Fashion: Black Floral Dress, Booties, & Rose Lipsense

Happy middle of the week! I always love Wednesday's, what about you? Last night was Lincoln's first puppy training class and it was SO hilarious to see all the dogs trying the new exercises. Lincoln could barely focus because class was outside and he loves grass like something fierce...ha! Hopefully in 6 weeks we'll have a perfectly trained puppy on our hands ;)

Anyways, I'm super excited to show you a product that's semi-new to me. I've been using Lipsense for a few months now and decided not to show it off in a full post until I knew I really loved it. I don't like to show you things I don't actually use regularly or would buy again, so when I do share things, you can trust I really like it. Have you heard of Lipsense?! If you haven't, it's a lip color that stays on for 4-18 hours. Yes, it lasts up to 18 hours!!

Alright, here's the scoop. There are 3 steps in applying Lipsense. You'll need the Oops Remover, the actual color and the gloss that seals the color and provides moisturizer. Before you read on, just know these pictures are funny and it's okay to laugh at me. My husband was dying while we were taking them. When applying Lipsense, you can't let your two lips touch one another, or the color will peel off before applying the gloss. So that's why I'm keeping my lips so far apart from each other ;)

1. I always start by cleaning my lips with the remover to be sure there isn't anything left on them. You need clean, dry lips to apply.

2. Shake the bottle of color really well!

I just ordered Aussie Rose last week, so I was super excited to try it out yesterday! I have tried this color on before, because I bought it for my sister in law. It's the perfect shade of pink/red. It's really is a nice rose color!

3. After you shake the bottle, be sure to wipe the wand on the side of the bottle to get the excess off. You don't put this on like a normal lipgloss. You need to apply in thin, even coats of color.

4. You will apply 3 layers of color, putting each on in THIN coats. I try to swipe from left to right, not going over the color once it's applied. Until it's dry, you don't want to go back over with more color because it will ball up and come off. After coat one, let it dry for 30 seconds. Do coat two. Let it dry again for 30 seconds. Coat three (make sure you get the corners of the lips and your waterline!) then let it dry again. If your lips tingle a little, don't worry. It just means your lips are dry. After you start wearing Lipsense more, this will mostly stop!

4. The final step is applying the gloss. You can't wear lipsense without the gloss, because it's what seals it. If you want a matte look, you can apply the gloss, then let it wear off or blot it off. But you do need the gloss initially. It also provides great moisture, since when you first put the color on, you might feel like your lips are really dry. Don't be alarmed at that! Just apply the gloss and you'll be good.

I love the color so much! It's not too red and not too pink. It's sort of a nice coral rose color. And just so you know, it DOES in fact, last a really long time. I've never worn it for 18 hours, because I don't want to sleep in it. But I wear Lipsense anytime I'm teaching a workshop and it lasts all day, which is about 10-12 hours. It's so nice to not have to think about reapplying lipstick! Don't get me wrong, I still use other products on days where it doesn't matter (I still love my MAC lipsticks ;)) but also love Lipsense. Aussie Rose is my third color. I also have Bombshell (super light champagne color, apparently Jennifer Aniston wears this one all the time!) and Rose Ice (this one is not my favorite-- it's too frosty for me, but I like mixing it with other colors).

In keeping things transparent around here, my friend Marci sent me my first color to try out for free and I liked the product so much that I've since bought my next two colors. So I really do like the quality and the colors are so fun! I'd love to know if you have tried / liked Lipsense!

I didn't buy a ton of stuff at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (because hey, we're newlyweds on a budget!) so I tried to find a few staple pieces. I got a pair of jeans and two pairs of booties-- one for fall, which I'm wearing below, and a pair of waterproof booties for our snowy winter. The last thing I got was this fun black floral dress, because I thought it was great for fall and I could wear it in winter with tights or leggings and a pair of tall boots. It's also under $30, so it didn't break the bank! I used my "fall wardrobe" budget early since the sale is in summer, so I won't be buying much come fall time. Maybe a sweater or two, but that's it! I'm trying to keep things simple and planning on donating a bunch of clothes I don't wear anymore. Less is more.

