i sure as shite know they're 'fibbing'

i'm not sure if the lemmings know or not. sometimes i think they DO know and are using any old excuse to accuse the president of non existent infractions simply because he's black. at other times i think they DON'T know and really ARE lemmings (plus they still don't like the fact the president of the united states of america is black)

The public knows the GOP is fibbing

Only Republicans really buy the anti-healthcare reform lies. So why are some Dems settling for such an awful bill?

By Gene Lyons

"I can't tell you how many foreign leaders who are heads of center-right governments say to me, I don't understand why people would call you socialist. In my country, you'd be considered a conservative." -- President Obama, Sept. 20, 2009

There have always been two basic arguments for health insurance reform: one based in morality, the other self-interest. For a documented 45,000 persons to die prematurely in America each year because they can't afford proper care is a national disgrace. Almost everybody apart from "conservatives" whose moral imagination is limited to judging other people's sex lives understands that.

The current cruel, wasteful system is indefensible. Surely that's why almost three-quarters of physicians polled by the New England Journal of Medicine favor genuine reform. About 63 percent of doctors surveyed nationwide support a public option; 10 percent would prefer a single-payer system, basically Medicare for everybody.........

here's my favorite line from the article:

"For all the hullabaloo, it appears alarmist rhetoric hasn't scared ordinary people as much as it has cable TV anchors."

holy shite, this orly creature sure is something

isn't it?

even it's client is saying ENOUGH to orly

judge land is being far too kind. he shouldn't wait ANY longer to fine her. just do it

Birther lawyer in hot water after accusing judge of treason

Orly Taitz, the lawyer heading up the "birther" movement trying to prove President Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States, has suffered severe setbacks in recent days to her strategy of litigating Obama's provenance in federal courtrooms.

A federal court judge in Georgia has given Taitz two weeks to present an argument why he shouldn't fine her $10,000 for pursuing what he called a "frivolous" lawsuit on behalf of an army captain who questioned Obama's place of birth.

And to add to the complications, the army captain has now distanced herself from her lawyer, asking the judge to withdraw a motion of appeal Taitz had filed on her behalf and declaring she plans to file a complaint against Taitz with the California State Bar.

RAW STORY reported last week that US District Court Judge Clay Land threw out Taitz's lawsuit on behalf of US Army Capt. Connie Rhodes, who had challenged her deployment orders to Iraq, on the argument that President Obama wasn't born in the United States, and is therefore not the legitimate commander-in-chief of the armed forces..........

i have a question for rep joe wilson

did you ever yell "YOU LIE" at king george or the big dick? i'm just curious here. that's all. just asking. it was a question.

un EFFING believable

The Republican Response, Arriving a Little Early
By Dana Milbank
As President Obama addressed a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night, the nation's rapidly deteriorating discourse hit yet another low.

It happened at 8:40 pm, just after the president vowed to lawmakers that his health-care reform proposals would not provide benefits to illegal immigrants. As millions of Americans watched from home, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) shouted at the president from his fifth-row seat: "You lie!"

Murmurs of "ooh" filled the stunned chamber. Nancy Pelosi's chin dropped. Obama moved on to the next sentence in his speech, about how no federal money would be used to fund abortion. "Not true!" came another shout..............

............

Above all, though, was Wilson's effrontery. From the reaction in the chamber -- one Democrat could be heard calling for him to be thrown out -- Wilson knew he had stepped in it. He shrugged, then consulted his BlackBerry. He puffed out his cheeks to exhale and licked his lips.

Toward the end of Obama's speech, the text of which was handed out before the congressman's outburst, was a fitting rebuke of the sort of behavior Wilson had just exhibited. When "we can no longer even engage in a civil conversation with each other over the things that truly matter," Obama said, "we don't merely lose our capacity to solve big challenges. We lose something essential about ourselves."........

this isn't a high school student government here. this isn't russia back in the 'shoe' days, this isn't one of those lands where our highly elected officials in dc get into fist fights and shouting matches. we have a lawfully elected president. he should be MUST be allowed the dignity to speak without interruption or heckling. disagree all you want AFTER he is finished. if i was on the floor when king george was speaking, NO MATTER HOW MANY LIES came out of that mouth, i'd not heckle him (and i don't believe obama lied by the way. i DO believe king george lied). what the fuck is WRONG with these people (by these people i mean the republicans)? are they SO fucking afraid of brown skin they'll sabotage everything that's going on in this country? really.

