Only The Crow Knows

I'm

wondering

why that branch

the one that barely holds your weight

that leaves you tossing in the wind

until you can hold on no longer

until you fall

into the currents

of the great

white

sky.

Saved

A handful of dried bulbs as a gift

Sprout long green fingers

That stretch to the light

Then stretch some more

I think I smelled their perfume

before I realized they'd blossomed

A glorious peppery scent in the room

You've heard of the knight

Riding in on his white horse

To save the princess?

It's the Paperwhites

That have come to save me

Instead

Petal Paradise

Outside there's

white, white, white

snow

everywhere I look.

But inside my house

in the center

of a one-dollar rose

I find tropical

shades of

paradise.
