Public Eye - Mood Change Party CS (2016)

Public Eye is what happens when members of PDX’s Autistic Youth switch instruments and decide to start a new band and play something entirely different and that is a stripped down, straight forward and repetitive post-punk.

This tape, even thought is a demo, do not sound like a demo at all. On the contrary, it fucking slays! Public Eye combines powerful and melodic songwriting with laser sharp technical precision, indie rock sensibilities and guitar-driven poppiness of 80's new wave and post-punk.

For fans of early Rought Trade catalogue, Fugazi, Wire, Spacemen 3, Institute, Ceremony, Parquet Courts etc.

Buy the tape from Sabotage Records here.

Modern Delusion - Days Of Us 12'' [2015]

After two releases on Doomtown Records, Wasteland tape and split 7" with Chresus Jist, this synth-oriented, gloomy post punk trio managed to craft twelve memorable songs for their highly anticipated debut LP.

"Days of Us" captures bleak atmosphere and isolation caused by living in the big city on some shitty part of the world and the 4-track lo-fi production doesn't hurt either. Wide range of influences come from some classic synth punk sounds like Devo, The Screamers or Units and there's definitely some obvious influence from Yugoslavian post-punk/new wave scene and bands such as Paraf and some contemporary stuff not unlike Jay Reatard's Lost Sounds. But this is not straight up death rock, post-punk or goth revival band, Modern Delusion build up their own trademark sound with strong melancholic touch and vocals soaked in reverb backed up with punk attitude and primitive raw sound.

Silkscreened sleeves come in two different colors; red and grey. Artwork by Dirt Sleeze.

Buy this LP here.

Also, there's a new band called The Celetoids featuring 2/3 of Modern Delusion plus drummer from Chresus Jist. The trio plays a frantic, nervous and rabid kind of furious punk rock inspired by the first wave of British punk and obscure KBD gems, even outsider punk weirdos like Rudimentary Peni.

The Celetoids debut tape called Pupal Stage is released by Doomtown a few days ago along with the new Generacion Suicida tapes and Cal And The Calories tapes (this one is on Doomtown's sublabel Outsider Tapes). Get the new tapes here. Stream new DT releases here.

Chroma - Cuerpos Dóciles 12'' [2016]

Amazing new group from Barcelona consisting of 3 ladies who formerly and currently played in RAKTA, LAS OTRAS, INVISIBLES, SIEGA and RAKTA EM TRANSE. Primitive, mechanically repetitive, brooding tribal punk with some industrial influences that recall bands such as Killing Joke. I must admit I like this band even more than all off their other projects.

For fans of La Misma, Una Bestia Incontrolable, Belgrado, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Ultimo Resorte...

You can get it here.

Modern Delusion / Chresus Jist - split 7" + new Modern Delusion LP [2014/2015]

Yet another release from Doomtown Records. This was out last year in support of Modern Delusion's tour with Chresus Jist and limited to 300 copies.

Modern Delusion delivers three numb hymns in their traditional synth-punk/new wave style and this time the songs are even more darker and gloomier then on their debut “Wasteland” tape. If you like Lost Sounds, The Spits (minus the comic relief side) or Devo you’ll probably be into this trio.

On the flipside, Chresus Jist are presenting three noisy, surfy and catchy lo-fi gems similar to new era of noisy garage pop bands and Sub Pop scene. Lets just say there’s a slight touch of early Jesus & Mary Chain and the Pixies in their sound.

This was sold out from the label but we restocked a very few copies from the band and you can get it here.  Also, if you like Modern Delusion make sure to check their highly praised debut tape. You can read recent write on Wasteland tape on Terminal Boredom here.

In the meantime, Modern Delusion
managed to craft twelve memorable songs for their highly anticipated debut LP called Days of Us.

C.C.T.V. - S/T 7" [2015]

Debut 7" from this Coneheads-affiliated band from Northwest Indiana. It sounds pretty much exactly like Coneheads, only with a woman singing instead of a man. Total nervous frantic post-punk that sounds like a recently excavated secret basement tape from the year 1979. Killer! If you haven't heard Coneheads yet check my previous post about them here.

This is already sold out from Lumpy Records.

