has become a Pro.
But to keep it real, I have this status because I'm on the Board of Directors for Bent-Con. We will be there, promoting Bent-Con and meeting a lot of gay geeky people!
I'm so excited!

My Recap of Comic Con 2011
Comic Con '11 was an event this year. It was cool, but I noticed that San Diego needs to step it up if it wants to maintain the flow and the folks. But in all, it was fun.
So let me tell you about it.
So let me tell you about it.
- I took a train to San Diego and it was fun, in a Murder on the Orient Express kinda way.
- The gays represented this year! We are taking over.
- The panels were good and engaging.
- I felt like the organization of Comic Con was off. They need new management.
- The folks in the next room in our hotel were having sex to disco and they were STRAIGHT.
- Tara from Buffy stayed in our hotel. We ran into her on the stairs.
| Me and WW Crew, Javier and Peter |
- I hung out a few Wonder Woman fans Saturday night. We had a great dinner and great time hanging out at the beach.
- I went to a writing session and I learned a lot. So Amazon Studios, I'm peeping you.
- My partner came this time, but he was tired of the crowds.
- The crowds were nerdier, crazier and a tad bit hotter.
| Me and Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead |
- I met Robert Kirkman! He created The Walking Dead.
- We couldn't set on the floor anywhere. Apparently, it is a fire hazard. Also you can't plug up your laptops either. I was told you can't have wires showing.
- I waited for two and half hours to see the True Blood panel. It was worth it, but I wish the Comic Con folks would empty out the main ballroom. Folks sit in there all day, making it hard for others to get in.
- The vendors are crooks. They get a hold of the Comic Con Exclusives and sale them for almost 10 times the price. That should be illegal.
- I didn't spend as much as I thought I would.
- I just found my Gucci sunglasses! I thought I lost them at Netroots Nation.
