Happy Halloween 2013 From The Batcave Toy Room

This weeks League of Shadows assignment...Whoops! I mean this weeks League of Extraordinary Bloggers assignment asked us to do a photo story on our hometowns goings on for Halloween.

So, here's a look at what's happening in Fabulous Las Vegas.

It's cool that several of my neighbors go all out for All Hallows Eve, but for us we're a little bit more simple.

I am looking forward to the haunts going on the night of 10/31. I know my daughter is really going to crazy love it. Last year she was just getting the idea of it all and didn't want to stop. This year we're probably going to have a long night.

You can see my daughter hiding behind the pumpkin she's about to carve. We had a blast.

Here we're waiting in line to take on the giant 50 foot slide at one of our local pumpkin patches. The Vegas patches are in dirt lots. I long to visit a real down home feeling pumpkin patch one day.

My biggest thrill this year however is going to be my daughter dressing as Batgirl. Although, she insists she's Batman despite my insistence that Batman does not wear a tutu.

I wish I had shots from the Zombie walks and runs or even any Cosplayers dream the Fetish and Fantasy Ball, but I didn't make it out to any of those events this year. Anyway, on behalf of the Batcave Toy Room have a safe and insane Halloween.

A Side Of The Batcave Toy Room Not Normally Seen

The floor of the Toy Room is finally bare. Photo: Batcave Toy Room
Most photos taken in the Batcave Toy Room are from a view that is seen when you first walk into it, but this time we get to see what's around the corner.

Really it's not much. Literally. The space on floor was a mess 29 days ago and is now reduced to a couple of boxes that are filled with items I am planning on selling.

31 Days to a Better Toy Collection Challenge: Remembering My Toy Collection - Day 7

Let's get re-acquainted, Shall we?

It's hard to believe that the Batcave Toy Room will be four years old this Summer. Time flies when you're having fun. It has been an awesome ride and I can't believe how many great toy collectors I have met over the years. It has definitely been a learning experience.

31 Days to a Better Toy Collection Challenge: There's a Mess in the Toy Room - Day 2

There's a Messerschmitt in the Toy Room again.

The events over the past few months have required us to move everything from business equipment to I don't even know what into the Batcave Toy Room temporarily. My Mom has had to move in with us and one of our guest rooms, which was doubling for a storage room, had to be converted back to a guest room only.

31 Days to a Better Toy Collection Challenge: Let the Toy Collection Clean Up Begin - Day 1

A better toy collection, a better toy blog, a better Batcave Toy Room.

I've been reflecting a lot lately and doing a lot of goal setting. Goals always have worked wonders for me simply because they keep me focused and by staying focused I get things done.

March/April 2013 State of the Site: Vacation All I Really Wanted

The time has come to write.

I feel this on an almost organic level. Normally, I am sitting with my laptop in my family room or in my office with my book cases full books on toy collecting to the right of me and curio cabinets filled with my Star Wars Micro Collection behind me, but this time I am writing the original draft of this post on a legal sized pad of paper listening to thunderous waves crashing on the beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Finally, A Toy Display I Can Live With

I get lots of requests to see full shots of The Batcave Toy Room and I've held back on it because I've never liked the way my toys and collectibles were displayed. However, lately I have had lots of inspiration and after getting tips from collectors like Brian Adams from Cool and Collected, I have finally been able to arrange my toy collection in a fashion I am happy with.

My Toy Collecting Origins

I've been collecting toys for as long as I can remember. My earliest memories of toys were Gabriel's Lone Ranger and Tonto, Hasbro's G.I. Joe (back when he was just a soldier, not an entire team), and Mego's World's Greatest Super Heroes. Most people say, " You didn't collect toys, you just had toys, just like every other child." But for me, it was different.

There's A Messerschmitt In The Toy Room

Here's some shots of my toys from The Batcave Toy Room, which for me has just been a clustered mess. My goal was to find away to display all of my collectibles, but there was just not enough room and it had become a jumbled mess.

A Toy Hunting We May Go

It's been a hard days night and I've been working like a dog. So, I am taking a moment to be one with the force and take a break. I have been  trying to get The Batcave Toy Room in shape for a quite a while now and just have not been happy about it. I attempted to fit the majority of my toy collection into one room and it always ends up looking like a cluttered mess. So, I've decided to follow the lead of toy collectors like Ron R. and Brian Adams and rotate displaying my toys and collectibles.