Silent Era - Silent Era CS [2015]

Upbeat, fast and moody punk with folks from Deskonocidos, Neon Piss, The New Flesh, Criaturas and who knows which other band from the States. If reverbed vocals, dark melodic singing and chorus pedals are your thing don't overlook this Bay Area punks. At first this really reminded me of earlier Dag Nasty but this should appeal to people into melodic side of UK punk similar to HDQ as well as to people into bands like Arctic Flowers or Sect.

You can buy this tape here.

Pagan Rituals - S/T 7" [2014]

Members of Tear It Up, Dead Nation and Splitting Headache playing something quite different from you would usually expect from these guys and that is ghoulish post-punk in the vein of early Killing Joke with some hints towards Amebix sound. Cool debut release.

Divided Minds - Strangers 7" [2014]

Many of you know that I'm involved in Doomtown Records. We put out a bunch of new releases in the last 12 months and I haven't had a time to post 'em here but eventually I will do that. This blog was kinda on hiatus cause I was sick of writing for some long time and other people just quit. As you see, recently, I started to post on the regularly basis and I hope this will not change for a period of some longer time. One of the few releases I put out this year is debut vinyl release from the frantic Zagreb city punk trio Divided Minds. This little fucker delivers four memorable mid-tempo songs of highly energetic and nervous herky-jerky punk rock, sounding like a cross of traditional 77 KBD punk and early 80's melodic hardcore played by the Zero Boys and most Rikk Agnew's bands. The "Strangers" EP is all about good ol' punk riffs, played with passion and blended with perfectly fitting snotty vocals, so if you dig old fashioned punk rock with a modern touch, you definitely need this piece of wax.

Some other opinions on this 7":

"Darkly tuneful punk by this Croatian three piece. There's a little bit of a west coast whiff to the overall sound although a song like "Invitation" sounds almost like a punked-up Warsaw (Joy Division's original name) track. Not gloom 'n doom by any stretch--there's a kick to the songs, especially the closing "Burning Hell." written by Al Quint (Suburban Voice)

"Yeah, Divided Minds plays straightforward post-punk with more of an emphasis on the punk that the post. Sometimes, it feels like the band is playing a little to fast for their skill level, in a way where it feels like everything might fall apart, but that adds to the charm of the whole record. Anyway, it has a dark, but not gloomy sound and sticks to a punchy 16th note-driven attack, not unlike a lower tier Marked Men offshot. It's good. I would go see them in a Decrepit squat." written by Greg Harvester (Maximum Rocknroll #377)

Buy the 7" from Doomtown webstore here. The band also repressed their demo tape for their 3rd european tour with Black Gust and there are very few copies left and added to the store as well as some last copies of Black Gust 7inches.

If you're living in the USA it might be easier for you to order this one from Sorry State Records or Dirt Cult Records.

Doomtown Records is also a distro, see the goodies in stock on this blog or just go over to our bigcartel store.  Also, you can purchase our stuff via our discogs store. As for the other Doomtown releases we put out, you can check them out on our bandcamp page. Also, there's plenty of new releases on horizon. More info on that soon.

Pure Mania - Ratas De Dos Patas CS [2014]

Members of Spectres (Vancouver, Canada) and members of raw anarcho-punks troops from Fracaso are responsible for this incredible demo. Pure Mania incorporates both scummy chords and fuzzy bass lines Fracaso are known for. On the other hand there's plenty of post-punk and anarcho-punk influences Spectres are known for. This is insanely good punk rock with a slight gothy and dark vibe, so fucking catchy, and so fucking raw at the same time.

Sect - Selftitled LP [2012]

Everybody's been raving about Barcelona based post-punk depression Belgrado but this project that involves Belgrado members seem to have slipped under majority's radar or at least I think so. The band already broke up but they managed to craft 10-track debut lp full of catchy melodies, female/male intertwined shouty vocals, jumpy rhytms all together creating bleak & dull atmosphere. The music is heavily influenced by the darker side of UK anarcho punk/peace punk and while spinning this vinyl I couldn't not to think of cult polish band Siekiera. Even the artwork of the record reminds me of Nowa Aleksandria. The Sect's drummer who also sings in Belgrado is from Poland so she obviosly introduced the band members with the polish classic post-punk sound. This is pretty decent modern take on 80's european anarcho punk and if thats your cup of tea make sure to get this.

You can purchase Sect's vinyl record here.