Here's my new, cheap dress :)

My husband cracking jokes while he takes my pictures ;)

It's a really light weight material. I loved the billowy sleeves because they are airy, but not too large or bulky. At first I thought it'd be a little see-through, but I'm happy to report it's not at all. I even tested it in the sun!

Speaking of staple items, these earrings are one of those for me. I recently got them and I just love the shape, the size (not too big or heavy) and the gold color. They're under $50. Kendra Scott jewelry will always have my heart.

Cute zipper detail on the back of the booties...

These are my fall booties. I haven't bought new booties for two years, so I thought I could this year! I highly suggest sizing down 1/2 size!! I'm usually an 8 and so that's what I ordered, and as soon as they arrived, I quickly discovered I needed a 7.5. These are the 7.5 and they fit great. I would probably be able to wear a no-show little sock with them, too. If you're thinking of ordering them, I'd buy both sizes to try out, along with the little socks, and see what you think. Nordstrom has free returns, so it's no problem to send them back!

Another favorite detail of the dress is the top lace up. I don't like to wear too revealing of clothes, so I assure you this isn't a very deep v. It's just right for a little extra something.

Dress / Vince Camuto Booties (order 1/2 down) / Kendra Scott Earrings / Lipsense: Lips by Marci- join her Facebook page and then you can message her to get your discount!
In case you wanted to pick up a few fall staples, here are just a couple favorites that are still in stock (hopefully...they go out so quickly!)

And now the exciting part of the post! I'm giving away a lipsense starter kit, which includes the remover, gloss and a color of your choice on Instagram today! I'll be posting it around 12pm EST, so head over there to enter. ALSO! If you order lipsense from my friend Marci, mention me and you'll get 10% off + free shipping.
My posts are so long this week...I'm not sure if that's good or bad ;) Have a great day! Thanks for reading!

Summer Lovin' Essentials + Beach Towel Giveaway

Hi friends! I hope enjoyed your weekend! This weekend we had gray skies and lots of humidity, so we stayed inside mostly, playing with the puppy and then went to the mall + out to dinner on Saturday evening. It was enjoyable and relaxing! I also started watching Mad Men on Netflix. My husband has seen it all the way through, but I never had, so since I love the 50's, I thought I'd like it. So far, I really like the show but I want to whack the men!!! Not cool. I'm hoping there is some character growth ;)

ANYWAYS...

This week marks my 7th year of blogging-- holy cow! That time has flown by. If you had told me I'd STILL be blogging 7 years ago, I wouldn't have believed you. love, love, love this little blog because it means I get to take all of my passion God has given me for design, the home, people, style, entertaining and hosting, community and more, and bottle it up in little posts here for others to see and hopefully enjoy. If you're interested in starting a blog or have a small creative business where you think you should start a blog to support that business, I say go for it! That's what we teach at The Bloom Workshop, as I believe it's so vital to your business. I thought I'd link to a few posts over the years about blogging, incase you're interested in getting some tips:

But now for the really exciting part of the post, in order to celebrate this blog and say THANK YOU to you for reading, I'm hosting a new giveaway each day this week! I truly wouldn't have continued on if it weren't for my incredible readers. I've loved getting to know you through comments and emails over the years. Thank you for supporting me and this little blog of mine. It means the world! So these giveaways are for YOU :)

First up is one of my very favorite things -- well ALL of the things I'm giving away are my favorite things. But we're kicking off the week with a Beach Bum Towel Co. giveaway! These beach towels are made by one of my sweet friends, Erin. I just love her to pieces and used to work for her wedding planning company when I lived in San Francisco. She's SO creative and talented, so that creativity spilled right into developing her own towel design.

The Beach Bum Towels are incredibly soft, thick (a huge plus for me!), and long (a huge plus for my 6'3" husband!) and are really cute. The boho vibe is so fun for summer. A lucky winner will get to pick one beach bum towel (either mint or coral). You can enter on my Instagram today!