You've Never Heard Of The Batcave Toy Room?

About The Batcave Toy Room

Welcome to BatcaveToyRoom.com - a blog that helps collectors expand, restore, and protect their modern and vintage toys.

My name is John Sholtz and I'm an entrepreneur by day and a toy, comic book, and pop culture collector by night. Heck, who am I kidding. I obsess about those things all day long, not just at night.

From Hobby to Obbsession

I guess it has always been more of a obsession than a hobby. As far back as I can remember I have loved toys. From my Hasbro G.I Joe to my Gabriel Lone Ranger to my Kenner Six Million Dollar Man and finally my obsession with Mego's World Greatest Super Heroes and Kenner's Star Wars toys.

Why Batcave Toy Room?

This site is dedicated to collecting vintage and modern Geek Pop Culture and the movies and television series that inspire them. This site is also intended as a photo reference guide to collectors, for them to share their own experiences, and promote the toy collecting medium.

I started it in July 2009 mainly because I wanted to showcase my toy collection. Since then I've added over 500 articles, tips, tutorials, and photos to my archives here.

Since then I've also met an awesome community of toy bloggers who come together to collaborate, help each other expand their collections, and grow the toy collecting community. I have also become a member of The Dork Horde - a group of collectors who loves to talk about toys. If you would like more information on The Dork Horde go HERE.

Buy my Book

Just kidding. No book yet, but I do one day hope to publish a book of photgraphs of my collection through creative photographs and a collection of essays from myself and other toy collectors that discusses their obession with toys and collectibles.

I hope you enjoy reading The Batcave Toy Room.

I've Created a Monster

I've been diligently working on reorganizing The Batcave Toy Room and I am just about half way done. I am intending to give a big push over the next few days and wrap things up. It's been great seeing toys that have been sentenced to their plastic storage bins and finding a place for them and this has been the biggest challenge. Finding a place for all my toys is like putting together a giant puzzle. Part of my problem is space because I want everything to be visible and I am beginning to think that I may have to double up with some items, which will obscure the full view other toys on display. This will probably be alleviated as I continue to shuffle items around and finish the toy room, but we will see as things move along. Don't worry though, I intend to do post on every single toy in the room. Play with you all again soon.

I'll Take What's Behind Curtain #1, John

I've been working away on the reorganization of The Batcave Toy Room. In doing that, I've been pulling all my toys out of their storage bins and diligently finding a place for everything. However, I know once everything is out, every square inch of the toy room is going to be used, which means, where are any new acquisitions going? I will cross that bridge when I get to it, but once everything is in its place, I will be doing things differently.

First off, I will be finishing all of my restoration projects. Secondly, I will be looking to fill the gaps in my Star Wars, Mego World's Greatest Super Heroes, and Super Powers Collection. Brian from Cool and Collected posted a heads up on an auction at Hake's for an awesome carded Super Powers Collection action figures up for bid. I might seriously need to give that one a shot. Thirdly, I will on the look out for beloved toys from my childhood i.e. Kenner Six Million Dollar Man, multiple Remco Batman items, etc., that are no longer in my collection, but need to be back in it. Of course, I will post my findings, challenges, and success with everyone.

I am expecting to be back on schedule real soon. I am looking forward to getting back in action. Thanks for sticking around.

Bless My Dust Pan...The Batcave Toy Room is Naked

Well gang I am officially a Daddy again. Not that I stopped being a Daddy, but now I am a Daddy of two fantastic little girls. My fellow toy blogger Eric, AKA BubbaShelby of Toyriffic, reminded me not too long ago to get as much sleep as I can and boy he wasn't kidding. Actually, it's really not that bad. My youngest is only getting up once a night for a bottle. So, it's a piece of cake.

In preparation for the new arrival, we did a lot of re-organizing and cleaning up at our home and doing the same for The Batcave Toy Room has been no different. I never seem to be satisfied with my room full of toys and always find myself frustrated with the layout. So, I decided to start at square one during my clean up and I think I finally have it the way I want it.

Readers always ask to see more of the toy room itself, but I never reveal much of it. Mainly because it constantly evolving, but I kind of like keeping it shrouded in mystery much like the Dark Knight's Batcave itself. However, my schedule is beginning to get back to normal and I have been attempting to put a post up now and then and check out what my fellow bloggers are up to lately. I hope to back up to speed by the end of the month with pics of the Batcave Toy Room, a darn video post already, and other fun stuff. See you again soon.
