MARBIN - FERNWEH

  • Marbin: Fernweh
(2021, cd, USA, marbin / private release)
On Fernweh, Marbin takes on several (gypsy) jazz classics.
Beautiful.
And displaying incredible technical abilities.
It's jazz, with a Marbin touch.

Fernweh, a German word for wanderlust that means specifically to be homesick for a place you've never been, is the perfect name for Marbin's 12th album, which focuses exclusively on jazz standards. Because these songs were written so long ago, and their origins span several continents, each and every song connects you to a different place and time—most of which are not places or time periods any of us have actually experienced.

I'm glad I found a copy !!
Also out on LP, and on Bandcamp :

MARBIN - RADIO SHREDDIN' PARTY

  • marbin: radio shreddin' party
        (2024, 3cd, USA, private release)
Marbin's "Radio Shreddin' Party" 3 CD set presents three albums that had previously only been made available as digital downloads:
"Alabama Sock Party", "Shreddin' At Sweetwater", and "Radio School - Live At Heartwoord Soundstage".

It's a limited edition digipack release, of which I assume that it is aimed to be sold during concerts.

'Is it any good?', I hear you asking. Well, of course it is. It's Marbin.

MARBIN - DIRTY HORSE

  • marbin: dirty horse
(2021, cd, USA, private release / marbin music)
A recent order from Marbin included their "Dirty Horse" album.
Pulling out all the stops, this is, again, an excellent album by Danny MARkovitch (sax) and Dani RaBIN (guitar), with Jon Nadel on bass and Everette Benton on drums.

Sophisticated and unrestricted.
I didn't expect otherwise, but this is really good album.
Fans of progressive jazz rock must give this a listen.

Out on CD and available through Bandcamp.

MARBIN - FERNWEH

On their latest release, Marbin takes a parallel road, exploring jazz standards.

MARBIN - RUSSIAN DOLLS

  • marbin: russian dolls
        (2020, cd, usa, private release)

Marbin saxophone player Danny Markovitch is about to release "Russian Dolls".

Lyrical, melancholic at times, the album presents 7 beautiful pieces.
This is modern, progressive jazz with an oriental flavour.

"Russian Dolls" features Antonio Sanchez on drums and Dani Rabin on guitar and bass, but it's all about the saxophone: beautiful melodies, and fine improvisations.

The album will be out in November.
Keep an eye out for this one !

MARBIN - TEN YEARS IN THE SUN

Dani Rabin, Marbin guitar player, has released a solo album.

He adds :
The expression "ten years in the sun," as described in Hayao Miyazaki’s film The Wind Rises, encapsulates the notion that within every life there is an era of peak creative performance and opportunity. Dani Rabin tells us the story behind the album: “The Covid-19 pandemic and shutdown caught my band Marbin in the midst of an exciting swing. The band was a few days into a thirty-seven-day tour when we had to cancel all of our shows, turn back, and drive 3,000 miles back home to Chicago. I knew it was the right thing to do as I didn't want to put our fans and band members in danger, but I was disheartened nonetheless. When I was home I was trying to figure out a way to keep my creative momentum going when I stumbled across an old notebook filled with ideas and fragments of songs we never got to use and I immediately knew what I had to do. The acoustic guitar has a soothing kind of quality to it and it gives the listener a very intimate experience. The melodies and harmonies stand out without all the bells and whistles of a full band, which I do like, but can also be somewhat distracting from the real essence of the music at times.”
