Spring's come!

I've not got much to show on the allotment yet, as many of the plants to go out there are still in the greenhouse.  Runner, and French beans, Mangetout and podding peas, and the only recently sown courgettes ans achochas are all waiting for June.  It's never worth sowing or planting out too early here.

We have had a couple of walks recently and last night our little group from the Natural History Society visited a woodland.  I'll put a few pictures here.  It was gorgeous till the forecast rain arrived at which point it became too dark to take pictures.

 The colour of the bluebells never fails to excite me.  It's such a saturated blue and even in low light you can't help but be impressed by lakes of blue beneath the trees.

Just a little close-up of a clump.  You can see that they still have some way to go before being fully out.  I suspect in another week or so, the view at the top will be even better.

We found a clump or two of cowslips and another few clumps of primroses, although by the time we got there, we'd lost the light.  A few years ago there was a clump of the hybrid, the false oxlip, in the wood, but we haven't seen any since.

I took this just because I liked the contrast between the bluebells and the wild garlic, which also carpeted the wood.  I love the smell when they are inadvertently crushed under foot.  Made me want some supper!

There is a little coppice I pass on the way to work that they have recently cleared so the bluebells are much earlier than everywhere else.it just means we will be seeing them for longer.

I too love the colour of bluebells. There's just something about the colour of them and of the cowslips - maybe it's cos it says that summer's on its way?

Isn't it amazing what pretty plants you find while out walking. I love the carpets of bluebells at this time of the year.

I love the scent of a bluebell wood. Takes me back to childhood days going walking with my granddad

Gorgeous pictures, like you I love bluebells. They are just opening up here - a good 3/4 weeks later than usual. And the smell of wild garlic too :}

I've lived in South-East Australia since 1969 but was born in Tunbridge Wells in Kent and remember the bluebells (and white and pink ones),primroses etc.fondly. Also the smell of bracken and picking wild hazlenuts and blackberries. Do still miss them.
