Spring & society

Well there has been a bit of this lately...

It started with marvellous Spanish lunch at Movida (Hosier Lane) with Dermo & B, all good fun...then an Italian lunch at Cicciolina in St Kilda with an old friend from the UK, followed by some dinner parties, a 30th birthday party and a very boozy Moroccan Sunday lunch.

That was just the first 3 weeks of September. It must be Spring.

The wonderful citizens of Melbourne have survived the dreaded mid year seasons [winter and the football] and have their party shoes on to celebrate the return of one of my favourite seasons - Spring.

Not only the season has changed. Thankfully so has the fashions. The winter coats and [football] scarfs have been folded away for lighter clothing and more tailored wear. The skinny cigarette jean is [unfortunately] still rearing it's sickly head however the fashions this summer are looking rather becoming with lots of stripes and [shock horror for this Melbournian] lots of colour. However I'm sure black is still very much welcomed at the luncheon table.

So the fashion and the food hold me no concern. Since going to the gym I can justify the food and puddings rather easily. It the amount of the wine and hard liquor that I seem to constantly be plying into my body during Spring's return that is.

So given this when I heard that my old boss (now an ex pat in Singapore) was in town I was going to catch a quick drink at Riverland on Friday night. And I did...then another then another then dinner then the Prince of Wales and finally ( to my horror ] the Xchange hotel dancing on a podium and realising that maybe as my sister and her family were arriving the next day I best get myself home. And woke up Andrew when I got it [oops].

Bless Spring!

Corey Delaney, Party Liason - The Finale

OK so I promise this is to be the LAST post on Corey (NB the newspaper yesterday posted his last name as "Worthington " however he is also known as Delaney? Yet another facet of this piece of dimondique.

I found the below after joining the Facebook group Vote Corey Delaney - Australia's Biggest Bogan!! and needed to share (for those who do not know - Bogan = Redneck in OZ).

Especially like this one from Zoolander...was this his muse?
And the most favorite quote used at the moment in OZ is...
No they're not...Well maybe they are...

Even Southpark has been touched with Corey (for Brig)
I will now assume (prey) that Corey will fade away out of the limelight like a Big Brother contestant...or the 3rd place winner on Idol...or the Bronze Medalist in the javelin...

Corey Delaney, Party Liason - Part 2

Although I think the media is wasting far much too time on Party man Mr Corey Delaney who incidentally got arrested today( this story has left OZ and now been picked up by CNN & BBC!) I got this emailed to me today and I had to share...Party boy extraordinaire Ben Cousins meets his match with Corey!

On further news Wikipedia has rejected an entry about the party man - one user was quoted...

He's a dickhead kid. We don't write articles about every dickhead kid, even the ones who have been on ACA (A Current Affair).

Well put. However the media needs to shut up about it.

Somehow I still don't think this story has ended...

Xmas Party Fever - All nighter...

Well it's early Sunday morning and I have just awoken...and I'm reflecting on the last long 48 hours...
So it started Friday night at the Big Xmas Party for the whole company...(Andy didn't come this year as he came and left last year after an hour!) - At a pub/bar/club in Bourke St...The venue was alright yet it seemed a little small for the amount of people...I went over to Dermo's house first so we could arrive at the party at the same time so we wouldn't look like Norman No-mates...
The theme was Hollywood - and many dressed up - Liz Taylor, 40's screen sirens, miltary men (bless the gay boys), Lots of 007's (none of whom were as hot as Sean or Mr Craig) Bravehearts, Pimps, Pirates, Cowboys ( the gay's love a cowboy) and more starlets than the night sky (excuse the pun MGM)...

Needless to say as it was an open bar everyone became alcoholics for the night...I (somehow) switched to water around eleven so when I started to sober up for the rest of the party - it's always weird seeing everyone drunk and you're not - they seem quite revolting...

So then we headed out to 'Marrakesh' a little basement bar off Bank Place...and met up with some others...that was fun as we just lazed around on the sofa's and makeshift Turkish/Moroccan enspired surrounds and talked a lot of shit...and had a little dance...However we got kicked out around 3ish so we hunted down another venue...
Now let me tell you this...in Melbourne (CBD) there are a more bars/pubs/cocktail lounges and clubs than people can actually fill...unfortunately most close around 2-3 in the morning so hunting an all night place (in the CBD that is) is hard...as we staggered from bar to bar we were told to 'move on/members only/VIP night/etc' as it were...and they could afford to this time of year...so one of the group says 'lets go back to mine' so after waiting 30 minutes for 3 cabs we head off to richmond for recovery around 4ish...

Only problem is that his housemate was home - they have a fight about the noise etc and in 10 minutes we are all out on the street! Thankfully another offers their house in Albert Park - so another cab ride over to the Albert Park and another recovery starts...
Well the tunes are good and all is well until 6.30 when our host passed out so we organise ANOTHER cab ride (don't you wish cab rides earnt you frequent flyers) and B&D offer their home in Newport as 'Venue du Jour' to continue the fun...this goes to about 11 when the remainder of the party fall asleep ( bad form Brett!)

I wake up realise from the drool down my chin its about 5pm in the afternoon and I'm on someone elses couch...I wait for the hosts to wake and Dermo - the only other hanger-on to the party like myself( as the rest sensibly left in the early morning to go home) so we can share a cab to our side of the city...

I managed to get in at 7pm ( about the same time i left Friday night!) and find a note from Andy - he's done the washing/shopping (Bless) and has gone out to Doug's birthday drinks (oops forgot about that) so I have a shower, eat a thai curry and watch part of the 'COUNTDOWN' concert ( havent laughed like that for ages) and crash... Needless to say a bit sore and flat today..going back to bed for a bit... Good night though.

Cocktail hour X 2

Well without sounding like Auntie Mame...cocktail hour was toooooo much last night Vera daaaaarling...ok enough of the Roslyn Russell at 8.49am on a sunday...especially since I have a bit of a hangover...

Last night we were invited to a housewarming in South Bank - guys we know have been living in the same place for 13 years - and now have bought it! Quite sensible really as can you imagine the savings in removalist costs! I digress...The boys went to a bit of trouble and there was a mixture of pitchers full of cosmos, margaritas, jelly shots and other colourful numbers designed to give you a headache in the morning...I did get to see and pay homage to Aunty Moira (will try to hunt down snaps of her last last performance at the Rooty Hill RSL)as she was keeping court in the garden...Shirley alas was not there...disappeared in a DC3 over the sea of Japan many many years ago now as she was coming back from a sell out performance at the Tokyo Gardens...Lets not speak of it...Great to see a lot of people we haven't seen in ages...Managed to leave in a semi-respectable sort of way (only the half not the fully loaded) and headed into the city to the Joe's birthday at the COMM bar...

Well m'dear the COMM Bar is all that and more - another Mebourne Bar in a hidden laneway I never knew (only been working the the CBD for the last 8 years)This brilliant pristine white bar with sweeping staircase ( where it leads to quite unsure given alcohol status) and fabulous Parisian chic wine room was a little too much! FYI the toilets are jet black and look heaven ( ps - I always guage a venue by its toilets? Why? Its the last thing the owners spend money on!) Joe & Carmel were already there looking fabulous and again saw many friends we havent seen in ages...why I continued drinking is still beyond me...(that right I was drunk!) So anyway we said our farewells (aka I fell out of the bar) and hailed a cab ( of course we went to 7-11 for a 4 and 20 - why o why the 7-11 have the brightest lights in the galaxy is beyond me...) and went to sleep...so an evening with Auntie Mame (Moira) ended more so "Withnail & I'