Warsong - The Caravan 12" [2012]

Finally, Doomtown's fifth release aka Warsong - "The Caravan" 12" is out.

Here we go with official press info. Well, actually, it's a review written by Kalle Stille but this one describes this record perfectly.

“Here we go, from the ashes of INSOMNIO and NO ESCAPE comes WARSONG with their second release after their impressive “Ancient times” debut-LP. Five songs: all killer no filler (four original songs plus a Wipers song that hasn’t been covered to death – especially not in Spain). On a good day, this record will make out an instant classic, on a bad day you’ll have to play it twice to discover the depth and richness of this record, but you definitely won’t sell it to anyone else again, because real good records stay forever. If you want to describe the sound of WARSONG, put together a band with a young Clif Hanger (The Freeze) fronting an all star band with the best ingredients from DAG NASTY, ALL, THE WIPERS and the mighty ADOLESCENTS. Your wettest dreams come true, if their subject is pure melodic hardcore-punk in classic 80s style. The more often you play this record the bigger it grows…and it’s damn huge right now. Mastered by genius Hajji Husayn from the almighty Red Dons.”

XAXAXA - Tango Revolucioner LP [2011]

XAXAXA hail from Skopje, Macedonia and feature 3 members of a group of post-punk enthusiasts known as Bernays Propaganda, as well as xFxPxOx, the legendary Macedonian hardcore punk thrashers. XAXAXA's agenda is to explore the melodic side of the mid / late 80's Dischord roster, so don't be surprised if they remind you of bands like FUGAZI, RITES OF SPRING and even DAG NASTY. XAXAXA's tunes also have a moody HUSKER DU/WIPERS vibe, so it's safe to say that these guys aren't just another copycat band paying tribute to the Revolution Summer days of DC hardcore. This was out last year on Doomtown Records and you can buy vinyl via Doomtown's Discogs store. For wholesale, trades or whatever write here. Arctic Flowers & Spectres

Portland's Arctic Flowers are totally into british anarcho post-punk and everything what was great about Corpus Christi collective, but yet, their songs seem incredibly fresh and not cliche. The band features punk veteran Stan (ex-Signal Lost) on guitar, Defect Defect's drummer and some crusties from Bog People \ Vivid Sekt. Demo was released sometime in 2010. and a few songs from these sessions were cut for a 7inch single. I think the band put this one out by themselves but I do know for sure you can get it from Feral Ward.

Also, there is a split 7inch with canadians Spectres out there. Spectres are also sharing passion for british anarcho punk as well as sometimes reinventing Warsaw \ Joy Division gloomy sounds. This split release is out on canadian Charged \ Distorted Rec. Beside this release, Spectres also did two other singles as well as the killer LP titled "Last Days" which is out on german Sabotage Rec. Oh, and there is a new Arctic Flowers release on a horizon. Hear one tune "Rising" here. This track reminds me of Signal Lost at their best moments. Can't wait to get this one on vinyl. :)

Total Control – “Retiree” b/w “Meds II” 7" [2009]

Who are Total Control you can read in my previous post. This is their second single and is out on Iron Lung Records. Minimalistic Retiree is the best song i've heard from this fellas and this one really reminds me of Liars but with more trashy sound and of course even more synths. Meds II got industrial vibe and is more experimental but the drug fried vocals are doing the job pretty well. Great shit.

Defect Defect - Defect Defect [2010]

New record from members and ex-members of The Observers and Autistic Youth so you know exactly what to expect from these guys and that is melody driven hardcore punk impregnated with grime and dark vibe. I like this way more than the first two singles. USA release out on Residue Records and Euro release out on Thrashbastard \ Taken By Surprise from Germany so be sure to support the band and labels involved and get yourself a piece of plastic from them.

Sedatives - Human Beings 7" [2009]

from TAKING BY SURPRISE

"Two song 7" by the great Sedatives from Ottawa, that's the the capital of Canada, yeah you better believe it, victims of geography...Their previous 7" (Going Gaga / P.Trash) and their new self titled full length LP (Deranged / P.Trash) are solid gold. On this new 45 they jerk out two catchy as hell KBD styled smashers recorded the night Michael Jackson died! Short, fast and snotty, with a Sedatives attitude."

Out on TAKING BY SURPRISE