In Lawmaker’s Outburst, a Rare Breach of Protocol

By CARL HULSE
WASHINGTON — It was a rare breach of the protocol that governs ritualistic events in the Capitol.

In an angry and very audible outburst, Representative Joe Wilson, Republican of South Carolina, interrupted President Obama’s speech Wednesday night with a shout of “You lie!”

His eruption — in response to Mr. Obama’s statement that Democratic health proposals would not cover illegal immigrants — stunned members of both parties in the House chamber.

Democrats said it showed lack of respect for the office of the presidency and was reminiscent of Republican disruptions at recent public forums on health care.

“It is outrageous,” said Representative Joseph Crowley, Democrat of New York, who said it reminded him of the “antics that are being used to disrupt and fog what is going on.”.........

i can respect a conscientious objector

who says they do not want to fight in an illegal, immoral and unjust war (WHICH JUST HAPPENED TO BE DECLARED BY KING GEORGE AND NOT BARACK OBAMA)

i cannot respect this effing lunacy.....

Retired general, lieutenant colonel join reservist's Obama suit

A controversial suit brought by a U.S. Army reservist has been joined by a retired Army two-star general and an active reserve Air Force lieutenant colonel.

Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook filed the suit July 8 in federal court here asking for conscientious objector status and a preliminary injunction based upon his belief that President Barack Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and is therefore ineligible to serve as president of the United States and commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces.................

baghdad will burn

if the photos are released, is what he (al-maliki) said

and he may (or may not) be right

i was a proponent of having them released. my reasoning was; we would all be outraged. we would say and MEAN, the united states does NOT torture. we would make those responsible to be held accountable. it looks like none of that will happen.

i will accept the pictures not being released. i will NEVER accept those responsible going free.

THIS IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. WE DO NOT TORTURE
Why'd Obama switch on detainee photos? Maliki went ballistic

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama reversed his decision to release detainee abuse photos from Iraq and Afghanistan after Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki warned that Iraq would erupt into violence and that Iraqis would demand that U.S. troops withdraw from Iraq a year earlier than planned, two U.S. military officers, a senior defense official and a State Department official have told McClatchy.

In the days leading up to a May 28 deadline to release the photos in response to an American Civil Liberties Union lawsuit, U.S. officials, led by Christopher Hill, the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, told Maliki that the administration was preparing to release photos of suspected detainee abuse taken from 2003 to 2006................

this column impressed me

quite a bit. as i've written before, i happen to want the obama administration to not only release the detainee abuse photos, but charge those responsible (and by 'those', i mean the big boyz, NOT the bit players). that way the world can see and believe the UNITED STATES DOES NOT TORTURE
NOR WILL IT STAND FOR TORTURE

Obama Can’t Turn the Page on Bush
By FRANK RICH
TO paraphrase Al Pacino in “Godfather III,” just when we thought we were out, the Bush mob keeps pulling us back in. And will keep doing so. No matter how hard President Obama tries to turn the page on the previous administration, he can’t. Until there is true transparency and true accountability, revelations of that unresolved eight-year nightmare will keep raining down drip by drip, disrupting the new administration’s high ambitions. That’s why the president’s flip-flop on the release of detainee abuse photos — whatever his motivation — is a fool’s errand. The pictures will eventually emerge anyway, either because of leaks (if they haven’t started already) or because the federal appeals court decision upholding their release remains in force. And here’s a bet: These images will not prove the most shocking evidence of Bush administration sins still to come..........

Thursday, May 14, 2009

i respectfully disagree mr president

i think releasing the photographs and condemning those that committed the atrocities and those that ordered the atrocities will SAVE lives. it will show the world, we as americans will NOT tolerate torture. we as americans DO NOT torture. we as americans will PUNISH THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR TORTURE (and i'm NOT talking the grunts that may have done the physical abuse. i'm talking the big boyz and of course coonnddii as well. make them pay for the disregard they have for america and all she is and all she stands for. make them pay for torture. AMERICA DOES NOT TORTURE)

Obama Shifts on Abuse Photos
Releasing Images of Detainee Mistreatment Would Endanger U.S. Troops, President Says

Washington Post Staff Writer
A month after making public once-classified Justice Department memos detailing the Bush administration's coercive methods of interrogation, President Obama yesterday chose secrecy over disclosure, saying he will seek to block the court-ordered release of photographs depicting the abuse of detainees held by U.S. authorities abroad.
Obama agreed less than three weeks ago not to oppose the photos' release, but he changed his mind after viewing some of the images and hearing warnings from his generals in Iraq and in Afghanistan that such a move would endanger U.S. troops deployed there. .......

