An Award, Oh my...

I recently received my beary, I'm so excited, first blog award from Mack and Sally Ann. I most graciously thank them. I can hardly bearlieve it I have only been blogging since April, an award, really? Are you sure? Must have been that ice cream recipe, you can buy anything with ice cream ... just kidding. It really is a lovely award!The translation of the award:

Roman Shade Update
If you recall a while back I told you mom was making a roman shade for our family room window. She finished the shade back then, but this past week she finally made the valance and I supervised the installation.
Dad had finished installing the mounting board for the valance. Mom made the valance in three pieces so with the shade raised the valance won't hang funny. Two of the piece Velcro to the board and wrap the corners. The main piece of the valance mounts to Velcro on top of the board. Note that I have different clothes on in this next photo. Mom made me get ready for our trip into Chicago. Sorry about the brightness coming from the window. More about the Chicago in the future. Anyways this is the completed shade and valance. You can learn how to make your own roman shade here. Terrell writes wonderful complete instructions, and sells any of the hardware supplies you may need to make your shade successfully. I think mom did a great job, considering the shade is 61.25" wide. She was very pleased with Terrell's instructions. She might just have to make some more shades, perhaps for the bedroom.

I have to get off here now because mom needs to get busy with her sewing. At some point in the future I will share more about her sewing projects.

I don't usually play games...

My friend Woodstock tagged me in a game of tag. I don't usually play games like this, but I will try. I can't promise that I will have an answer for every question, but we'll see how it goes.

1. Who is the Hottest Movie Star?
Lucky for me I know two hot stars bearsonally but Woodstock already said Bob T. Bear (esq.). So I'm going to say Jed Bramwell he is a great actor bear. He's in the middle of making a new movie right now. Jed has some other movies on YouTube here.

Good things come from the freezer...recipes

Mom has been telling me that making ice cream is not just for the summertime. When she was a little girl, my grandpa used to go out in the wintertime and knock down the icicles from the gutters and downspouts. Some winters he'd knock enough icicles down to make ice cream without having to use any ice from the freezer or store. My grandma would mix the ice cream mixture, pour it into the shiny metal canister, set the wood paddled dasher in place and put the lid on. Grandpa would take it to the basement, set it in the green wooden White Mountain hand crank ice cream freezer. Packed broken icicles and rock salt around the canister. Then he'd begin to crank. He actually would let her brothers turn it to start out, then as it got harder to turn or the boys got pooped. He'd take over and finish turning it. When it was turned he'd carry the canister upstairs; open it up and lift the dasher, gently cleaning off the ice cream as he pulled it out, but always leaving some for the tasters. Mom and her brothers were always poised and waiting with a spoon in hand to attack the dasher. They had to hurry

Sleep walkers and air shows...

It was Sunday late afternoon, and I was about to settle down for a nap, when an unseasonal visitor walked into the room.
This is Snowbeary, he was sleep walking. He is one of the Christmas bears in our hug. He was hibearnating in the deep recesses of the linen closet.

It seems my dad was in there getting a light bulb. He obviously made too much noise and then left the door open. Snowbeary doesn't wake-up till the first snow flys.

Problems with flys and flies...

Hi everyone, Scruffy here. Yes, I'm still visiting my brother Buttons and the bears of the burbs. That's what I call them, now that I've become a city bear. Since I'm here, and I don't know for sure how long. I thought I'd take advantage of the opportunity and post something on Buttons blog.

When I was to move to Chicago, I tried to switch identities and places with another bear named Lucky. In the switcheroo caper I traded clothes with him. This sort of backfired on me, because he wouldn't give me back my clothes. So I asked mom if she'd make me a new pair of jeans. This time blue jeans, and she also made me a pair of boxers.

Bears, sailors and stow-aways...

Scruffy has been visiting us while Brother T is on a business trip to California. You might say that Scruff has been on a business trip of his own. He's been conducting a little business of his own with mom. But more on that in a future post.

Scruffy and I spent some time visiting with the Tricia Jean and Jeremy Sailor; another bear that lives at Lake Cedar Chest. During our visit I asked Tricia if she would share with you the story of why she wears a sailor dress. She graciously agreed. I had to apologize because I was unable to bring along her favorite treat of donut holes. She was a little disappointed but agreed to tell her story of why she wears a sailor dress. She said that she and Jeremy had been planning to sit and swap tales of the sea today anyway, as they frequently do.

Tricia Jean:
Well when I was a young bear, living in San Diego California, our people dad was serving in the US Navy. He was stationed on a submarine. He and mom had been married for a couple of months when he had to go out for a short cruise. He was to be gone for a week, so mom decided to fly up to San Francisco to her see her grandparents while dad was gone.

The night before they were to leave mom was packing her suitcase and dad his duffel bag. Being a young and curious bear, I wanted to go with dad to see what the navy was all about. I snuk into his duffel bag.
