Inspiration is everywhere and if you have a creative mind, you can spot inspiration in just about everything that crosses your path (or at least I do!). For me, it can be a pile of autumn leaves against bright green grass, an old worn out building on a street corner, an amazing sunset...and the list goes on. I came across this beautiful flower arrangement on Pinterest and immediately thought it would make an amazing color palette. So I set out to find interiors that would reflect the beautiful range of colors if these flowers were transformed into a space. The style that seems to fit this palette best is a mix of bohemian chic and eclectic modern. I'd love to work with this design scheme on a future project! Where do you find your color inspiration?

Belle Maison Archives :: Color 101 - Blue Interiors
I'm away on business this week and thought it would be fun to re-post some of my reader's favorite posts from the past! Reaching back into the archives of 2010, this was a popular post on the color blue, which is still a favorite color of many today. Enjoy!
Different colors, when used in interior design, can have effects on us psychologically, sometimes in ways we're not aware of. Here are some interesting facts about the color blue and the different ways it can effect us, depending on the shade of blue:

How do you feel about the color blue? Do you prefer wearing the color rather than using it in your home? What's your favorite shade of blue? (that is, if you like the color at all)!
Different colors, when used in interior design, can have effects on us psychologically, sometimes in ways we're not aware of. Here are some interesting facts about the color blue and the different ways it can effect us, depending on the shade of blue:
- Blue is the overwhelming "favorite color."
- Blue is seen as trustworthy, dependable and committed. The color of sky and the ocean, blue is perceived as a constant in our lives.
- As the collective color of the spirit, it invokes rest and can cause the body to produce chemicals that are calming; however not all blues are serene and sedate. Electric or brilliant blues become dynamic and dramatic, an engaging color that expresses exhilaration.
- Some shades or the overuse of blue may come across as cold or uncaring. Blue is the least "gender specific" color, having equal appeal to both men and women.
- How the color blue affects us physically and mentally: Calming and sedate; Cooling; Aids intuition.
- Studies show weightlifters are able to handle heavier weights in blue gyms.

Color Palette Inspiration :: Teal & Rust
Hello,
Belle Maison Readers! This is Jessica from Color the Burbs, and I'm excited to share with you some inspiration based on the teals
and autumnal rusts that I've seen trending lately {the same shown in the pretty skirts and tops found by B and in Jeanne Chung's Moroccan-inspired room}.
Teal is a calming color that encourages balance and creates a sense of ease and harmony in a room. It is a tertiary color composed of blue {a primary color} and green {a secondary color}, and as such is often associated with oceans and tropical locales. However, teal can also produce a refined and classic look in a room when paired with rusts - the deep red-ish hues that remind me of beautifully old decaying metals, rustic bricks and fall leaves.

You will notice that teal decor is often laced with whites and creams, which complement the boldness of the color. White decorative items such as trim, drapery, shelving and furniture similarly tone down teal-painted walls. An important observation to note when decorating with teal: do not be afraid to use bold prints - teal will absorb and blend in with even the most distracting of patterns.

As I mentioned, such colors are reminiscent to me of autumn. Can
you believe that fall is almost upon us? Though I'm not ready to
give up the flip flops and bikinis of summer just yet, the following outfits do make me at least a little excited that layering will soon again be upon us:

Color Love :: Mint Green
Lately I've been loving the color mint green and am noticing it everywhere. This retro color has made a comeback in a fresh and modern way. The great thing about mint green is that it pairs nicely with just about any color: yellow, fuchsia, orange, blue, green, red...and it also looks gorgeous accented with metallic gold, brass, pewter or silver. It can be used for large scale projects like kitchen cabinets or bedroom walls, or it can be used as more of an accent with furniture and accessories - either way, it looks fabulous. Mint green ranges from a very pale / pastel green to a richer blue / green. This versatile color is soothing, refreshing and just plain beautiful! How do you feel about mint green? (P.S. - the winner of last weeks OKL gift card is announced at the end of this post!)

Summer Color Love :: Lemon Yellow
Lately I've really been loving the color yellow. The bright, zesty and sunny hue just makes me happy and puts me in the mood for summer. It makes me crave ice cold lemonade and lemon meringue pie. It also makes me want to add some pops of yellow in my apartment to liven up my decor. Yellow is definitely a color where a little goes a long way - sometimes just a small accent, like a pillow or lamp, can be just enough to energize a space. How would you incorporate yellow into your decor? I've rounded up some fantastic examples of successful ways this color can be used, along with some of my favorite product picks for summer.
