I truly hated her with a passion... But I really wanted to be like her. I mean, as a young gay kid, it just seemed that she could have what ever she wanted, and in the movies, she did and more.
So please take a moment with me as I share why I hated/secretly wanted to be Phoebe Cates after the jump

John Barrowman says the US version of Captain Jack should NOT be straight
Supposedly, Fox is making an US version of Torchwood. But many of us fear their version will de-gay Capt. Jack.
John Barrowman thinks this will not happen lightly:
”I hope wherever [the franchise] goes that the show stays the same,” says the openly gay Scottish thesp. “The last thing I would want would be for Jack to become this heterosexual, straight hero. He’s an omnisexual guy. He likes men, women, aliens, whatever. I think we should continue going down that route.”
Any effort to de-gay Capt. Jack would be followed by a “really big discussion,” Barrowman stresses, adding that it would ultimately be up to series creator Russell T. Davies and producing partner Julie Gardner to fight that battle.
Regarding the status of a U.S. version, Barrowman confesses that he has “no information” beyond what’s already been reported: That Fox has commissioned a script from Davies and that Barrowman would almost certainly slip back into his signature role. “Julie has said, as has Russell, that there will be no Torchwood without John Barrowman as Capt. Jack,” he says. “If I am asked to do Torchwood again, I will do it at the drop of a hat — whether it’s in America or back in Britain or if it’s for a film. I absolutely love Capt. Jack.”
We love him too. So if you're making a US version, Fox, just follow the British version to the letter.

UPDATE! The PA Gay Marriage Ban defeated!
Today, Senator John H. Eichelberger, Jr led a resolution to ban gay marriage in Pennsylvania. Well, 3 Repubs crossed over to defeat the proposal.
The 8-to-6 vote in favor of tabling the measure in the Republican-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee leaves the joint resolution on limited life support.
Senator John H. Eichelberger, Jr. first announced he would sponsor the resolution in May of last year but postponed its introduction until January due to the economy, the conservative lawmaker said.
Eichelberger's resolution would insert the following language into the state constitution: “Only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid and recognized as a marriage in this Commonwealth.”
But three Republican and five Democratic lawmakers disagreed. Joining all the committee's Democrats in killing the resolution were Republicans Pat Browne, Jane Earll and Mary Jo White.
I'm surprised to hear this, but very grateful and hopeful for Pennsylvania.

Asher Roth is gay... I think
I've been hearing about this all day, but here's the latest:
Rapper Asher Roth will appear on E!News during the Christmas Holiday celebration to talk about his recent “coming out of the closet”. Asher was recently at a Gay Rights Parade with Lady Gaga, American Idol Winner, Clay Aiken, Blink 182, and REM lead man Michael Stipe. Asher Roth, who came out of the closet last week, is making his first appearance on E!News this week.
Asher, who was dropped from SRC Records, is currently the only major hip hop star that has admitted he is a “gay rapper”.
He admitted that he was one of the gay rappers mentioned in MTV’s Terrance Dean’s book. Terrance Dean posted the news on his blog, after he said he wasn’t going to name names. He was very happy that Asher came out of the closet before he had to mention names.
Asher, who has been on numerous rally’s and marches over the past year, really became visible in the gay community with American Idol winner, Clay Aiken.
Good for Asher, I hope his career blossoms. If you don't know him, here's his video.
UPDATE: News is (now) he's not gay
