John Deere Sign on Reclaimed Wood

Hiya!

Please see yesterday's post if you haven't already!

Moving on to today...or as many people in the social media world refer to it - #tbt
I'm throwing it back to last month when I painted this AWESOME sign for my favorite youngest cousin (love you Greg!)...

John Deere Sign on Reclaimed Wood

He's been a John Deere fanatic since he was just a little thing. He could rattle off the names of about any tractor you showed him! It was hilarious! So, I was super excited when my aunt commissioned a sign for his birthday!

To make it, my husband built the pallet out of reclaimed cedar fencing and I printed off a large engineer print at Staples for a template.

Did you know you can get color ones now!? They are a bit more money, but the potential is endless!

Here's a link... Staples Color Engineer prints! (this is not sponsored or an affiliate link, just spreading the news!)

LIFE. CHANGING!

My original design, included the extra wording, but it became pretty clear very quickly that I liked the sign best with just the vintage John Deere logo!

My own little deer lover loved it too...

"DEER! DEER! DEER!" he says!

I lightly sanded and spray sealed the final sign. I love it so much!

A Special Sign for a Special Girl

As many of you know, my older two children passed away from Mitochondrial disease, because of this I have become part of a very large "community" of families who have given me much love, support and knowledge during our journey.

One of these families contacted me about doing a custom sign for her daughter Isabella's room. It was inspired by a very unique and totally amazing charity they are starting, called Isabella's Aviary

2 Month Photos- a little bit {vintage}

I recently did a photo session with our two month old...I don't have a ton of experience with studio type setups and backgrounds, but I thought I would show you what I did to fake it a bit!
I started by picking my props...I'm realizing I am not a huge fan of lots of "extras" in the photos...I just want to capture my kiddo's personalities in a interesting way. In this case I embraced my obsession with everything vintage! I chose a chalkboard...I know, maybe chalkboards are becoming a bit over done? I don't think quite yet, and who cares, if I like it, that's all that matters, right? You may remember this chalkboard from one of my Yard Sale Posts? It cost me a whopping $1! I have had it hanging in my entry way, not getting much attention,  for a couple months now. The cool thing it is two sided, one side has the alphabet and the other is just a plain chalkboard.

I decided to free hand my design right onto the board- I wasn't going for perfection- I happen to think the imperfections are what make chalkboards so whimsical.

The next prop I chose was this incredible vintage blanket that my husband's grandma made for him when he was a baby( ...using the word vintage makes me feel old! ) Don't you think the chevron/wave pattern is amazing! I found this little gem in my mother-in-laws closet and the second I saw it I knew it would fit right in with what I have planned for the nursery!

Then I set up a photo area...I used our toy box with a blanket draped over it as the background. Its not the ideal set up, but I used what I had...which means if I can do it so can YOU!! The biggest issue I had was being able to get far enough away to get everything in the photo, this took playing with different lenses( which I won't even try to explain because I barely know anything about them). Here is what I ended up with!!

Not bad for an impromptu -oh, no! I better take some photos because this kid is already 2 months old!!!- photo session!

Haha...Elle was mommy's little assistant- she was very concerned that he had a wet diaper- we can't have that in pictures now can we!

Here is a comparison of his newborn/2 month pics!

First Craft Show

What a whirlwind of a week!

Not only was it my first craft show, but we welcomed our new baby into the world (...more on that here/link to come...)!

Because I was recovering from his birth I didn't actually get to attend my craft show..I am very sad about this, but VERY thankful my sister had already planned on being here and was able to man the booth for the both of us.  From what I hear the show went really well, we all sold some of what we made and are totally excited for the next show coming up in Dec!

I thought I would give you a peek at what I featured at the show! Also stay tuned for the launching of mine and my sister's Etsy shop in the next couple days!

Wood Growth Charts

All the signs were made from reclaimed wood that we salvaged from an old Victorian house in Sandpoint and from out at the farm( can you believe some of this was in a burn pile??? Oh no they didn't!)

I must give mad props to my hubs for finishing the signs- clear coats and hanging hardware- all in time for the show! Love him!!!

Beautiful {sign} + Free Printable!

I wanted to give you all a sneak peek at my daughters {almost} finished room...it is actually all done except for curtains...which is done, right? I don't know when those will get done since we are CRAZY busy right now and because I am to impatient to wait for them to get done, I will be posting a full room tour later this week. But as a teaser I thought I would share a little project that you can easily do yourself- I'm including a PDF template so you can print it at home...or you can paint it like I did!

Here it is!!

"you are all together beautiful my love, there is no flaw in you"

Farm Eggs

I painted up this little sign yesterday.

Its for out at the farm and I love it!

Lets just say that before I got my hands on this sign it wasn't exactly, well...it wasn't really very attractive. My bro-in-law had quickly painted it since I was busy at the hospital and I always teased him that it looked like he had written it in his own blood! Pretty terrible!
When I went to the farm a couple days ago the sign was laying on the ground. I figured it was as good a time as any to grab it and give it a makeover.
Because we need it back up pretty quick I totally forgot to get any of the before pictures..sad day!

This will be used with the future farm sign...currently in the planning phase! Stay tuned! Its going to be my biggest yet!!
