P1040705

Colours don’t really show up to well and it still needs a trim, but hey I was chuffed I have sewn it and it worked .Oh yeah and I used pattern from EQ that’s why its orientation looks different to the one on Barbara ‘s Blog.

Civil war blocks

Barbara Brackmans Civil War Quilts block a week.

Finally I have done block 4, man that block nearly did my head in..I cannot do triangles –nope no siree just can’t do them proper…Seriously I sewed and unsewed that block so many times it ended up in the bin (thanks for that tip Lyn).

Tonight I started a fresh and still managed to flop it so I said to self “ok one more time and if it don’t work then there will be no block 4 for me), well I have made it and now it’s a smidge bigger then it should be-guess what whoopdeedo it’s done.

And when I took the photo I remembered I had not posted a picture of block 3 ..

P1040695

Block 3 Seven Sisters.

P1040696

Block 4 Texas Tears ..and yep nearly tears making it.

Love the story that Barbara has with this block.

Advent swap main gifts

Oops so slack of me here are some pics of what I sent to my swap partner Pat as the main gift and also what she sent me.

I wanted to make Pat something different , so the idea sprang to mind to make a block keeper –so I merely cut and sewed and this is what transformed.

P1040570

Block keeper I loved the final result.

P1040568

Inside the block keeper..a wee pocket for scissors and a place for needles.

P1040617

And this handsome reindeer (even if I do say so myself)..found this pattern in an old Homespun mag and knew straight away that I wanted to make it for Pat.

And my gift from Pat was gorgeous.

P1040607

Lovely wrapped with beautiful ribbon

P1040608

And inside hmmm looky..lovely bag(which I have used)-a pair of beautiful pink earrings (which I have worn) cutest bag thing to pop in your bag to hold your keys and yum yum .P1040609

And this fantastic Christmas stitchery hanging..with some levely placemats…

Wonderful indeed..

Unfortunately one of the parcels I have sent over seas ( for the SSCS) has not made it to it’s destination  ..so I will make up another gift and mail it off…

Retro Nine Patch

Well well well….2 me movies on television last night woohoo..oh boy but I stayed up way past my bedtime and am feeling slightly blah today.

But I sat and watched and stitched and yeah I finished block 1 of the Retro Nine Patch by  Lyn , I so enjoyed stitching in some bright colours.

P1040689

Yes it’s a tad different to Block 1 that Lyn has shown a picture of and that my friends is due to me kinda getting side tracked…

anyways I am happy with it and chuffed that I have it done,

Civil war quilt block 3 by Barbara  will have to wait for during the week-lost of lovely stars to stitch on this weeks one..and since I’m a flunk @ needle turn applique(even with needles that have 3 pointed sides-or something like that)..I will be blanket stitching my stars.

Civil War–block 2

Barbara had posted block 2 by the time we had got home last night…I was so tired but I selected my fabrics and then could not resist cutting them and then this morning after all housework done I sewed Block 2 –North Star.

P1040687

This is awesome to read  the true stories Barbara posts each week and then I usually am thinking about what I have read as I sew my block…

Cut that fabric

These words have haunted me for a couple years, since I decided that I liked Civil War prints and wanted some..it has taken me quite awhile to collect several different pieces (not easy to get up here)..I was lucky Miss Fairy in Adelaide sent me a few awhile back and I scored some in an op shop –bonus bigtime…

Anyways when I stumbled upon Barbara Brackmans Blog, I just new the time was right to start cutting into them fabrics. Have you seen her Civil War Quilts blog –how awesome to have a block to make an a historical story to go with each block..don’t know how far my fabric will stretch but I’m going to go with the flow..

P1040685

This is block 1 I am so happy with it..the darker fabric was a real score cost me a whole $1.50 for ½mt at one of the local Op shops..

I’m sure some of the fabric I use won’t be traditional Civil War Prints but if it blends in then it will be sewn.

Cheers for now Vickie

1-2-3 Tote Swap

This is a way delayed post due to camera card reader issues.

I did show a sneak peek way back here- http://vickiescrafting.blogspot.com/2010/10/and-some-sneak-peeks.html

I joined the tote swap hosted by Paula and my partner was Teri

this is the bag that I made for Teri..we had a choice of winter or Christmas theme for our tote ..Teri asked for Christmas theme and also told me her favourite colour was purple-so I was on a mission to find Christmas fabric with purple in it,and I did.

toteswap

This is the bag I made for Teri inside the bag was some sewing notions and some lip balm.

P1040610