Glenn Beck Recycles "X-Files" Plot to Spread Fear of Obama

FOX News personality, Glenn Beck, has been using his airtime to broadcast a right-wing conspiracy theory about the Obama administration setting up 'concentration camps,'part of a secret plot to establish totalitarian rule. Curiously, Beck's criticism of President Obama's economic policies seems to have been ripped directly from the plot of FOX TV's past hit series The X-Files (1993-2002) and the films based on the series (1998, 2008).

While Beck claims he is not 100% certain that the camps exist, he has proclaimed repeatedly that the Obama administration's economic policies are pushing the country into "totalitarianism' and that he "cannot debunk" the existence of the camps, which are supposedly being set up under the auspice of the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), but which Beck claims will be used soon for mass imprisonment of American citizens with right-leaning political views.

i've mentioned this before

i work for a fairly progressive company (in SOME areas). they've always been open to gay, lesbian, trans, etc. for as long as i've worked for them (a few years. i do have a TON of years under my belt but the company i work for bought the OTHER companies i worked for...so i haven't been working directly for them for all my time) they've had benefits for same sex partners. it's a european based company, perhaps that has something to do with it. i don't know. they're also big on being green AND volunteer work. i happen to love my job and the people i work with. i'm pretty lucky.

ANYWAY..................some people aren't so lucky in this way. i DO hope president obama changes that though

Obama Is on the Spot as Rulings Aid Gay Partners
By ROBERT PEAR
WASHINGTON — Just seven weeks into office, President Obama is being forced to confront one of the most sensitive social and political issues of the day: whether the government must provide health insurance benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees.

In separate, strongly worded orders, two judges of the federal appeals court in California said that employees of their court were entitled to health benefits for their same-sex partners under the program that insures millions of federal workers.

But the federal Office of Personnel Management has instructed insurers not to provide the benefits ordered by the judges, citing a 1996 law, the Defense of Marriage Act. .....

this decision,

i like a GREAT DEAL.

it's very nice to have a president who believes the world is older than 6,000 years. who won't order scientists to lie about global warming who understands the needs and issues of women AND who wants to cure diseases and ills

Obama Aims to Shield Science From Politics
Memo to Accompany Stem Cell Action

By Rob Stein
Washington Post Staff Writer
When President Obama lifts restrictions on funding for human embryonic stem cell research today, he will also issue a presidential memorandum aimed at insulating scientific decisions across the federal government from political influence, officials said yesterday.

"The president believes that it's particularly important to sign this memorandum so that we can put science and technology back at the heart of pursuing a broad range of national goals," Melody C. Barnes, director of Obama's Domestic Policy Council, told reporters during a telephone briefing yesterday. .........

Bobby Jindal Response Panned By Pundits, Republicans And Democrats Alike
The Huffington Post News Team.

Gov. Bobby Jindal’s task tonight, to rebut President Obama’s first address to a joint session of Congress, was a thankless one. But it still constituted an opportunity for the Louisiana Republican to show that he could handle the national spotlight, present himself as a fresh face of the Republican Party, and stand up to the current president oratorically.

On each of these three hurdles, he came up short. Both Democrats and Republicans alike panned Jindal’s rebuttal in terms that were decidedly harsh: "amateurish," "laughable" and, most commonly, "a missed opportunity."

"After watching Jindal," one Democratic strategist emailed, "I’d pay a lot of money to be back watching a Palin speech."

"Awkward with capital A," emailed another.

The punditry was equally brutal. Part of the problem was the crux of Jindal’s address, which consisted almost entirely of red meat for conservatives. The Governor offered criticism for anything other than tax cuts and ridiculed government spending for items that are either widely supported -- "$8 billion for high-speed rail" -- or seemingly essential -- "$140 million for something called ’volcano monitoring’" (isn’t Louisiana Exhibit A in the need for natural disaster warning?)............

you know i don't know if this stimulus plan

is a good thing or a bad thing or something in the middle. i'm far from being an economist. what i DO know is we're in deep deep deep shite and king george was at the helm when we started in that direction. he never swayed from the shitepile course though and NO ONE (democrats included) did anything to grab the wheel away from him. now republicans are screaming for accountabilty. well i'm screaming for it too BUT FROM KING GEORGE AND HIS ENTIRE COURT.

now shut the fuck up and take the money and make sure it gets to where it belongs

Obama Tells Certain Republican Govs to Cut the Crap
Posted by Steve Benen, Washington Monthly
President Obama hosted the nation's governors in the East Room this morning, and, among other things, announced that $15 billion to cover states' Medicaid costs would begin reaching capitals this week. The result is 20 million Americans nationwide who'll be able to keep their coverage.

