Welcome back, Cromrades! We are currently experiencing some difficulty posting our episode in the normal way. But in the interim, here is our second episode of the Howardian Film Festival, which also doubles as our Cromtober 2024 episode.

Edit 11/9/24: Here's the episode.

One Things

Josh: Mörk Borg

Luke: Mustard!

Cromtober 2023 Episode 2: The Underwater World of H.P. Lovecraft

Welcome back, Boils and Ghouls! Your three-headed podcast hosting ogre has selected a couple of delightfully frightful tales for tonight's Cromtober recording! They are of the nautical horror bent, set in demon-haunted New England: Dagon, and The Shadow Over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft! We discuss all manner of horrific details regarding these two thematically linked stories beside a Cromtober fire on a lonely and darkening coastline.

Cromtober 2022 Episode 1: Get on the Ghost Train and Head to Willoughby

Howdy Cromrades! It's the most wonderful and spooktacular time of the year, around these parts we call it Cromtober. Our 2022 Halloween festivities are focused on spectral locomotives, you know,  ghost trains! Trains have long inspired tales of ghosts and haints and even sometimes serve as means of conveyance to get your soul down to hell.

For our first episode, we focus most of our discussion on the class Twilight Zone episode "A Stop at Willoughby" where our protagonist "Mr. Gart Williams, an ad agency exec, who in just a moment, will move into the Twilight Zone—in a desperate search for survival."

Beyond our stop in the Twilight Zone, we also discuss why trains are kind of scary and the different things they symbols in folklore and ghost stories. Last but not least, let's learn about President Abraham Lincoln's Ghost Train! Hope aboard, won't you

One things

Josh: Has been enjoying The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon

Jonathan: Has been dipping his toes into some true crime with the podcast Le Monstre

Luke: Loves books, especially the Valancourt Books edition of "In a Lonely Place" by Karl Edward Wagner

The History of Cromtober

Cromrades - we have sad news to share with you. There will be no Wine & Witches episode this year. The Wine & Witches crew did assemble and were excited to record for you, but our recorder malfunctioned. They discussed their favorite Halloween TV specials. It would have been good, and we're sad that it was lost. Another episode given up to the podcast gods, never to be heard by mortal ears. If you're bummed about the lack of Wine & Witches in your life this year, please let them know! We will pass the word along to them!

It is of small consolation, but here we have some ridiculous banter beside the fire. Cromtober is nearly history - and as we look further down the road, we see Karl Edward Wagner's creation Kane awaiting us!

Cromtober 2018 Part One: Howard and Poe

Welcome, Cromrades! It's our favorite time of the year, the season of Cromtober! This year, we focus on the witch in pulp stories and selected two stories that might not ordinarily be thought of as witch stories - "The Black Cat" by Edgar Allen Poe, and "Sea Curse" by Robert E. Howard.  The folkloric link between black cats and witches is well known. And "Sea Curse" features a character that strikes the figure of the crone-like witch, contrasted with many of Robert E. Howard's other presentations of witches.
What are your thoughts? Is "The Black Cat" a witch story per se? Does old Moll from "Sea Curse" strike you as a witch figure? Let us know!
One Things
Jon: Reddit Unsolved Mysteries
Josh: The history podcast Our Fake History, especially episode #37 featuring Robert Johnson and a certain crossroads transaction.
Luke: Joe Hill's novel NOS4A2, and Joe Hill in particular.