We took the mint one on our honeymoon in Maui...that's where our first ring shot of both of our rings below was taken :)

All this beach towel talk has me so thankful it's summer! As a born and raised California girl and now living in Michigan with frequent trips to the lake, this is the weather I live for. I rounded up some outdoor beach and patio finds + some cute suits and coverups on sale. Nearly everything here is on sale...hooray!
SHOP:

So today we're celebrating summer and cute towels and you for sticking with me through this blogging journey! Now head to my instagram to enter the Beach Bum Towel Co. Giveaway. It'll be up around 12pm EST.

Good luck + Happy Monday,

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access Favorites

It's finally here! The biggest and best sale (in my opinion!) of the year! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Early Access is open today. What's the hype about the sale, you might ask?! All the new must-haves for Fall are on major sale + some brands that never have sales are also on sale! It's big, trust me :) Early Access goes for one week, and then anybody can shop beginning next Friday on Public Access day, but Early Access Week usually wipes out a ton of the best pieces, so be sure to sign up for a Nordstrom Rewards card, debit or credit card (I have a debit card) to shop the sale early! You can do that here for instant access.

Since it's the first day of early access, I'm going to share a few of my favorite items. I've already got a bunch in my cart and can't wait to show you my Nordstrom-haul when they arrive!

First up is this ADORABLE cardigan that you can wear multiple ways. Perfect with jeans, a tee and these Converse on sale for $35, or a dress! It comes in lots of colors, perfect for the breezy fall days. I think I'm going with this oatmeal or gray color! Which one is your favorite?

Lightweight Rib Stitch Cardi -- $32 now, $50 after the sale. This sweater is going to go FAST!

So far I have two favorite tops from the sale (I'm doing more scouring for you and will report back with more faves soon!) The first is this off the shoulder plaid blouse. It's under $60 now, but will go back to $90 after the sale!

The next one is this lace top. No surprise here, as lace is one of my favorite materials! So feminine and sweet. You know I love a good white top, too. This neckline is perfection to me. With a pair of jeans (below!) and booties, I say this outfit is a date night or girls night out winner, especially at under $50!

If you're in need of jeans, let me introduce you to my FAVORITE brand of jeans ever. AG jeans are made from recycled material, which makes them SO soft. Jeans are one thing I think is important to invest in. I have a few pairs of AG jeans-- two that I've had for about 5 years-- still in perfect condition!! That's quality. Anyways, AG jeans never go on sale, so this is a treat! I'm definitely ordering this pair, which will transition really well into fall and winter with boots! This plaid button up would be perfect with the denim.

AG: The Legging Raw Hem Ankle Skinny Jeans -- $150 now, $225 after the sale. $75 off!!

Something else I'm really forward to adding to my fall wardrobe is another pair of booties. I'm thinking a low heeled pair. But I've also got my eye on these...possibly the most beautiful open toed booties I've ever seen:

Here are some other booties are on sale:

The last thing I want to share today is that my favorite jewelry designer, Kendra Scott, also has some pieces in the sale!!

Remember Nordstrom offers free shipping and free returns, so shopping online is a no brainer! I'm thankful for this, because we don't have a Nordstrom near us :( Ha!

Happy Shopping! What items have caught your eye?

Friday Finds: Little White Dress

Last summer when I was a bride-to-be, I couldn't get enough white dresses! I wore one to my bridal shower, bachelorette party, engagement pictures and rehearsal dinner. Hey, when you're a bride, I say wear alllll the white you can! This was my rehearsal dinner dress and thank God I had it with me on our wedding (I was planning to take it to Maui on our Honeymoon, so it was packed!) but my wedding dress was a little uncomfortable towards the end of the night, so I changed into this dress instead!

Anyways, I rounded up some adorable white dresses that have me wishing I could do the whole bride thing all over again! Of course if you're going on a vacation or have some summer girls getaways planned, a white dress is perfect for that occasion, too!

Off the shoulder, stripes, fitted at the waist, lined (major plus in my book!) and blue and white...what's not to love?!

The way the top ruffles is SO sweet and feminine. Truthfully, I feel a bit Southern in this dress and I absolutely love that :)

Friday Finds: Striped Tees, Sandals and Bras...Oh My!

Happy Friday! This week seemed to fly by for me, probably because I've been so busy with design clients, putting finishing touches on our workshop next week in Northern Michigan, AND because it's been the most perfect week weather-wise! Nothing but sun. This California girl is loving it.