But towards the end of his remarks, the president stopped looking at his notes and started responding directly to some of the recent talk about some governors rejecting some federal stimulus aid. Most notably, Govs. Jindal, Sanford, and Barbour have raised concerns about unemployment benefits for part-time workers.

Obama didn't mention any names, but he nevertheless made clear that now would be a very good time for everyone to cut the nonsense.

hmmmmmmmm i sit corrected

there IS a governor out there who DID turn down some (and i do mean SOME) of the stimulus money. who does he think he's helping here? surely not the citizens of louisiana

this is downright scary

Jindal Rejects $90 Million In Recovery Funding That Would Have Benefited 25,000 Louisiana Residents»

When President Obama signed the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act last week, it included three different provisions to benefit unemployed workers. The first provided funding to states that allowed for a $25 per week increase in benefits. The second extended the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program which gives 20 weeks of federally-funded unemployment benefits to individuals “who had already collected all regular state benefits,” while the third provision widened the pool of people eligible to receive unemployment benefits.

Today, however, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal announced his intention to oppose changing state law to allow his Lousiana citizens to qualify for the second two unemployment provisions. Jindal said the state would only be accepting money to increase the unemployment insurance payments for those who currently qualify for unemployment insurance.

In all, Jindal turned away nearly $100 million in federal aid for his state’s unemployed residents...........

Obama Signs the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act

Posted by: Cara

President Barack Obama has just signed his first piece of legislation — and in a move that will hold much symbolism for women and all invested in their equality, it was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

Ledbetter, now 70, became an icon for Obama during his campaign for the White House. Obama escorted her into the East Room this morning for the signing ceremony, and led a prolonged round of applause for her as they stood together at the podium.

“We are upholding one of this nation’s first principles: that we are all created equal and each deserve a chance to pursue our own version of happiness,” Obama said before signing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act, which makes clear that workers may bring a lawsuit for up to six months after they receive any paycheck that they allege is discriminatory.

” . . . While this bill bears her name, Lilly knows this story isn’t just about her,” Obama said. “It’s the story of women across this country still earning just 78 cents for every dollar men earn — women of color even less — which means that today, in the year 2009, countless women are still losing thousands of dollars in salary, income and retirement savings over the course of a lifetime.”..........

Obama Starts Reversing Bush Policies
Guantanamo Order Readied; Lobbying Rules Tightened

Washington Post Staff Writer
President Obama moved swiftly yesterday to begin rolling back eight years of his predecessor's policies, ordering tough new ethics rules and preparing to issue an order closing the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, which has been at the center of the debate over the treatment of U.S. prisoners in the battle against terrorism.

Acting to address several promises he made during his campaign, Obama met with top generals about speeding the withdrawal from Iraq and gathered his senior economic advisers as he continued to push for a massive spending bill to create jobs.

He also signed a series of executive orders and directives intended to slow the revolving door between government service and lobbying, and ordered his administration to share information more freely with the public............

what an exhausting day yesterday was

like a dope i didn't take yesterday off. i knew i could watch from my pc at work. i was flitting from site to site and the streaming vids just weren't doing it for me. way too choppy and they kept freezing. i decided to go to the cafeteria at about 11:00 to see if they had it on the flat screens distributed about. not only did they, they had it on GIANT movie screens (i didn't know they had the screens in there. i should have known because i've seen the projectors on the ceiling). there was only ONE problem - but it was a BIG one.

THEY HAD THE CHANNEL SET TO FAUX 'NEWS'. i couldn't believe my eyes and ears but yup - they did (i later found out another area of the building had msnbc on. DAY-UM i would have gone there).

i sat in that chair from 11 until president obama gave his speech. i cried the WHOLE time as well. it wasn't bad at 11. i was the only one in there. it was REALLY BAD at 12 when the cafeteria was full. a few very nice people who sat with me (strangers) provided me with napkins so i could wipe my face.

i just felt alive again. energized.
