One
of Duke Ellington's Last TV Appearances
In the spring of 1970, NYC's Joya Sherrill
became the first African/American female to host a kid's TV show. Until
now, no tapes of those shows were known to exist, but we uncovered two
examples - including an episode of 'Time For Joya' featuring Duke Ellington.

The
Rifleman
'The
Rifleman' was the story of loner Lucas McCain (former Brooklyn Dodger
Chuck Connors) and his son Mark (Johnny Crawford) who live on the outskirts
of North Fork, New Mexico. Lucas invented a new rapid-cocking rifle that
enabled him to fire at a furious pace, giving him the advantage of basically
having the world's first semiautomatic weapon.

Richard
Pryor Show
Was
Richard Pryor bitter about his television experience? No, not at all.
He had this to say: "One week of truth on TV could just straighten
out everything. One hundred and twenty-seven million people watch
television every night; that's why they use it to sell stuff. They've
misused it a long time so now it's just a business, that's all. They're
not going to write shows about how to revolutionize America. The top-rated
shows are for retarded people."

Outrageous

most hilarious moments you never got to see. WARNING: video clips contain

History of the Laugh Track
What would TV history
be without the laugh track? While much-maligned by television critics,
the laugh track is, in fact, any true TVParty-er's best friend. Over the
years, having watched rerun after rerun, we all have come to know and
love those nameless laughers whose voices we recognize, and who can always
be counted on to assure our amusement. Such classics as The
Beverly Hillbillies, The Munsters or even Bewitched wouldn't be nearly as fun - and indeed, would
be almost inconceivable - without the laugh track.

Heil Honey, I'm Home!
It's Heil Honey, I'm Home, the trials and domestic travails of Adolph Hitler and Eva Braun, a not-so-typical suburban couple. The program was presented as if it were an unearthed sitcom from the 1950s. In a nod to that classic sitcom cliche, the first storylines centered around Eva being unprepared for Hitler's important business associate (Neville Chamberlain) coming for dinner and the couple's new neighbors dropping in unexpectedly. The neighbors just happen to be Jewish. WATCH IT FOR YOURSELF AFTER THE JUMP!

Camp Runamuck
One of a handful of short lived mid-1960's sitcoms that are considered
classics - a kid favorite that failed to pull in enough adult viewers
to stay afloat. Camp Runamuck starred sitcom stalwarts Dave Ketchum, Arch Johnson, Leonard Stone,
and Dave Madden as camp counselors who find themselves besieged by the
boy campers they're in charge of and overwhelmed by the girl's camp (Camp
Divine) across the lake.

What Happened to What's Happening!!?
"Haywood was a really good kid and Ernest was an
excellent actor. Fred Berry was the one to look out for. He could be trouble.
He received many of the show's big laughs. Unfortunately, he later had
some personal problems that carried over onto the set. After
I had left the show, there was a big contract dispute and I was told that
Fred was the instigator behind the trouble that followed. He convinced
Ernest and Haywood to join him in a strike for more money. Eventually,
the producers simply had enough of the boys' antics and they closed the
series down."

1970s Phenomenon : The Gong Show
Chuck Barris
was responsible for some of the most popular programs of the sixties,
primetime and daytime hits like 'The Dating
Game' and 'The Newlywed Game'. These pseudo-game shows fed off
of an individual's willingness to do anything to be on television, 'The
Gong Show' would take that premise a step further. ABC
bought the show for nighttime syndication, to debut in the fall of 1976.

Las Vegas in 1977!
1977. It was the year Las Vegas lost its biggest draw, Elvis Presley. Elvis first attempted a Vegas foothold in the 1950s but it was a not successful, his hip-shaking rockabilly persona was considered a vulgar affront to the well-dressed, cool cat Rat Pack crowd. It was Frank, Dean, and Sammy that defined this desert oasis.

Sky King
"Out of the blue of the western sky comes... Sky King!" Nabisco's kid friendly cowboy in the air was popular for two decades on the weekends - and years before that on radio. Likable stars Kirby Grant and Gloria Winters were matched with believable scripts, stark desert scenery and exciting aerial shots.

that continues to resonate? TVparty looks in depth at how it all ended
on the anniversary of the show's cancellation.

1980's
PUNK ROCK
In the early-eighties, young people in Los Angeles were flocking to
makeshift clubs in droves to see new, up and coming bands. Live new
music, not DJs, was what they craved. These writings provide a sketchy
look at the underground club scene in Los Angeles during the time
that groups like X, Missing Persons, The Go-Go's, The Minutemen and
Wall of Voodoo entered the public consciousness.