Alright, on to some Friday Finds for you! Yesterday on Instagram Stories, I showed you a few new things I got in the mail this week, so I thought I'd link to them + show you more here.

It's no secret that I love stripes, so we'll kick off the post with my new favorite striped tee. Anything with a little extra detail, like the eyelet bottom of this one, always gets me!

Striped eyelet top (50% OFF!) paired with distressed shorts (under $45)
Note: I always size down in LOFT clothes. This is my phone case, in case you're interested!

The top is also really cute with white jeans, which I was surprised by! These are by far the best white jeans EVER. And at an incredible price of under $60. They are pretty stretchy, so I sized down 2 sizes. They also come in distressed, which are cute, too! The jeans are so comfortable and soft, I could sleep in them.

White Denim Jeans / Striped tee / Cut Out Sandals (a similarly cute pair here)
Note: I'm usually a 25-26 and I got size 24 in these jeans after trying my regular sizes on. The 24s were a perfect fit and don't stretch out too much after one wear.

Guys, these shoes are the best. I just got them from my favorite online boutique, The Mason Jar. Seriously the best resource for adorable florals and unique cuts on tops and dresses. Anyways, I got these sandals and I think I'll be living in them. They are so comfy. They're almost sold out, but they also have these which are the same heel height (2.5"), so I'm guessing they'll be just as comfortable!

Use code BLOOM15 for 15% discount :)

Next up is another striped tee, but this time it's peplum -- another one of my favorite fits! Look at the adorable exposed gold zipper!

Striped Peplum Top
Note: the top photographs more black and stark white, but it's definitely more of a black stripe on an off-white, not stark white. Also, order 2 sizes down. I'm in an XXS, which is insane to me, but that's how J.Crew works!

I got my jeans from here, but they're sold out, so I found a bunch of others at great prices:

Next is a white top. All these shirts are super easy to wear, t-shirt material. This one almost feels like a polo material. It's really nice! The ruffle detail is so sweet and instantly dresses it up! White shirts are my favorite because they go with anything (except maybe white jeans). I always find a new white shirt to add to my wardrobe every summer and this year, this is it! I also am obsessed with these shorts. As you may know, I actually don't love shorts in general, but these are loose enough and long enough to where I feel comfortable in them. They're a soft chambray/linen material and they're on mega sale!

White tee with ruffle bottom / Chambray Shorts (under $20!)
Note: go down 2 sizes. I'm actually going to return this XS for an XXS.

Okay, friends! Have you heard of Third Love? They are a bra and panty company that make incredible undergarments. I have seen them advertised on Facebook and Instagram before, so on Monday after another friend had posted about loving her new bra, I decided to give it a try. Here's how it works: you take a quiz on their site and they tell you what bra will be the best fit for you. You can choose to try it out by getting it shipped to your house and for the next 30 days, you get to wear it as much as you want and wash it, then you can decide to keep it (and pay for it then) OR send it back if you didn't love it. They donate any bras that are sent back. Cool or what?!

So I ordered my classic t-shirt bra in nude on Monday and it arrived on Wednesday! I couldn't believe it. So quick! I've been wearing it ever since and will absolutely be keeping it. Here's why: it's soft (I literally forget I'm wearing a bra!), it has coverage in ALL the right places, the straps are really pretty, it has just enough padding, and the best-- you can't see any lines of the bra from under your t-shirt. It's truly amazing! PLUS, they have 1/2 bra sizes, because did you know that almost everyone is in between sizes, which is why so many women struggle with finding the perfect size? (PS. I'm not working with this company ((aka this is not sponsored))...I'm just sharing my real experience with you :))

Click here to get $15 towards your next purchase with Third Love!

Now for a few other sales:

LOFT: 50% off all dresses, tees, tanks, & cropped pants. They have SO many cute things!

Anthropologie: Members Sale! 20% off everything + free shipping on orders over $150.

Nordstrom: my favorite picks under $60:

That's all! Have a blessed weekend! Back next week with a summer hair tutorial, a client project, and dresses for wedding season events (whether you're a bride or a guest!)
