The recent completion of Viking allies means the Welsh army is now complete. I thought therefore I'd assemble them together as a group and take a few pictures:
The entire army took just over three months and totals 505 figures excluding the 78 Vikings, comprised of 36 horses and 469 foot and medium and heavy cavalry:
The core of the base army are the warband figures but the South Welsh option allows these to be substituted in favour of superior bow, which is what first attracted me to the army:
They have actually had their first game against some Feudal English which ended up being quite a balanced affair with the Welsh prevailing. Unfortunately I again forgot to take any photos:

Next up however I am planning to complete the three English Civil War armies I have had on hold. I have essentially finished nearly all of the foot and artillery but still have twenty-five or so regiments of Royalist, Parliamentarian and Scottish Covenanter cavalry to complete. I'm hoping to get through them all before Christmas, by which time I'm sure I'll be keen to get stuck into some Vikings.

ReplyDeleteThanks Keith. Yes, mainly lancers for the Scots. I do wish I had taken a few photos but the guys in my ancients groups are never that keen to pause the action. They are definitely more 'in the moment' types.

ReplyDeleteI have to confess your armies for DBMM have piqued by interest in the rules. I'm familiar with DBA but never considered the step up. Any advice?
Thanks Richard. I fine DBMM the best set of rules I have played so far, but they can be difficult to master, partly because of the way they are written. In my case I am lucky in that the group I game with have years of experience so were able to fill in a lot of what I missed in my reading, so without that I think some decent on-line tutorials is the best way to go.
DeleteThe real strength of the rules is the army lists and it is almost as much fun putting together a list for a game as it is playing it. There are a few things which on occasion don't feel quite right, and Romans don't seem to have much of a chance against Gauls for example, but there is a lot to like about them.
An amazing total, they look fantastic on parade.

ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of them, aren't there? The Welsh superior bow is quite good value points wise, so it is possible to field quite a few.
