RUSS STEDMAN UPDATE

Earlier this year, Russ Stedmann compiled twelve (!!) albums with previously unreleased material.
Last week, he added "Carpet Remants", the last scrape of the bottom of the outtake barrel, as he called it.

Actually, the album presents tracks that were recorded in 1986 and 1987.

TEN CENTER - WHY CAN'T I PLAY IT ?

This release had been on my list for quite a number of years. OK, so I wasn't able to locate an original copy of the cassette, but I did find the digital version and all of the info that I needed for the United Mutations Archives.

From 1995 and only five tracks, but Ten Center (featuring Russ Stedman) does cover Frank Zappa's 'Go Cry On Somebody Else's Shoulder' !!

TEN CENTER - SNAZZED OUTTA YER DRAWERS

Ten Center was Russ Stedman (guitar, vocals), Michael Myers (drums, vocals) and Aric Pringle (bass, vocals).
Uncompromising rock. Sounds great.
"Snazzed Outta yer Drawers" got released on cassette in 1995. It has been made available in a digital format very recently.

Russ Stedman adds:

Ten Center (1995-1996) – The first “real band” I was in. Played about 50% my originals and 50% covers so obscure that no one probably knew the difference. We played a ton of shows, but no one ever liked us or came to see us because we weren’t alt-country, which was the big trend in town at the time.

MICHAEL KENYON SEIZURE - PLANET OF THE STARS / PINK FLOYD TOUR BOOK

Russ Stedman's Michael Kenyon Seizure project released this Pink Floyd tribute in 1995.
Psychedelic stuff, including tapes being playing backwards...
Adding data to the United Mutations Archives while I'm enjoying this.

RUSS STEDMAN - ORCHESTRAL FAKES

"Orchestral Fakes" presents 11 sequencer pieces, composed by Russ Stedman.
Originally released in 1995, the album has been made available on Bandcamp a little while ago.

THE MICHAEL KENYON SEIZURE - S/T

The Michael Kenyon Seizure is non other than guitarist, composer and Do It Yourself artists Russ Stedman.
This 1993 cassette release might well have been the first release by The Michael Kenyon Seizure.

The K7 (cassette) has Russ playing guitar over various audio fragments. Mostly of people talking.
As the K7 cover suggests, a couple of these fragments are samples of Frank Zappa. One of those is FZ saying that there is no 'obscene' music. There's at least one musical snippet as well.

Very recently, this release has been made available in a digital format.
Check it out !

RUSS STEDMAN - PENALTY TRACKS

Last year, Russ Stedman started an Indiegogo campaign to get his "Grumpy Lazy" album released.
Supporters got "Penalty Tracks".
The album counts 9 tracks. 9 powerful guitar tracks.

Title number two is a fine rendition of Frank Zappa's 'Montana' with an excellent distorted guitar solo.
It sounds great !

RUSS STEDMAN - GRUMPY LAZY

With a title like "Grumpy Lazy", you just know that it's an album that you need to check out.

Russ Stedman's latest release "Grumpy Lazy" does not only show some great artwork, the music is pretty impressive as well. All original material, except for a REO Speedwagon cover, and Frank Zappa's 'Duodenum', you know, the Lumpy Gravy theme.
Great !!

Available through Bandcamp.

RUSS STEDMAN - ALERT BUT WITHOUT ACUTE DISTRESS

Guitar player and composer Russ Stedman released "Alert But Without Acute Distress" already a couple of years ago, but I only discovered it recently.

My search for artists that recorded or that are influenced by the music of Frank Zappa regularly generates some fine discoveries and Russ Stedman is a perfect example.
I first heard of Russ Stedman when I found out about the DIY scene that also included people like Eugene Chadbourne, Dino Dimuro and Rudy Schwartz. Home tapers. Artists that recorded and distributed their music by themselves. On cassettes. And later on CDR's.
I also learned that Russ had released the "Where's My Waitress" compilation / tribute to the music of Frank Zappa. Russ re-released the cassette as a CDR a couple of years after that.

Russ Stedman's music is unpredictable and he throws in a nice guitar solo from time to time. Two things that I appreciate in music.
If you're not familiar with Russ' music, "Alert But Without Acute Distress" is a nice place to start.
Original, Zappa-inspired compositions, a couple of nice coverversions, and a superb version of FZ's 'Penis Dimenstion'.

Love it.
Recommended listening.
