Riding the crest of a wave

This surfer is slicing across the top of a wave.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  This week we are showing some underwater photos from the Sea of Cortez, including several photos of sea lions swimming underwater with us.

Surf Like an Egyptian

The posture of this surfer looks like he may be trying to trying to mimic the posture of some ancient Egyptian figures.

Today is Sunday so we have new photos posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  This week we are showing photos from our trip last month to Majorica, a diverse resort island in the Mediterranean.

Sunset surfer

This surfer seems intent on getting in a few last rides of the day, very late in the day, as the sun has set.

This week we have photos of the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

Acrobatic surfer

I am not a surfer, but I imagine that a decision point in the ride of any wave is whether to continue to ride it in towards shore, or whether to pull up and catch another wave.

And when pulling up, do you find a calm way to dismount, if that is possible, or flip around and go airborne.   This surfer has chosen the airborne approach.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  This week we are showing photos of the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia.

There is a surfer in there somewhere

Here is another surfer on Langosta Beach.  He seems to be caught up in the the middle of the wave rather than gliding across the top of the wave.

This week we have photos of the architecture of Budapest, Hungary, posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

A lone surfer on Langosta Beach

I took this photo a few moments after the photos that I posted yesterday and the day before.  From shore, the waves where the surfers surf to not appear particularly large, but photos like this show that the waves are taller than an adult.

I am content with watching the waves from shore.

This week we have photos of the architecture of Budapest, Hungary, posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

A good wave for surfing

Today's photo is from the same spot on Langosta beach as yesterday's photo.  I am not a surfer, but surfers regard the up flow of wind blowing off the top of a wave as a sign of a good wave for surfing.  Today's photo shows a good example of that phenomenon.

This week we have photos of the architecture of Budapest, Hungary, posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

Theme Day: Zest -- Surfing on Playa Langosta

Today's worldwide City Daily Photo Theme for the first day of the month is "Zest."  Today's photo shows the zestful energy of the ocean and a surfer.

I have not shown many beach photos recently, and Tamarindo is a beach and surfing resort town, so I thought I would post a photo of the typical surf on Playa Langosta.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  This week we are showing photos of the architecture of Budapest, Hungary.

Young male surfer

I maintain a practice of attempting gender equality on this website, so yesterday's photo of a female surfer is followed by today's post of a guy surfing at Tamarindo beach.

After this little surfing interlude yesterday and today, I will return tomorrow to my series of the sights that I encountered on my little walk in a San Jose suburb around the Marriott Hotel where we stayed.

This week we are showing photos from our recent trip to the Galapagos Islands on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

Young woman surfer

As another interlude in the rather pedestrian series I have been showing from a walk in suburban San Jose, here is another surfing photo from Tamarindo.

Today is Sunday, so we have new posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  This week we are showing photos from our recent trip to the Galapagos Islands.

Surfer, with a catamaran and Cabo Velas in the background

Because you have endured a series of photos showing suburban cows, I thought I would show a Tamarindo surfer today to interrupt my little series of the scenes that I encountered during my walk from the Marriott Hotel near the airport in San Jose.

This week we have photos of the giant tortoises of the Galapagos Islands posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

Wipe Out

This is the same surfer as yesterday, taken a few moments later, as you might be able to tell from the pattern on his swim trunks.

Maybe he spotted me on shore taking his photo and it distracted him, as it looks like he is waving for the camera.

Oh, well, at least the water in Tamarindo is a pleasant temperature all year around.

This week we are showing photos of the colorful tanneries of Fez, Morocco on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

A surfer crouching low

This surfer has the opposite style of yesterday's surfer who had a tall, upright pose.  He is crouching low, concentrating on the path ahead.

How would you rate his skill?  The answer will be revealed tomorrow.

This week we are showing photos of the colorful tanneries of Fez, Morocco on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

A surfer for more gender equity

Yesterday's photo showed a guy on the beach drinking beer, so I though I should show a more active photo today.  This surfer has a confident pose, as he has the style of a seasoned surfer.

This week we are showing photos of the colorful tanneries of Fez, Morocco on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

A surfer, alone with her reflection

Low tide exposes the slope of Tamarindo beach that is so gradual that the water on the beach reflects this lone surfer.  Her refection has the quality of a painting.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  This week we are showing photos of the Wadi Rum Desert of Jordan, famous for its connection to Lawrence of Arabia.

Young surfer

This boy was obviously and justifiably proud of himself for surfing a wave all the way into shore on Tamrindo beach.

This week we are showing photos of an old cemetery and ruins of an old Friary on the Hill of Slane, Ireland, on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.

Beginning surfer

I am continuing the pink theme a few more days, although this is a little on the orangish side of pink.  I wonder if someone told her that the tag on her swimsuit was sticking up.  Not me.  I would not notice such things.

I will even things up with a photo posted tomorrow for gender equality.

We have new photos of the wildlife and people of Tanzania our Viva la Voyage travel photo site this week.

Beginning Surfer's Wipeout

Yesterday I showed a surfer who was very good.  Today's photo with a little point-and-shoot camera is not very good, but I am posting it anyway because it shows the opposite extreme of surfing experience.

On the left of this photo are the arms and legs of a surfer who has just fallen off his surfboard, which is visible just in front of the tiny wave.

Surfing is probably like riding a bicycle.  It is likely harder to keep one's balance while barely moving than it is when moving more quickly.

Every surfer has to start sometime, so I am not criticizing the beginner in this photo.   He is to be congratulated for trying and for beginning a fun and thrilling sport.

We have new photos of Ireland posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site this week.  We are showing photos of Galway and the Cliffs of Moher.

Surfer on the crest of a wave

I haven't shown a surfer in a little while, so here is surfer on the crest of a wave on Langosta beach.   This surfer has just made a quick cut to his right, as evidenced by the spray of water to his left.

Surf or Sleep?

I showed a surfer wearing a Banana Surf shirt yesterday, so I thought I would post a photo of one of the Banana Surf Shops today.  This is on the main beachfront road in Tamarindo.

As you can see, in addition to selling and renting surfboards, they have a selection of hammocks for sale.  I guess this shop caters to people who can't decide if they want to surf, or take a nap in a hammock.  Or maybe they plan to do both.

I don't know why a surf shop would be called Banana Surf.  We do have banana trees around, and Costa Rica was the original banana republic in the late 1800's, as what is now the United Fruit Company of Chiquita Banana fame planted banana plantations on the land the government gave them in exchange for building a railroad connecting the central valley to the Caribbean.

Today is Sunday, so we have new photos posted on our Viva la Voyage travel photo site.  This week we are showing photos from Tanzania, featuring elephants and giraffes.
