Fire Pit Breakfast
Yesterday before heading to destin I had to try making my first of many fire pit breakfast. It was great!! The exciting thing was going to the chicken coop and pushing Esther to the side and picking two warm eggs from the nest. The fire pit design is made so that there is a small cooking section for pretty much anything. It will be nice to make an official vegetable omelet when the garden gets into full production. I'm greatful that where I live they allow fire pits in the backyard. My wife is still not amused but it's my official man cave almost literally.

Moms Cheese Cake was delicious
When she comes for a visit I will have her use some organic eggs and we will try to make our own cream cheese. Im getting alot of cool ideas from fellow bloggers that I have to try. If this cheese cake turns out great with fresh ingredients I just might want to die after the first bite. Can't wait!

Making Flan
Well the veggies are growing and the Chickens are popping out eggs everyday; and my wife has decided that no egg will go to waste and last night she told me she would make flan. I personally never heard of it before, but there is nothing I wont I try. To my surprise the flan was delicious. The caramel sauce was a bit strong but the custard neutralized it and it was really refreshing and light. Best of all I the main ingredient eggs came from my backyard.
Ingredients: Egg, milk sugar, and vanilla extract

Eggs
One day I was having a conversation with a buddy who has seen his fare share of doom and destruction and we were talking about what would be valuable in a hypothetical post-apocolyptic world. Without breaking a beat he blurted out 'CHICKENS AND EGGS!" I looked at him a little weird at first and thought, Hmmmm, I see where your going with this, Because hypothetically speaking if we happen to be living in a post apocolyptic world money would have no value. However, Goods and Services would be sought after and Chickens and eggs would be more valuable than gold. Something to think about, but I would have to put my stock in guns and ammo before the chickens and eggs.

Raising Chickens the Urban way
First of all most cities will not allow residents to have chickens. Nevertheless, their is a quiet revolution of folk all over the US whos sole purpose is to Raise organic eggs and meat birds in their backyards. I think its a magnificent idea and as someone striving to be a self-sufficientist I see the power in raising chickens for eggs. I think when the shit hit the fan. Chickens and eggs will be more valuable than money. I have a converted dog house that I will use as my coop. I will raise brown egg layers this up coming year.
You can see my coop next to my hawk mews. Its not fancy but its functional. We will see how it works this up coming year.
The following clip is from someone that I personally think is growing a little bit more than eggs in their backyard. Im not mad at them. This women just seems a little to happy. But her work on raising chickens should be admired.
